Wait ... Rob Zombie's Munsters is still a thing, right? As like a dramedy or something? I swear I saw make-up tests on Twitter.

Zombie has an existing relationship with the event. May be stretching the definition of a "big" IP but it's been around for decades with Grandpa and Eddie milking their fame, certainly horror-adjacent, and bound to be polarizing. And not necessarily as kid-exclusive as Scooby or some of the other speculated IPs would be.

ETA: according to Wikipedia, 2022 release (no date) in theaters ... and on NBC-Universal owned Peacock. Making a lot more sense now.

I feel like people above 20 just aren't going to be familiar with whatever it is. I had never heard of Billie before the HHN spec.

Scooby Doo is the best guess I've seen, some smoke / rationale:

1. A 'Velma' show is coming soon to HBO Max that is targeted at an older audience
2. There was just a reunion / anniversary show on the CW last Halloween
3. Would sell merchandise, the villian line that Funko makes are very popular

4. Characters are already in the park
5. Fits in with recent funhouses like Beetlejuice and Ghostbusters

Parsing through all the information, here's my best guesses in order of likelihood

1. Ghostbusters: Afterlife
2. Knives Out
3. Scooby Doo (wishful thinking)
4. Squid Game (only this low because of Legacy)
5. Harry Potter (surprised this hasn't been mentioned, maybe it's a no-go with the rights, but it would be hugely popular)

I hate to poo-poo on speculation, but some of the guesses here really are something.

I mean…Knives Out, people?

I’ve been told Squid Game is not happening. Could be right, could be wrong, but I wouldn’t put too much stock into it.

Knives Out would only work if it's actively being worked on WITH Rian Johnson and various cast members are directly on. And I'm not talking on just a small scale--I'm talking This is The End level of including multiple actors in.

It'd be very weird, very meta and no-where near what I consider to be a Halloween Horror Nights IP.

Which is why, if Rian would be involved to set the stage for the story, my body would be ready.

Knives Out, CHUCKY, and Scream and Halloween for IP.
It’s just themed to people who use Knives.

If anything knowing whatever IP this is would be divisive, the mixed reception to Knives Out here honestly makes me believe it more!

I’ve not seen knives out but how could that be a house? What kind of jump scares? And the whole point of that film is figuring out who the killer is. Cant really have that mystery in a house

Here is what we know from Rookie about the IP:

- The IP is popular with the general public and horror-adjacent. That pretty much knocks out “cult classic” and anime. This is something that Universal believes is a big enough IP that can headline despite not being obvious horror.
- It’s not a music artist or musical act.
- The HHN fandom will likely respond to the IP by vocally saying it doesn’t belong in a similar way they reacted to Eilish.

I’m also confident, based on stuff I’ve been told from others, that the IP is a TV show and/or movie. While that doesn’t eliminate all video games, it does eliminate most of them (and the popular enough to occur despite not being “horror” will likely eliminate most other video game options).

Assuming we can take all of these clues at face value, there’s actually not as many options as it would appear at first glance. Of those options, we can likely start taking some off the table to actually narrow things down.

I'm going to put Gremlins back in the ring here. Reasons?

-It is popular with the general public and horror adjacent (I know some folks still consider it a "cult classic" but people know Gremlins and it's horror adjacent in that it's horror comedy.)
-Not a music artist or musical act.
-IP is a TV show and/or movie: Two movies and there's an animated TV series on Netflix...plus given HHN's relationship with Netflix, this checks out, even if it's not a new series to promote, it still seems like a win in that it's classic and still relevant/well liked.

Not to be too spoiler heavy but you can make the scare a major kill. If they’re creative with the storyline a murder mystery house sounds fun, also, doesn’t need to be just 1 kill in the house frankly. I’m sure there is a creative way to pull it off.
