I know they aren't for everyone..but glad we are getting another good Saw Films after like ten years (Saw 6 was good but the finale really does suck besides the finale scene)

I kind of..like the direction we're going in, especially from this trailer. It seemingly harkens back more towards the old school trilogy, as a murder-mystery more than a torture-porn film. I'm also curious to see how Rock handles horror, as he's seemingly playing it fully straight here.

I don't mind the crazy traps...just make the story kinda interesting or fit the "crime/sin" the person did

Saw 1 and 2 are fun films, and honestly kinda peaked there 3/4 are very connected and 3 is fine but 4 is only good because of the ending and how it connects to 3. 5/7 are trash films and 6 had some interesting ideas but never fully committed to the live audience thing like the trailers made you believe was happening

I think Rock did great in this seasons Fargo. Which was a straight dramatic role.

I'm just really curious if the hinted at political commentary is going to have any teeth whatsoever. The internal industry chatter is that the movie is way more daring than the later SAW films, and it did come from a Chris Rock story pitch - but I'm wary that everything inevitably got sanded down.

As a rule, I think comedians tend to be naturally good at horror, as both require a similar empathy and ability to put yourself in the shoes of another - or, as King put it, "it only stops being funny when it starts being you."

I wouldn't worry. Rock is truly one of those who has what they call "eff-you" money. If he had something to say, it got said, I have no doubt.

They also inherently understand setups and punchlines. Horror and comedy both operate on suspense and buildup followed by a cathartic release - which is part of why horror comedies tend to work when the material is there.

I apparently missed the news that Bousman was directing. His Saw films are my favorites (but I'm also biased cause I was a Repo stan)

I don't have high hopes for this one considering they really are going with the premise that there's a Jigsaw copycat killer going around. That voice doesn't do it for me, sadly.
