I think it'd be extremely short sighted to say Universal is running out of IPs for HHN. They will always have a back catalog of more niche horror titles that can fulfill the 'cult' spaces, there will always be new deals that can be worked out with studio partners, there will always be new horror films and series coming out that they will want at the event for synergy reasons, so on and so forth.

One of the biggest trends of recent HHN history has been how much Universal has wanted to stretch the means of IP in an effort to not only reinvent what a haunted attraction can consist of but to, obviously, expand the demographics the event attracts. Working with properties like The Weeknd, WWE, Stranger Things, Five Nights at Freddy's, Fallout, etc. have proven they have every intention of making the event bigger and bigger as much as they can and reaching any and all horror adjacent avenues of potential newcomers. And I think that's a good thing!

i think there's a lot of opportunity to expand into more niche horror. for marketing purposes , idk if that work. but i mean they've done random stuff like dusk til dawn so anything's possible. i keep holding out hope there will be an a24 haunted house. i do think things like pearl and midsommar might be hard to pull off as they're mostly during the day but.. movies like talk to me, X, the witch, hereditary could all be pretty neat. wishful thinking but more horror games - phasmaphobia, dbd , bioshock , dead space are ips i hope to see someday.

Agreed - there will always be IPs for HHN. And I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing when there's repeats either, as long as they're spaced out a bit.

But there are new movies coming out every year - I mentioned it a few pages back, but I can see Sinners becoming the next "white whale/headliner" IP for the future.

there will always be ups for hhn. but not always good ones lol. and there's still a lot of white whales that escaped the grasp of hhn...
there's so many movies that still need a house, so many.

My initial thought is that an A24 house would be such an unwise move on a foundational basis but on second thought it would be really fun to see if the creative team could turn a film that really works due to its deep foreboding and grisly atmosphere rather than outright jump scares or scary images. Not sure if it'd work in an HHN environment but it would be an interesting experiment!

It was my least favorite of the trilogy as a movie, but I think MaXXXine could actually work really well in the haunted house format. There's enough gore/splatter beats to keep up the rhythm, and some great settings to go through like the video store and the cult compound (bonus points for taking place partially on the Universal backlot and the Psycho house).

Midsommar is the other one that feels like it has the pop culture footprint and shorthand iconography to work, but I think Blood Moon was already basically the HHN team's take on it without having to contend with the whole "set 100% in broad daylight" issue.

I would kill to see a 'Best of Maxine Minx' house with a few X scenes as well as the best bits of MaXXXine. Pump that right into my veins, please.

As much as I'd love to see more video game IP worked into the event, I think the only hope of it is that the IPs are successful in other mediums, ala TLOU and Fallout.

Of course, there's a Bioshock movie/series in the works, as well as Dead by Daylight and Phasmophobia movies. So there's a chance!

Bioshock is one of my favorite games, and I had no idea a movie was in the works. That’s awesome. I did know about Phasmophobia, but have no idea how that will translate to a film. I’m not sure how either would translate to a house, personally; although a Bioshock house could be visually stunning.

That's a tightrope. Crimson Peak at Universal Studios Hollywood tried to be a vibes based house and didn't really work well. Those houses can work, but they are hit or miss.

Not saying that I don't want to see it attempted, but there's disadvantages to portraying stories where largely nothing happening throughout the runtime of the movie.

I hope so. A Vamp decade zone is almost like a I.P. At this point.

What if it’s not a vamp zone? And a Pumpkin Lord Easter egg will be in there. Because it takes place on Halloween. I mean vampires will be wearing costumes, and I’m assuming Pumpkins will be there including Lil boo. Pumpkin Lord is the God of Halloween so maybe it connects to his worshipers his cult.

I'd be completely fine with a semi-annual Vamp zone, lol.

We've still got the 20s, 30s, 40s, 70s, 90s and early 00s to do!

I'm a HUGE fan of Midsommar. One of the best horror releases in the last decade. But I think it would make a terrible HHN house.
You already mentioned that it's almost 100% bright daylight. But there are also very few kills, and most happen off screen or...aren't actual kills...If you know what I mean?

I'd imagine so

As far as the future of IPs again - I'd be curious to see if they would ever attempt an A24 movie. But even if not, there is plenty for them to continue to work with. I wonder if we may see more "IP originals" in the future, like Chucky: Ultimate Kill Count and possibly the Jason house this year.
