Universal already opened a headlining attraction the same year that Rise opened. The point isn’t comparison, it’s “Why doesn’t this ride do everything that Rise does?” It’s unrealistic.

Agreed on that specific front, their two different rides trying to accomplish different things, MK was never going to be a story telling experience.

But when saying why do we compare the companies rides in general, I mean as I said, it’s almost natural. Not even a competition but again, the 2 major theme park companies. MK was supposed to be open 1/2 a year ago when Rise was still within like 6 months of opening so again, kinda easy to compare when the companies are opening 2 of their most ambitious attractions ever.

Comparing is fine. Expecting one to be an "answer" to another is just setting yourself up.

When I ment "answer", I didn't mean literally a ride like Rise. I ment a ride of a similar "scale", Universal's next big hakuna in their newest immersive land. Does that make sense? It wouldn't literally be an answer to their attraction. That wouldn't make any sense.

I'm not going to go around and compare the Beauty and the Beast attraction to Secret Life of Pets or Pandora to whatever.

Just in this specific context, I felt like both companies were trying to out do each other with their massive IPs lands that they've been working on for years. SWGE did fully open 6-7 months earlier from SNW's hypothetical opening (HAH), but I do feel these two lands were somewhat indirectly competing.

So therefore, with comparing SWGE and SNW just for scope, not actual content, that's where the Mario Kart and Rise comparison (in terms of scope) came into play. And judging by what I've seen all over the internet, I wasn't alone on that.

But as the news rolled out, I realized this attraction is steering into a completely different direction than I was expecting.

The ride is going to be great (it wouldn't be in Hollywood right now if that were the case, Universal isn't dumb). Its using AR for the entire duration for crying out loud. That's insane and technological marvel (still nervous about that but that's not important). You're talking to someone who puts Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway on a pedestal (I thinkI like it more than Rise tbh). I I followed the rumors and construction for that more than Mario Kart. And I definitely wasn't comparing that to anything.

Anyway, I'm going to take a legitimate break from this site for a bit.

...I'm even more confused now.

Mario Kart is going to be a big, massive ride. Maybe it doesn't have AAs like it was initially rumored to, but I don't see that diminishing the size and scope of the ride.

We're going to jump into a another rabbit hole and I feel I'm come across as bratty, so let's just leave it this: "Oh, I wasn't expecting that".

I come here to ecaspe from my life temporarily but this is starting to feel like another chore, haha.

AR is very cool, and if used well it can be very immersive and exciting. I just hope Universal doesn’t overuse it. I’d love for it to stay exclusive to this ride.

It can turn gimmicky real quick otherwise.

I'm going to be real. This ride is sounding more and more what I feared this would be: Heavy reliance on AR. I don't think it's going to be a dud by any means, but my expectations have been tempered a lot. Huge disappointment to not have an AA Bowser or Mario in book.

Tbh I think you’re just getting yourself worked up over nothing, I really don’t think anyone here has been making things difficult for you but it’s hard to discuss a ride with claims against it that are not even valid since we have notning to base the ride off of, so saying things like “Ugh this isn’t Rise like I thought” brings negativity to the boards that isn’t needed since the ride isn’t out yet (reviews of rides like this would be welcomed if we’d seen any of it), but since the ride isn’t opened and we have no footage past the queue, the arguments just come off as complaining. I’d really just wait discussing what your opinion of the ride is vs your expectations, those are different but I think you’re communicating your expectations in a way that are more like you’ve ridden the thing.

No no, I'm making things difficult for myself and others. That's what I ment by "chore". You guys are fine, and that's why I'm departing. I'm not "fine".

I apologize Joe and the the other moderators. I've been a total rain on the parade that hasn't even started yet. Its been weeks of this.

You don’t need to leave though, there is plenty out there to talk about the land itself too although the obvious elephant in the room is MK.

Theme park projects are developed years in advance. They spent 6 years to bring Mario Kart to life. If it's an answer to anything, the question was "how can we print money?"

I get the impression people think Universal and Disney care about each other way more than they actually do

I guess the cause for angst by some is that it shouldn't be that hard for a company of Universal's stature to make some heavily practical rides, when they used to all the time--MIB, Jaws, ET, JPRA, Popeye, Earthquake/Disaster, Twister, etc. Even Disney up to this point has PREDOMINANTLY made heavily practical rides (DHS is definitely getting screenz heavy, Epcot definitely could too...MK and DAK are heavily practical though--for the most part there's a sense of variety, for all of Disney's flaws). IOA for the moment is just right but if they do the exact same thing to JPRA that they did in Hollywood, that's when I feel it becomes a problem there as well.

I guess it's a good indicator for SNW, however, when the only thing that I've felt anything negative about is pretty much the only thing we haven't actually seen yet. :)

But you like *have* to use screens on Mario Kart

I don't understand why people would be bothered by their presence

Universal's 'magnum opus' ride is mostly screen based

I expected *some* digital effects but hoped they'd be primarily supplemental (which is the impression I got from Stop's video about the ride).

The thing with screenz: two to four screen based attractions is hunky dory. Over five is the point where it becomes way too much IMO. (I pretend Transformers isn't there to get full enjoyment from Spidey.)

But yeah, I can give some benefit of the doubt when everything we've actually seen looks top quality.

Universal makes an outdoor ride with absolutely no screens: This is lame, I can see the stick that Koopa Troopa is on. Why is it so short? This is boring.

Universal makes an immersive next gen interactive shooter ride: This is lame, why aren't there any animatronics. Why don't they make rides with animatronics like Disney does?

I agree with you on the first part. Yoshi was exactly what I wanted it to be! :)
