I fully expect it to be similar to Kilimanjaro Safari as far as the path/track.

This would suggest they have moved away from the Dynamic Attractions (or similar) trackless all-terrain ride system in favor of a guide rail system. It will probably be more reliable but possibly at the significant expense of aesthetics and imaginary peril.

For people who were concerned about how this attraction would look as the centerpiece of Frontierland, visible from all around, at least with a trackless system it would look more natural and impressive seeing the vehicles cruising all over the hills...and vey advanced for a theme park. Now it could have a more conventional Autopia-ish look.

This is all just speculation, but they released the imagery for a reason, and maybe to manage expectations.

Yeah, functionally it's the right way to go. It also opens the possibility of some "mud drifting" rotation to the vehicle if the cars had a center pivot mount. Unlikely, but could really add to the feel.

Ideally they visually conceal the guide rail by giving the whole roadbed a rutted, furrowed dirt track look (in sculpted and stained concrete), so the guide rail is camouflaged and not too noticeable from a distance or even as noticeable to passengers.

There's no way this is opening soon, right? Seems like if they changed the ride system and they're still talking about figuring out the ride profile it isn't coming as soon as we thought?

The guided rail system makes a lot more sense than that Dynamic attractions idea.

It’s still unique for a Car attraction for the WDW.

I’m sorry but is this not just a slightly bumpier version of Tomorrowland Speedway with more seats per vehicle and cars that look like Cars?

If they don’t make it an RSR-clone of sorts, they’re going to seriously regret it.

The setting and place making is completely different though.

Speedway is a really old rusty attraction that wouldn’t even compare to something that’s brand new.

I’m extremely intrigued and hopeful for this idea, but I’m also cautious.

Why do I get the feeling this thing is delayed? They changed the ride system, seem to be still figuring out the ride path, and construction start is still ????.

The angle seems to be off road bumps and terrain at a low speed + 30 mph off road racing with hills/rough terrain, VS tracked racing at RSR. I can see how it could work and I wish WDI luck.

Interestingly, the Imagineers riding in these off-road vehicles don't look like they're having much fun. The person in the back seat kind of looks miserable. They all look kind of pensive and uncomfortable.

At the :11-:13 point I notice all four (helmeted) heads swinging side to side in unison...and I'm wondering if this is going to feel great for people's necks?

In the video he says they're doing these field trips to find what is fun, and what is not fun. My guess is faster, smoother, swooping up-and-down sand hills in dune-buggies style movement would offer more "WHOO-HOO!" fun. Hopefully they go and give that a try and compare to the rocky all-terrain stuff.

It was a short video, but this stood out to me as well. I could see revised concept art in the future with a "well, we tested our original idea and it was boring" justification.

A notable insider on WDWMagic stated that the Dynamic system wasn’t very practical months ago when they first announced this project.

He couldn’t believe they were stilly trying to pursue it.

When Disney presented the Magic Kingdom Cars attraction, for whatever people's response was about losing the Rivers of America and putting "cars with eyeballs" in Frontierland, the ambition of the attraction was undeniable. Look at the Cars up high on that mountain and imagine careening down the sides of the peak to get to the level we see down below, in the foreground!

So it's interesting to see the real-world dirt-track mockups they are creating where the elevation changes are significantly less dramatic. (As far as the terrain, the mockups look more similar to Casey Jr. Circus Train than the concept art.)

How will they reconcile promise, vision, expectations, and reality? Will they still build a landmark mountain if all they need is a hilly Tomorrowland Speedway? And if so, I wonder if that will change all the anticipated thematic and sightline impacts -- for better or worse -- in Frontierland.

Of course. Dynamic showed it off years ago and there's been no developments on it. Considering this is the company that brought us the VFX coaster are we shocked? I just don't think the technology is there yet for such a trackless ride vehicle.
