I mean, we'll see. We've never had an immersive (or any) theme park land with this amount of spookiness.

No, but we've had rides with that amount of spookiness.

The only one to my recollection that ever got the axe due to scariness being a contributing factor was Alien Encounter at MK.

I put my 6 year old daughter on Millennium Force at Cedar Point. She was pale and shakey when she got off. I felt bad...then she said, let's do it again.

Don't underestimate children.

I was the kid who rode Tower of Terror 4 times in a row when i was FINALLY tall enough to ride.
I was the kid who had my parents buy me stuffed animals of BOTH of the aliens featured in Alien Encounter.
I was the kid who proudly displayed my sideshow collectible Universal Monsters figurines all over my room.

Hell, the only people in front of me at my first house for Horror Nights last year was a family with children who -frankly- didn't look tall enough to even RIDE anything at that park. They could've been <5 years old, for all i know and THEY were MORE PUMPED than I WAS.
I'm just saying, there are exceptions.

The beautiful thing about Monsters Unchained is that it will feel like a right of passage for many kids. That’s a major joy for me in this attraction existing.

There's going to be some things in Dark Universe which push on comfort zones, especially a broody nighttime atmosphere. I think Monsters will definitely do it and for a few they'll never ride again and that's okay.

On another note, now that the AAs in Monsters Unchained have proved to be worth the hype, I'd really like Universal to give Imhotep an update with the same tech. And the warriors in the treasure room while their at it.

One of my most vivid childhood memories of going to theme parks as a child was being with my brother and cousins, all aged between 8-12, and freaking out about buiding up the courage to go into alien encounter, and we all absolutely loved it. There’s a market for kids who want to experience scary things. The most important thing is whether they can actually handle it without an angry parent run over to guest services to complain. My mother also made me watch noghtmare on elm street at 7 years old so ymmv lol.

Ya'know, one problem I'd had with the sequels is I felt they were too bright and cartoony to be able to scare 5+ year olds anymore, a good metric for approachable spookiness, but anecdotally if it still works on 2 year olds then I guess not all was lost :nervous:

...maybe by the time the LM expansion is done he'll be able to handle them :ghost:

Not to turn this into a LM series discussion thread, but the first game had an incredibly distinct style that perfectly toed the line between creepy and funny.

IMO the second game eradicated that with the angular art style and completely changing the gameplay structure, and the third game was a great middle ground and great game but is still missing a lot of what makes me personally love the first game.

I really hope if the LM land gets built, they use the first game as the basis. The mansion is easily the most iconic, and having the 22 distinct portrait ghosts running around would be perfect for a shooter ride. Plus, the idea someone above mentioned of putting a painting filter over your ride photo is too great to pass up.

Yeah, I put napkins in my sisters shoes to make her an inch taller at 4 years old so she could ride, California Screamin, Montezoomas Revenge and Ghostrider. She loved them all.

When she was 3 she rode space mountain 3 times her first visit, Thunder, Matterhorn, so I figured she could handle it.

I was 14 and we had a single mom, I didn’t wanna ride everything alone.

Kind of a weird one but I’m so very curious

The Statue of Liberty head on Spider-Man scares the sh*t out of me and I can’t even look at the FJ dragon, everything else in the parks is fine with me, I’m very excited for this ride and can’t wait to see it, based on this is there anything that I might absolutely hate on this ride?

do you have a phobia of large statues? I do I think. giant statues freak me out. giant heads. I used to be scared of the giant basketball player in citywalk

Yeah I normally don’t get spooked but I remember thinking oof I did not like that.

Funnily enough, another example I have from the UK is the ending of Blackpool Pleasure Beach’s Wallace and Gromit ride. The ride ends with a Wererabbit jumpscare that totally got my butt, lol.

Has anyone noticed if the windmill on Burning Blade has been on during preview so far? The interior is so cool!

I cannot recommend the specialty mead enough.
