I asked basically the same question on the horror movie thread, but what is something in a film that just turns you off from seeing it (either again or for the first time) regardless of the quality of the rest of the film?

I never seen either, but wasn’t the original Twister already a brainless dumb movie?

I personally wouldn't call TWISTER "dumb." The character dynamics are well thought-out and performed.

"Brainless," perhaps, but not in a negative way. It just wants to deliver a really fun time, and doesn't let too much get in the way of it achieving that goal.

Dumb and brainless (kind of) imply a flaw or a mistake. I think TWISTER is exactly the movie it wants to be.

the original twister had pretty amazing cast. the story was simple but the cast was wonderful.
they made it epic.

as for turn offs, bad music. or bad acting. I never saw Chappie again because of the actors. but the movie was pretty good. if characters are annoying I don't watch it again.
I can't remember what other movie was it, but the music made me not finish it.

Tardy to the party, but as someone who could never get into anime, completely surprised that I love the live-action OnePiece. Kind of an 80s Terry Gilliam vibe, a mixed-up world blending various fantasy and modern tropes that's just always visually interesting. Mostly kid-friendly but not afraid to get dark at times, either. Actors are likeable enough portraying stock characters. As I alluded to, no idea how it compares v. the animation, but as its own thing a fun ride.

I'm not even gonna lie on this--I am genuinely happy George and Brad are doing another Oceans film together.

The Oceans series has always been a genuine pleasure of mine; even if 8 wasn't to the level of the original Trilogy. Genuinely hope they can round up the gang that remains for this film, and to bring on some of the 8 Ensemble,

I'm sorry, but half the sauce is Soderbergh and his weird aesthetic idiosyncracies, and the deathly serious Edward Berger is not the guy to emulate that.

Yeah, Berger would be an absolutely bizarre choice for this.

(I also don't want him on Bond, which has also been rumored.)

I think what you ideally want in a director of an Ocean's film is someone who can pull off a blend of irreverence and classiness, which is emblematic in both the films' characters and stylistic influences.

Someone like Sean Baker could be a more inspired choice for Oceans, His style would be unique from Soderbergh's, sure, but he his films have a similar, if more choatic, mix of stylization meeting verismillitude.

The Safdies would also be fun, though they might be a touch too chaotic for Oceans.

It's gotta be Soderbergh and it's gotta be filmed on an iPhone. I'm sorry, there are rules.

Don't think Soderbergh's shooting on iPhone anymore due to the difficulties around capturing raw camera data on modern mobile devices without the image being algorithmically manipulated in some arcane way. I don't think he's shot on iPhone since High Flying Bird, though he bet he loves those BlackMagic cameras.

These 2 things are what turn me off from watching the Dark Knight Rises:

1) the whole commentary about ”class warfare”; though to be fair I haven’t watched the film in a while so I don’t really know what bugged me about it.

2) After Rachel’s death, Bruce just gave up being Batman and became a recluse for how many years?

Still it’s kinda disappointing that Bruce just hung up the cowl immediately after the Two-Face incident. Almost sucks the coolness out the final short of the Dark Knight. Batman in Mask of the Phantasm also had the love sucked out of him (twice), yet he still persisted in donning the cowl.

Oh and yeah I almost forgot, Bane the main villain being a patsy for the REAL main villain Talia, a character who’s villainy is revealed for like 5 minutes. Screw that. So that’s THREE things that tarnishes the film.

It is nice that it’s one universe where Bruce Wayne can achieve anything resembling a happy life, especially when considering how DC Comics would treat the character time and time.

Make it a tongue in cheek somewhat satire of FnF with some cool action scenes and laugh all the way to the bank.
