but the problem with that, as I see it, was during that time period things weren't really scary and would be considered very mild when compared to todays standard. I mean back then people fainted and cowered at the sight of the wicked witch of the west.

Does anyone besides me remember the rumor in 2009 about the event being Stephen King inspired and a lot of if it was on this website in particular and we made Screamscape multiple times. Fun stuff.

That sounds REALLY cool. Lot of thought put into that one. You know who the icon should be?

Hm. I think a Christmas theme could be cool and Krampus would make a killer icon. As far as houses go... here are a few ideas:

1) Legendary Truth: Home Alone- A house very similar to Kevin Mcallister's only haunted where the traps are set for children and intruders by supernatural boogymen. Complete with creepy, screaming basement furnace.

2) Gremlins: Mogwai Massacre- Based on the film Gremlins. Never feed your fear after midnight.

3)Trick 'R Treat: SAMta Clause is coming to town- Based on the film Trick 'R Treat. Similar in fashion to Nightmare Before Christmas, Sam puts a bloody Halloween spin on the yule-tide holiday.

4) Havok: Winter Soldiers- The serial-numbered serial killers are back and ready to rock and roid. Some presents are better left wrapped.

5) Leave it to Cleaver: A Dish Best Served Cold- The spirit's in the air at Max's Meats as they prep for the holidays in their colorfully decorated facility with a fresh crop of ripe, seasoned people. Christmas dinner will never be the same.

6) The Pageant: Gory to the Newborn King- What was meant to be an innocent church play of the birth of baby Jesus explodes into a celestial battle of good and evil. The live baby used in the play was none other than the newborn Anti-Christ. It's a test of survival as pageant spectators try to escape through the cross-hairs of an unholy war between angels and demons.

7) The Workshop- Season's Beatings- the Icon house set in the North Pole where Santa's workshop once sat, now abandoned. Krampus lurks the courtiers, broom in hand, ready to beat naughty souls straight to hell. Santa is strapped on a torture bed and mutilated with eerie, deranged little elves creeping throughout the maze. Can you imagine seeing demented reindeer, too? Antlers bursting through walls and all. Anyway, this is why I wish I worked for Universal's Creative department.

Okay, I know it's EXTREMELY early, but here's my pitch for my HHN event, which would take place across two parks.
HNN 22: Apocalypse Now
(Not at all based off the movie)
Icons:
Pestilence/Conquest: Alexander Black is powerful doctor who has helped the people of his city recover from the various diseases that have continuously crippled the city. Little do they know, the source of these diseases are none other than Mr. Black himself
War: Arnold Schlagerei(Brawl in German) is a conspirator who will stop at nothing to see a good fight. His bloodlust has caused many battles and riots through history, though he has never gotten credit for starting them.
Famine:A tribe leader known only as Njaa (Hunger in Swahili) lives in a desolate region that water hasn't touched in years, and where food is sparse. The small tribe is forced to live off of sacrifices, led by the tribe leader. Explorers are told to keep away from this reigion, but most of the time, they don't listen.
Death:The most dangerous, yet most unassuming of this quartet of chaos is Melanie Faucheuse (reaper in french), a teenage girl who comes from a long line of reapers. While she can be cute and forgiving, her personallity can change on a dime, turning into a raging demon who's wrath is felt by all.
Our words of advice: don't mess with death.
Houses:
History of Horror:Celebrating 100 years of screams on the Silver Screen, you are invited to a special front row screening of some of the most fearsome flicks ever witnessed. Don't be afraid though, if the onscreen action feels a little too real.
Zomburbia: An gated community has been closed to the world for years. It's believed that it had been abandoned, but the truth is that this neighborhood is far from abandoned. Venture, at your own risk, into undead territory, but make sure you don't become someone's midnight snack.
Catacombs-Black Death Risen: The disease that the catacombs couldn't contain has now escaped onto the streets of Europe. Your task: leave the catacombs, navigate the streets and, with luck, escape the disease known as the black death.
The Zoo- Feeding Time -Carey Ohio's zoo has been kept a secret for years, after government testing backfired horribly, turning the zoo's normally docile creatures into mutated beasts. Now, the zoos steel gates open once again, but beware, its feeding time!
War of the Worlds:- Enter a cosmic warzone as aliens, in their intergalactic war machines, terrorize the city. In this battle between earth and space, no-one is safe.
Enter the King: Travel through a horrific wonderland that could come on from the mind of Stephen King. Watch as his twisted characters come to life around you in this realm of tension and terror.
The End:Welcome to the end. In this Apocalyptic world is the domain of our four icons. Once you enter their world though, you may never escape.
An 8th house would be reserved for an upcoming film, which they done for a few years.
Scarezones:
The End is Here: (Hollywood) The apocalyptic insanity begins as soon as you enter. Witness the havoc the four bearers of the Apocalypse have released upon Halloween Horror Nights.
Grave Danger: (Production Central) Death's wrath has relased an army of undead upon those who enter this graveyard. Tread wisely, as to not join the dead in their domain.
PyroMania: (San Fransisco) Patients, infected with a mind-altering disease, have escaped the confines of quarintine and now wreak havoc on the city. Will you leave with your mind intact?
Cut from the Screen: (New York Alley) In an alley where rejected film piles high, creatures, straight from the movies, creep in the shadows. Dont get your life "cut" short by them.
The Sacrifice: (Port of Entry) The people of this village keep an eye on you as you walk through their territory, looking for a sacrifice. Will you be their next "chosen one".
Enemy TERRORtory: (Marvel Island) After a lenghtly battle between good and evil, villans have taken over, and all remaining heroes have become their slaves. Watch Out! Your in enemy territory now.
Toonsanity: (Toon Lagoon) Twisted Toons have taken over this once delightful land, turning it into a cartoon nightmare. Can you escape the insanity of these toons?
Urban Jungle: (Jurassic Park) Enter a post-apocalyptic wasteland where the jungle has consumed all urban development. Escape from the cannibalistic survivors and you may survive, as long as you don't meet up with the mutated beasts brought by radiation.
Roaming Hoardes: The apocalypse has its surprises. We won't spoil the fun for you.
Shows:
Bill and Ted (Toon Lagoon Theatre)
Penn and Teller (Wild West Stunt Show) (please PLEASE be true.)

