Maintenance, stacking trains leading to a rolling stop, it might not be the best way to get the ride up in the morning, etc.

Thanks for the response, I work in building automation and for a lot of the chiller plants I control we do a 3 plus 1 setup. Three max chillers at any time and 1 backup in case of a failure. I’m imagining coaster trains would be similar.

I have stated this before but the only way to improve reliability any further would be to eliminate the drop tracks. Create a way to slowly slide backwards and down (controlled braking and high-level theming plus an animatronic) and then transfer track to align with the forward sections. However, it seems like the drop-track is starting to finally behave and thus hopefully no change is required.

Busch Gardens Williamsburg has Verbolten with the same drop track and has been running pretty good for a while now, now they don’t have all the other things Hagrids has that have to be timed to work, but the drop track does work fine.

Verbolten does not use the same drop track as Hagrid. Verbolten is manufactured by Zierer and Hagrid is manufactured by Intamin. Personally I feel the drop on Verbolten is a bit more intense but the theming on Hagrid makes up for it.

This might be a dumb question and kinda applies to all coasters, but why not keep the max available amount of trains on the ride at all times?

The trains are to be inspected every night but currently only 6 trains can fit in the bay at a time. That means at least 4 will not be available in the morning until they're put into the bay and inspected.

Is there any chance they'd be able to expand the inspection area? Or is it pretty landlocked?

Ice always been fascinated by this ride, warts and all. Can you (or anyone ITT) explain why having 10 trains fit into the bay at once will improve downtime? Is there a certain number of hours each train has to test in the morning? Or what is it?

The ideal scenario is what, 10 trains running for max throughput. Isn’t that virtually impossible, due to load/unload times. For example, someone with mobility challenges delaying loading. Or am I way off base in my understanding

At this point, most of Hagrid's downtime is from the swapping out of trains to and from the maintenance bay in the morning, which usually prevents it from opening until 15-30 minutes after early entry starts. Removing a train from the maintenance bay requires it to cycle the track, but that cannot occur until the ride is operational because of the complex ride elements that need to be inspected and powered on. The 6 trains that stay in the maintenance bay overnight can be inspected prior to the ride opening, but it's process of switching out the remaining 4 that is causing delays.

Thanks for all the responses. Is there any one thing that is the usual culprit for keeping the ride down for a full day?

Simple ; the 4 cars left on the track )because they dont fit in the building) have to be pulled off to be inspected after the ride opens. That means a 6-train operation until those are signed off, regardless of how busy it is. With this they can open with all 10 trains ready to go

On the Universal AP page, it's being reported that Universal has removed the single riders line and sign. Riders are reporting that Universal has gone back to the old way of dividing the line into even and odd numbered separate groups before you get on the ride....and the line is moving a tad quicker than before.

Okay that makes sense and it's great if it means the line is moving faster. I was confused last week when I asked if it was open and the TM at the entrance legit said this and felt like I was being mind tricked:

thereisnosingleriders.png

It still shows as having it on the app. I'm sure they'll update that eventually.

The single ride line isn't always available. Its like Spiderman - sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't

I'm aware of that. The TMs response to asking if it was open was literally "there is no single riders" rather than like "it's closed right now." The portion of the sign that mentions it is missing near the entrance as mentioned earlier so it sounds like a new permanent change (or they've removed it to discourage people asking/being aware of it).

Usually I'll pass by and if I see the chain up for (what was?) single riders I'll keep going. That day the chain was down and an attendant was standing in front of it, which is why I asked.

If they've changed how they do it now by splitting odd/even groups then single riders is indeed gone.

This ride will never get Express lol. Even if they do, it’ll be a ONE time use a day for this ride only.
Has that new expanded maintenance bay opened up yet?
