What about the Foo fighters Studio 666 movie coming out? The trailer looks cool and I could see that maybe being a controversial house?

Has to be popular with the general public. This is something only Foo Fighters fans or people who pay attention to music news know about.

I’m pretty sure “Casper” was the code name for Hill House.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the "divisive" IP is Demon Slayer. Demon Slayer is an IP that is horror adjacent, one that has amassed a pretty large fanbase, and one that can garner both positive and negative reactions from both sides of the fandom. You'll have die-hard weebs and fans on one end of the spectrum raving about the house and how hyped they are to see it, and you'll have another end of the spectrum on the argument of how family-friendly IP doesn't belong at an event like HHN.

It would be darkly comical - and unfortunate for fans of the Mummy ride like myself - if the Mummy refurbishment was more extensive than many expect to the point of narrative change and then HHN developed a "Revenge of The Mummy" house. That would be a wild meta twist.

Having just gotten into Demon Slayer, "family-friendly" is not a term I'd use for it. The main cast has to go highlander in order to kill any demons and it doesn't skimp on the blood. Also, the movie was Rated R over here.

Ok... making my pitch for the "divisive" IP that's big enough to headline.

My call is Goosebumps. 90's nostalgia is starting to creep in. Goosebumps was a LOT of millennial era horror fans first taste of more serious horror, while remaining kid friendly. Their is great imagery that could come into play, including the book cover art. It's controversial obviously because it's a series that is associated with "children", and hard-core horror fans will be quick to dismiss it.

Regarding the recently announced Disney series... Disney is the just distributing network, Sony owns the rights to the series.

Wouldn't Goosebumps lie in the Halloween issue? As in, Halloween and multiple films of it, lying under Miramax (but in this case, with Disney).

That’s probably accurate. It aligns with the “Everything is something in a kitchen” motif they went with.

Ummm no? Why would it? The rights for Goosebumps books are help by Scholastic... their own film and television division handles production of all current films and shows alongside Sony. That includes the original series. Disney has never had any rights to the series. Even the upcoming series, Disney is simply acting as a distributor.

And for even more clarification, the new series on Disney+ that was just announced was actually announced this time last year by Scholastic and Sony. It was only just reannounced after Disney+ was chosen as distributor. It is completely feasible for Universal Creative (a theme park division) to get the rights for an HHN event before it was known where the new series was landing... just food for thought.

Universal is not gonna bring Goosebumps to the event because of Disney. Disney may not own the rights to Goosebumps, but they have ties to it. Universal is not gonna feature an IP that Disney has ties to.

I mean, if you think about it...it's one of the more popular animes out there right now, Universal sells a bunch of merch of it/it exists over at the Japan park, and it definitely plays into horror themes. Plus, with season 2 just recently finishing up, it wouldn't shock me. Idk about other generations, but I know it's very popular with Gen Z since all my friends talk about watching it. Demon Slayer makes a lot of sense to me.

*Side eyes Marvel Super Hero Island*

Ok...

*Glances at The Simpsons*

Cool, checks out.

Universal not only openly features known Disney brands, they do so almost brazenly and make a TON of money doing it. It's called business.

I will point out that both existed in Universal Parks before they were Disney brands.

I've been talking with my almost 19 year old about what would click most of the boxes for the horror adjacent IP but popular IP for his generation. The only thing he can't pinpoint down is truly headlining. But his guesses are Coraline, Goosebumps, Scary Stories to Tell In The Dark.

And on a personal note, can we get a Sweeny Todd house?

Would Goosebumps work for the meta house?

Yup, for many many years... but that's completely beside my point. Regardless, arguing the complexities of property rights is exhausting and not at all appealing right now... so instead, my second submission to the horror adjacent, divisive property that could be a headliner...

The Witcher. Features many horror staples without being classified horror. Will divide fans due to "is it horror enough?"... the show still remains one of the most watched shows on Netflix, and it has a prequel series The Witcher: Blood Orgin set to release later this year.