Tell me what you think.
P.S. Does anyone know how to attach pictures from your desktop on a PC?

Cool stuff! I'm not sure if you've read Neil Gaiman's "Good Omens", but it's about the antichrist returning to earth and has the four horseman of the apocalypse cleverly disguised as everyday people in sometimes high powered jobs that resemble their specific prowess. There are then two angels, one fallen and one good, who try to prevent the apocalypse from happening. This reminded me of that...in a good way. Definitely a must read.

You have to use an image hosting website like image shack to upload pictures from your PC and then use the URL link that they give you to post pics.

- Halloween Horror Nights 23 -

Legendary Nightmares

(Note: This has spent a while in the design-phase, and lots of art has already been drawn. I've added a few new things based off of this year's event. I hope everyone enjoys, and the art is definitely coming soon, I'm not just bluffing!)

Summary

From the deepest realms of the human mind arise the legends of tales past. Lores after lores tell of fearful encounters that only seem to exist when we sleep, and they are now restless; they hunger for reality, for vengeance of being awoken by our race, and for our flesh.

And when you enter Halloween Horror Nights 23, they will show no mercy.

Descriptions

- Street Experiences

This year, Universal takes the central concept of the legions arising from a large graveyard and limits the roaming of the characters, thereby creating a new way of theming various areas differently, and yet still stringing the whole street experience with a solid storyline and scare tactic.

23 also bores lots of new experiences and personal scare tactics that invade every inch of potential space around guests. All the new characters are experiencing the world and its humans for the first time in a very long while, and are both restless and viciously protective of their graves.

  1. The Iniquitos (Entrance area) [in-EE-quee-tose]: Tall figures that cause sheer violence and war wherever they roam, the Iniquitos are here to show their anger and allow no escape from their wrath by ganging up on the most innocent and chanting vigorously of war alongside the sounds of instruments of torture. Their graves are tall, demented, and covered with ancient symbols that glow red.
  2. The Terranos (Between DM and S4D) [terr-AH-nose]: These monsters arise not only from the ground, but with it as well. They reek of dirt and grime, and want to guard their land by being a part of it. They attack by using camoflauge, and will create barriers as they chant of the land they lost. Their graves are seamless with their bodies, and therefore confuse guests when they jump out from them.
  3. The Athernos (Hollywood area) [ah-THER-nose]: Ethereal looking creatures with wings, the Athernos protect the skies by killing viciously with hidden sharp teeth located throughout their beautiful and glowing bodies. They swoop down singing eerie tunes, and scare their prey before devouring them [accomplished with harnesses]. Their graves are clouds, and nothing else.
  4. The Marenos (Cafe la Bamba and Central Park area) [ma-REH-nose]: From the seven seas of the world, many pirates have perished at sea alongside their vessels. Slowly, they morphed and evolved into terrible and grotesque sea creatures, and are jealous of the humans that have not felt their pain. From this jealousy arises a pure hatred and willful protection of their ships, the many broken parts of which are laid throughout, which they use to hide behind and chant of their lost families.
  5. The Gracilos (Kidzone) [GRA-kee-lose]: Born from the SomethingAwful forums, these are the ever-so infamous Slender Men, and they're not just one. They tie in with their House (see below), and use similar scare tactics. Their graves are of wretched pieces of wrought iron, and their main tactics are to slowly invite guests into warm lights and then attack them with their long tentacular arms (and strobes). The Gracilos don't chant, but they hum monotonously.
  6. The Stellanos (Simpsons and MIB area) [ste-LA-nose]: From even higher than our skies arrive the Stellanos, or, as we identify them more commonly, aliens. Their crashed spaceships allow for them to hide shyly from us, but when they see that all we are is delicious meat, they show their true hungry natures and reveal mouths with rows of teeth and bioluminescent tongues. Their chants are horrifying screaches set to very esoteric rhythms.
  7. The Inhumanos (New York and San Francisco area) [een-oo-MAH-nose]: The most angry, most ill-at-mind, most vengeful of all the nightmare creatures, the Inhumanos resemble humans very closely, particularly businesspeople, construction workers, delinquents, and students. Their only difference? They stay completely still while appearing to be in the middle of performing a natural action, always wear sunglasses at nighttime, and always wear black. When provoked, they unleash their tense anger, and lunge at guests with various kinds of bloody knives (and chainsaws) wrought and bent into all kinds of shapes, which lay hidden within their accesories (suitcases, textbooks, etc.). Their graves are the citylike facades themselves, which will be used in all sorts of creative ways.

