I mean, the attraction's very existence already totally flies in the face of the park being about "real human stories." So I don't mind some extra place-making that is at least trying to be in the Epcot spirit. It feels far less pandering than the Peter Quill scene in the queue does.

What does the scene entail? Does he talk about going to Epcot as a kid or something?

And by "reality adjacent kick", what else are you referring to that they've done lately? The Ratatouille area?

Yes, but was mostly referring to the queue line of Guardians

It's towing some kind of line between commitment to the new identity and trying to scavenge some sense of "theme" at Epcot

Before anyone starts b*tching, I like Guardians and think having a coaster in Epcot was a great idea

There's just a few bits on the execution front that I find rather humorous

I actually find Rat to be one of the more well executed "IP's in World Showcase" examples

The facades transition quite well to a more animated look and it is rather tucked away while taking place "in" its respective country

I agree Ratatouille is the best done and I don't actually think Frozen is done poorly either, but the problem because they forced this in here so they could have a Frozen ride that now we'll never get the actual Frozen land and mini-land that the other parks are getting. The TDS ride is the only area that isn't copy and pasting Frozen Ever After and giving it a higher capacity. They have a completely unique ride to their park that seems like it will be the best Frozen ride anywhere, with it being compared to Shanghai Pirates in it's technology.

I'm not a huge fan of Frozen's implementation, but I also get it

IMO there's no reason why Guardians couldn't have been tied into the "Universe of Energy" and perhaps that the biggest misstep for me

Statues and plaques like this are very amusing and only prove to highlight some of the flaws I see in the current implementation of things at Epcot

Yeah, I don't mean to open a can of worms but every single Disney has done relating to Marvel just seems pedestrian compared stuff Universal did over twenty years ago. Perhaps I am just biased...

I could write and essay about this, but largely I look at the individual parts when comparing, and some context needs to be applied.

Disney is attempting to adapt something that takes place mostly in the real world and IMO a lot of the flack thrown at Disney is because "the things are what they are"...in other words the warehouses are *supposed* to be warehouses, and the borderline brutalist buildings are *supposed* to be cold and industrial...However, I can't blame people for taking a look at it and going "meh"...

Universal's version on the other hand is bringing out the glossy, neon, bolder characteristics of being in a comic book. It's rather charming and has a lot of heart and character. Buuut could be viewed as somewhat kitsch and budget cutty by some.

I find Universal's far more dynamic and interesting...but I'm also an IOA-simp and it's one of the few things at Universal that hasn't changed all that much since it opened

The best way I know how to explain it is Universal's Marvel is Sam Raimi's Spiderman and Disney's Marvel is Holland Trilogy

One is clean, modern and hits the right beats. And the other one had character, heart, and you're guaranteed to watch it whenever its on

I also argue without Spiderman as the anchor to Universal's Marvel it might not be viewed quite so fondly

Also, Disney's food offerings are much better in their Marvel land, as are the character interactions.

Yeah, it's a lot easier to build a MSI that looks cartoonish to reflect the comic book universe which makes you feel like you've stepped into a comic than recreating an important cinematic universe location like, say, the Battle of New York... which is just New York. We had that at Studios, and they bulldozed it.

Right, The MCU *is* in the real world and current time period, for the most part, and the aesthetics of the land do reflect that

I have a feeling we were one truly great E-ticket away from everyone changing their tune on the Disney Marvel lands

Since we're sharing our hot takes

Guardians should have been the trackless Rise style dark ride and Star Wars should have gotten the coaster

And that's how I fixed Disney World

How's it even a hot take though? If they can actually get a top of the shelf E-ticket built and split the R&D costs between DCA/WDSP/HKDL, then I think the lands will be looked at in a completely new light. Spider-Man no longer has to carry all the weight and is actually probably the third best attraction at both Avengers Campuses.

The way I see it is DCA's version is fun, but feels small and incomplete. Mission Breakout I like better than ToT and I probably like WEB Slingers more than the average person on here or about on par with the average visitor. I don't mind the Sanctum Santorum experience for what it is. Also, i'm not like a big M&G person, but this land does things like that great and found myself just taking random selfies because the character/performer wanted to interact with me and my group.

I think the land will feel like a much more fleshed out land once/if that E-ticket finally comes, although i'll admit it's all dependent on quality. To meet my bar of the land actually earning a good reputation, the E-ticket needs to have an experience around the quality of RotR at least. If Star Wars can get that love, so can Marvel.

For anyone who has been on recently, how has the virtual line been? Going to the park in the next few weeks and wondering if it’s still going within seconds like Ratatouille or if it’s just damn near impossible to get one like Rise.
