Walt introduced the Weenie.
Universal made it Weenie-er.

I would put the caveat that it seems larger than other icons because of how easily visible it is from I-Drive and how small a plot of land its on. Spaceship Earth and Cindy's Castle are almost as tall, they are on a much larger plot of land though so they don't seem as large as they are due to the size and scope of the parks they are in.

I do think this is one of the biggest park icon's in any park though. Probably only Storybook Castle at Shanghai DL can out weenie this weenie.

The picture that Scott posted also creates an illusion with the distant high zoom, with icons nearer and VB distant... the zoom flattens everything out making everything appear closer than they are. It's a great photo.

I'd say it's a really good park icon, but to me Spaceship Earth will remain my favorite. Cinderella's Castle is obviously more iconic for Disney than that though. This volcano will be a great center piece.

I hope they plant this in very heavily as right now it just looks like Wet'n Wild moved. Ugly as sin. Your landscape engineer is in Georgia or Colorado or something incongruous like that. I have it book marked, but don't have the energy to look it up right now.

Yeah, that's been my thoughts all along since I saw that the slides would be exposed instead of hidden/themed like Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon.

Don't get me wrong, Universal has done a lot right here with Krakatau, the in-park restaurant (as it would seem), TapuTapu, etc, but the park needs A LOT of landscaping done to it.

Geeez, posting when I have had a few drinks. "Your landscape engineer" should have been "The landscape engineer". :saywhat:

Kohola Reef Restaurant & Social Club?

Social Club being the part that really sticks out to me.

there are a number of restaurants in south Florida that are going with the "social club" marketing. It's basically saying that it's more than a restaurant, it's a place you could hang out for a while and watch TV with your friends. In other words its an upscale sports bar.

Thanks for the explanation. It's going to be hard to shake the pre-conceived notions for me though. It also pops in the image of Youth Clubs

We were already planning to hit Universal in June, so Volano Bay is great timing. Anyone heard about daily attendence caps? Also, can we assume you can buy tickets to hop all three parks?

like I said, just marketing. The majority of folks will probably eat and leave. Of course, I could be wrong, but I doubt it would be some exclusive place.

Here is a "social" bar in Las Olas I've been too....it's basically designed for you to "hang out" at. not just go for dinner.

That's some truly great interior design going on there. Looks like a great place to hang out.