- Shows

  1. Universal's MONSTERFEST (FFL Stage): Combining classic tunes from a horrifying orchestral base (provided by the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra) and a rocking mix of guitars, drums, and a professional DJ, Universal's MONSTERFEST amalgamates the incredulous amounts of horror creatures made by Universal throughout the years in a stunning and brand new theatrical adventure.
  2. Third-Party Show (Beetlejuice Stage): Likely a comedic and grotesque magic show.

- Lagoon Experiences

This year, the lagoon presents a brand new show called Fontes Sanguis, or "fountains of blood". The fountains, new fog machines, mist screens, and lasers all paint the areas surrounding the lagoon in a dementedly red color. The water screens are not used to project anything, but their lights accentuate the blood spilled across the lagoon with shades of white and red.

- Houses

  1. Slender (Parade Building): A revolutionary new way to go through a House based on a very popular internet-based myth from the SomethingAwful forums (click here for background information) makes Slender the flagship House at HHN 23. The house is very much like the free online game, which is terrifying (and potentially hilarious) in its own right, but even more so when you're living the experience. Guests enter the house through a hole in a very abstract and almost globular representation of Slender Man's face, and are handed a plain and black flashlight with a single button and five LEDs along the top (1 per group). This flashlight has a chip within it, and guests are told to search for glowing-green batteries located throughout the "forest" in order to get out. Throughout the forest are the focal elements seen in the game, and as guests walk through, Slender Men appear from behind trees and tall bushes. The objective is to acquire the batteries by touching their flashlight to each pair, thereby "charging the flashlight" and activating an LED. Guests cannot and should not skip a focal element, because if they do, the flashlight indicates low batteries by vibrating and flashing a message that says "GO BACK". The 'maze' has no dead-ends, but it is disorienting because the only way to lead guests from place to place is by fences. At the very end, a huge Slender Man extends his arms, and reveals a hole through his body, which leads to a long exit-alley that is flanked by various other Slender Men that pop out. The entire house is one large crescendo in terms of audio, all leading to this large climax.
  2. Cabin in the Woods: Placation Vacation (Soundstage 20A): (If you haven't watched the movie already, do so. ASAP. Now. Pronto. I don't care how, just do it. I've placed everything in this description in spoiler tags because I don't want to ruin it for you!)
The first out of two IP Houses, Cabin in the Woods: PV uses the extremely creative climax of the film as well as its preceding storyline to birth the amazing creations that the corporation in the film uses in order to placate the Gods. Each flow of guests enters the cabin, encounters the basement, then the crazy redneck zombie killer family who's killed/is killing the various cabin-goers, and then enters the corporation, where the monsters are already running amuck, killing people left and right. The finale includes the huge shaking circle where the blood of the sacrificed cabin-goers is already filled, except for the "Fool", which are the guests. As presumed, the monsters are all out to attack the guests, and they must evade them in order to escape. In the end, a dead HHN attendee is seen with blood spewing from his neck as the mouth-faced ballerina works on his arm (which is still holding a huge cup of beer that says "HHN 23: DRINK RESPONSIBLY") viciously.
  3. La Llorona (Disaster Queue) [la jo-RO-na]: A longer adaptation of USH's praised house, La Llorona comes to Orlando's event with a larger facade, taller scenes, and a split ending where guests can either be scared by La Llorona as she appears by breaking a window in a nursery (water effect), or as she appears in an archway ("floor-shock" effect similar to the electric effect in Spider-Man).
  4. Gothic Reborn (Soundstage 20B): An adaptation of 22's Gothic, Gothing Reborn undergoes a large upgrade, featuring swooping gargoyles (similar to The Athernos)
  5. Teki-Teki (Soundstage 22): From the modern-day Japanese urban legend, Kashima Reiko was a promising future politician who believed in equality for all. Overwhelmed by her inability to change the selfish and prejudiced nature of human beings and their quick willingness to divide people into groups based on opinions, lifestyles, and appearances, Kashima comitted suicide by falling on train tracks and therefore being sliced into two. However, her soul still lingers, and when she encounters any human, she drags her torso to them (making the sound "teki-teki" which signals her arrival), wielding a scythe, and slices them in half when they least expect it, making her anger towards people's willingness to dichotomize others well known. Guests begin their encounter with Teki-Teki in the middle of a busy street in Tokyo, and make their way through alleyways and apartments where the sliced bodies of the individuals Teki-Teki has attacked are not yet dead. As guests keep spotting Teki-Teki, they get closer to seeing her and ending her madness. At last, they encounter a sleeping woman, see Teki-Teki in the window, and as they try to escape, she lunges at them in a final and cinematic scare.
  6. Pen & Teller New(kd) Los Angeles (Tent 1): The basic premise of New(kd) Las Vegas is still here, just involving the crazy elements found in LA and the exact same creative audience-to-audience-affecting element.
  7. CLOSE ENCOUNTER (Tent 2): Linked with The Stellanos, guests enter into a huge crashed spaceship. Think The Thing from HHN 21, but with a much more bright and futuristic element. Guests will be imbued in light, and scares are created with lots of splattered blood on the walls and near-blinding flashes. The final scene has a room of hanging humans with multiple limbs missing, and multiple aliens attempting to catch guests. What will set this house apart is its creative use of sounds (particularly from the aliens) and its huge facade.

