Not trying to start a war or anything and I absolutely love HHN, their world class production values and ability to draw on intellectual properties, but I prefer the local/regional haunts here in the Tri-State/New England area to the Orlando attraction.

There's just something I prefer about a 20-30-40 minute walk through attraction with varied slices of horror goodness over the 'one idea/theme/IP per house' style of HHN. That's also not even counting on the Hayride, which is, IMO, THE way to experience a haunted attraction.

I'm a hayride guy myself, for sure. HHN and local haunts are definitely two COMPLETELY different experiences and honestly can't even be compared.

An HHN-produced hayride is my haunt dream, lol

I would normally never visit SeaWorld while I’m in town for HHN. But now if I’m going to Orlando I’m 100% checking out HoS. That already reduces my HHN trip by at least 1 night, taking away some business from HHN.

I also wonder how this will effect HHN’s pool of talent. Especially for Fire Crew and reserves.

At the moment? I don’t expect much shift. Universal has a higher minimum wage than SeaWorld right now ($15 compared to $13), and far more “perks” that come with employment. It’s also the more prestigious event. HoS is likely to be a lot of people who just didn’t get cast for HHN.

I didn't think about that angle of HoS being HHN's scraps talent wise. Excellent point

I mean calling them the leftovers isn't exactly the full picture either. Sure HHN has its veterans that they want to cast whenever/wherever they can, but it also comes down to their needs for the year. They cast for specific roles/body type, rather than for talent, so there are definitely years incredibly talented actors don't end up cast simply because they didn't fit the mold

HHN hasn’t been a matter of “talent” in ten/fifteen years. With the audition process being nothing more than a cattle call, the ability of someone to scare hasn’t mattered.

I’ll be curious to see if HoS does talent-based auditions like Tampa. That, in and of itself, would be a big adjustment for a lot of HHN people who have never had to do an improvised scare for an audition before.

I imagine tours could sell out but I’ve never seen the passes sell out.

Sorry for putting this here, but I can't find an answer anywhere else.

If my dad and I bought BOGO tickets last year and didn't refund them, are they still valid for 2021?

Really excited. I booked my flight for the 15-18. I really hope they offer Unmasking the Horrors. This time might be the year I purchase a RIP just to make up for not getting to visit Orlando last year.

lol same here, booked my flight from the 14-18... then JetBlue canceled my flight for the 14th and gave me the option of a refund or to take a flight (at the same time as my old one) on the 13th... eh one more day at Universal never hurt nobody ;)

I went to the Halloween thing at Six Flags New England like 4 or 5 years ago and thought it was a ton of fun, LOVED the "house/maze" through the woods. It was so cool to be back in the woods, no conga line, wide enough for you to take your time and check stuff out and not hold everybody up, and then they had a pretty long tunnel type thing (archway like an aircraft hanger) that was pretty long with fog so think you couldn't see your hand in front of your face with some bright light flashes and lasers. It was a long walkthrough and the tunnel was so disorienting (in a fun way). The price was great too.

The Headless Horseman Haunted Hayride in NY was OK, the hayride was great...the corn maze was decent...the houses were lacking. The chainsaw carvers was an interesting touch. That might be a bit harsh, but I'm basing those ratings on the price and how crowded it was. If it was cheaper and/or less lines I'd give it more of a break. Waiting in the switchback lines for 90min for the hayride was a bit too much. I went to that like 4 or 5 different years. Of course, HHN has me so spoiled that I completely understand why the locals think it's the greatest thing in the world :)

Also from the Tri-State area and worked for a local haunt in upstate NY for years. Pure Terror Scream Park had a tunnel in their house where you had to get on your knees and crawl an area with chicken wire on top while the actors hit the top of it, Universal could never.

I've always wanted to check that out. I used to work at Field of Screams in Lancaster PA and we had something similar. Crawl on hands and knees through a pitch black tunnel, over bodies and everything.

I'm really intrigued to see how much of a price hike the tours see this year.

Does anybody expect there’s a chance of a entire line up drop the 17th or just a house Announcement?

No clue on the likelihood of anything, but it might be worth pointing out that on the 17th we will have 11 weeks until the first event date. Just enough to announce a house every week + scarezones with an extra week before the event begins.
