I'm not saying that's an easy pill to swallow, but it's the case.

I also think your ignoring how many small business are being affected which also hurts long term.

If we had guidance sure but the people against opening seem to very much be ignoring the lack of leadership, there is NO clear answers why is that? Why not say if cases are here this can open and how it can open.
Just pretend for ten seconds your being affects by the government, you are requiring masks, are willing to do things outside and have done everything in your power to make it safe and some rich guy who is not affected by this is like "no don't think I can risk it...and won't tell you how you could open or when"

I'm not ignoring that at all. Things are extraordinarily bad, and there are relatively few good answers here.

The problem is that there was a blueprint to a successful middle ground, it just wasn't followed. To me the problem was/is twofold (one part government, one part population):

1. Almost every state opened up way too early, undercutting the guidelines of the CDC/White House task force on the metrics on when and how to re-open for each phase, before the virus was better under control.
2. The volume of people who refuse to abide by the guidelines on mask wearing, social distancing, size of gatherings and where etc.

If the above 2 elements were more stringently followed you could have had better outcome on both fronts by now.

I mean up here in Canada things were taken slowly to get the virus heavily under control first, and then each re-opening phase had strong/stringent guidelines that were mostly followed. Also, 90%+ of the population are wearing masks and generally following the personal guidelines. Sure there are new surges happening up here again, and people are losing their sh*t with the recent case increases, but to put it in perspective we have risen from a positivity rate of 0.5% to just a hair over 1% in our province. California by contrast has only been able to get the positivity rate below 5% for the first time over the last month. Florida although getting better still has a positivity rate over 10%, and new hotspots like Wisconsin and others are over 20%.

My issue with the “economy vs health” / “open vs lock-down” arguments (the names are intentionally broad shorthand—I know they’re more nuanced), is that resources exists to mitigate the hardships caused by closures and lockdowns. The government (broadly) could and should have financially supported those with a financial hardship through however long the lockdown needed to be. Behavioral/emotional health counseling could have been supported to address those depressed by everything going on. Those resources are obtainable. Always have. The resource that ISN’T readily obtainable is the vaccine.

The problem is that, instead of a massive, nation-wide cry for the existing resources that could have made an extended shutdown tenable, a large contingent has argued to ignore what’s available and wait for the resource that’s taking 18 months.

The solution(s) have always been there. But people tend argue for what’s more personally convenient than what may be more broadly appropriate.

The funniest comments are the ones that say the government should let people choose and they act responsibly. There's too many Karen's and Ken's to trust people's health to them acting responsable.

Not really, how does staying in lockdown stop the issues I've listed?

If the Federal Government is the only answer you all know that is not going to happen so its a false answer to the question. Even if Biden gets in and does what you guys what thats 4 months from now and far too late to save these businesses

We need real solutions for the world we live in not the world we should live in. It's also funny because clearly most people here arn't affected by the issue so they are like we should do nothing..sure if your lively hood was on the line you'd see it differently. Opening Disneyland would not even solve everything but its still a step that could help a lot of people and also generate taxes so we make enough taxes not to go into the red.

From the OC Register--the guidelines will be released this week, presumably tomorrow in the next update by Gavin Newsom.

www.ocregister.com

California to issue theme park reopening guidelines this week, state officials say

California theme parks closed in mid-March amid the coronavirus outbreak in the U.S. and remain shuttered while they await guidelines for safely reopening from the state.

You literally have no idea what people's situation are. I can tell you I have a direct family member who had a theme park dream job who lost it a month+ *after* the Florida parks opened. So please, get off your high horse

I agree it's silly to keep DL closed at this point, but it's far from a magic bullet.

My livelihood WAS on the line, and it ended. I would respectfully suggest that you make sure that you "clearly" know what you're talking about before speaking for others, because you've guessed wrong, both in my case, and I suspect (though do not claim to " clearly" know) the case of others here.

So your glad they ended your job? You think its better for you right now?

I have to ask because I don't understand how anyone could lose a job and say its for the best..unless you did not like the job.

It really not a high horse just the facts what many are saying is in some other world that doesn't exist we live in a world where the Government can't or wont help.

Of course opening Disneyland (and Universal and other parks) wont fix everything but still will save thousands of jobs and hundreds of businesses. Unless we have evidence theme parks are the big causes of the Covid spreading I think opening is the only thing we can do, unless the State Government wants to help out which they are unwilling or unable.

What do you expect people to talk about? Theme parks? That's just wishful thinking at this point
