Scooby Doo is the best guess I've seen, some smoke / rationale:

1. A 'Velma' show is coming soon to HBO Max that is targeted at an older audience
2. There was just a reunion / anniversary show on the CW last Halloween
3. Would sell merchandise, the villian line that Funko makes are very popular

4. Characters are already in the park
5. Fits in with recent funhouses like Beetlejuice and Ghostbusters

I don't see why HHN would want to cross promote a HBO Max show when NBCUniversal has their own service now with Peacock and a working relationship with Netflix, it seems if they're going to promote a show on a streaming service it's going to be either Peacock or Netflix.

I’ve not seen knives out but how could that be a house? What kind of jump scares? And the whole point of that film is figuring out who the killer is. Cant really have that mystery in a house

It’d be like turning Clue into a house

Surprised less people are leaning towards Ghostbusters Afterlife.

Based on the reaction of the first house I can see this being Very divisive with fans. It's incredibly popular with the GP too.

I mean at that point you might as well just do the original house again, I mean there’s like what two original ghosts in that movie? Not counting the mini puffs? I guess that would be a controversial pick?

I'm going to put Gremlins back in the ring here. Reasons?

-It is popular with the general public and horror adjacent (I know some folks still consider it a "cult classic" but people know Gremlins and it's horror adjacent in that it's horror comedy.)
-Not a music artist or musical act.
-IP is a TV show and/or movie: Two movies and there's an animated TV series on Netflix...plus given HHN's relationship with Netflix, this checks out, even if it's not a new series to promote, it still seems like a win in that it's classic and still relevant/well liked.

There will be nay-sayers for any IP, but overall I don't see Gremlins being polarizing. A sizeable majority of fans would eat that news up with a spoon.

Also, just because it was PG or PG-13 doesn't mean it can only be "horror adjacent." It's a darkly comedic horror flick, but it's still clearly horror.

I'd still love to see it, hell it could be one of the other 9 houses, but the O.P.'s description would be a weird way to tease Gremlins.

ETA: Gremlins was the #4 movie in 1984, just behind Temple of Doom, ahead of Karate Kid. It was a massive hit in its day. It is in no way, shape or form "a cult classic."

It didn't do that well at the box office. *Could* be.

I don't classify Ghostbusters Afterlife purely because it's an IP that has been done before, that being the original Ghostbusters.

It's already been done, and already has had a presence with HHN (added in with USF in the general terms). Ghostbusters Afterlife would essentially be just Stranger Things: Lite. Why do the lite version of Stranger Things, when you already have an active relationship with Netflix.

I still can’t tell if we’re looking for an old IP or a newer one. That plus the idea that it’s very popular with the GP would narrow it down.

Nightmare Alley came to mind a few days ago as a horror-adjacent property, but much like GB:AL, I don’t think it did that well at the box office to be considered popular with the GP.

Only a few IPs are in the same class as GB and BJ: Scooby Doo, Addams Family, Casper, and Gremlins.

I enjoyed nightmare alley and love the setting but no idea how you'd make it a house really

Same here. Great atmosphere for a house but certainly not enough scares.

To clarify:

There is an IP that Rookie described as horror-adjacent. This IP is big enough to headline. It will likely divide HHN fandom.

Ringwraith’s comment regarding a “meta” IP (or event as a whole) is a separate thing. Is this breakdown accurate?

I remember reading that the codename for the "family-friendly" house is "Casper".

I believe this is accurate, yes.

I think the common theory right now is the meta IP is Scream, now we're just trying to figure out the horror-adjacent.

Ugh, gonna have take a shot in the dark and say it’s probably The Terminator. It’s horror adjacent with it being sci-fi action mixed with some horror (Though I’m not sure if it would cause some controversy among the community), a popular franchise that’s big enough to headline, and it had an attraction along with Beetlejuice and Ghostbusters.

But this IP is divisive. Again, this sounds like an IP that HHN fans would enjoy seeing, whereas something like Scooby Doo creates the divide over having family friendly IPs at the event.

What about the Foo fighters Studio 666 movie coming out? The trailer looks cool and I could see that maybe being a controversial house?