My event goes like this Call Designers of Netherworld, 13th Gate, House of Shock and Dent Schoolhouse. Give them the Budget and turn them loose. Hire people to catch fanboys crying running to parking lot from the FEAR!

HHN Face Your Fears

I know "Fear" was just an icon but I think we shouldn't use the guy on stilts. Instead of doing Video Games / TV Shows, I think we should go WAY WAY back to the basics of what people are actually scared of. This concept would rely less on people jumping out and saying "Boo" and more on set designs and actual creepiness. Put more people in the streets. Have a whole zombie thing or something in the streets with TONS of people.

1. Darkness
Not pitch black, because I believe they tried that one year with a room of white in the middle. No me gusta. Just overall darkness with creepy people / things also in black, moving suddenly. Black cats are a starting point.

2. Heights / Flying
If any of you have been to Kennywood in PA, there's a silly little thing called Noah's Ark and a portion of it makes you feel like you HAVE to step on the stones to get across a river or walk on a beam of wood, but in reality there's glass so you don't "fall". I want a whole house like that, but that makes you feel like you're in the air. Would be a nightmare and a half for capacity issues but I think a ton of fun.

3. Death
Who isn't scared of dying? A morgue, cemetery, funeral home, anything that has to do with death. You could even have a part where you get "hit" by a car/train. Jail cells and scary inmates also acceptable in this house. Fear of being buried alive would also be great.

4. Animals
Spiders, Roaches, Snakes, Bees, Bats, Worms, Rats, Dogs, Alligators, Birds, Sharks? ... Any other scary animals I'm missing?

5. The Woods
Cabin in the woods, creepy lake with fog, probably a thunderstorm, camping turned wrong, basically. Lots of trees, lots of bears, wolves, killer deer, murders, killer plants, lightning and thunder.

6. Carnival
Clowns, clowns, clowns & mirrors galore. I need creepy carnival music with balloons popping constantly. Creepy mannequin heads, blood in the popcorn, 'bad' candy apples, dolls. A creepy carousel with horse noises. Would be spectacular if they could do Disney princess' gone wrong too.

7. Humor House
A wall of cotton balls with someone covered in cotton balls pops out. Poking fun at actual fears such as cotton balls but having them "come to life" for other people. Feathers and breaking mirrors are another good example. Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia [Fear of long words] written on the wall. Laughter loop playing in the background.

No! No Slender! Too scary! I'm still trying to repress the horrifying memories I have of that game!! And it seems like Slender is a little too over hyped in the internet world recently, would make Uni just seem like a internet hipster if they added a house from a little myth.
