I find it hilarious when people in the UK say that the thunder and lightning is scary here. I don't even know what you what call it.

We (at least I) find it scary over here.. Too many time you hear of people getting killed by lightning because they didn't seek cover quickly enough. As soon as I hear the sirens/thunder I'm heading inside.

That's not always safe either. I had a lightening fireball come right through my dining area French doors, about 10 feet from where I was sitting, curved and got sucked right into the electrical system, and then exploded, shaking the entire house. $15, 000 worth of damage 16 years ago. The soffitt and facia in the back of the house had, what looked like, bullet holes through it's entirety. And a big flume of smoke rose over the house. I watched that fireball coming at me. It looked like a Star Trek battle shot from the Enterprise.

We saw the Horror Makeup Show while the storm was going on. Thunder seemed to happen at perfect times and they worked it into the show.:)

I'm hanging on whose maple syrup is best. Are you going to give us an answer or dance around the question? :)

Teebin needs to earn his way. No slack for special interest insiders. He's clearly biased in favor of Maine, the Gateway to French speaking Canada.

Hulk was down for many hours today due to weather. They opened up the line before testing was complete. That way they got right back to work just in time for night rides. The ride was then running while the time boards showed weather delay all the way til closing. It is a mean machine at night.

Finally got on today. Count me in the disappointed train, but all was not lost.

The Good:
1. The lockers are a huge upgrade. It felt so refreshing to open and close them with the ease of a swipe without having to remember your locker number (even though I did anyway).
2. The queue appearance definitely seems a little more in fashion with what a modern Marvel facility would look like. The Tesla (?) tubes were hypnotic to watch.
3. I absolutely loved the pulsating bass throughout the queue and during the launch.
4. There were no issues with roughness for me (and I'm pretty wimpy when it comes to coasters). It felt smooth as can be.

The Average:
1. The launch is so-so. Yeah, it was kind of neat, but didn't really seem to do much and certainly isn't nearly as exciting as the previous version.
2. I couldn't hear the on-board audio over everyone else screaming, so it doesn't really feel fair for me to judge it one way or the other. Maybe next time.

The Ugly:
1. The queue videos are a serious downgrade from what was there before. They're too short, repetitive, and worst of all, boring! I seriously think this could give Rip Ride Rockit a run for it's money in worst queue videos. The 90's cartoon version was far, far, far more interesting to watch.
2. Whatever AC was pumped into the queue was clearly not enough for the tightly crowded building.
3. Agreed with all the story criticisms. What's even more disheartening for me is that I avoided this thread for the past couple of weeks because I remembered Universal promising enhancements to the storyline and wanted to avoid spoilers. Where was Ross? Scratch that, where's the big guy himself?! I love ya Universal, but swing and a miss on that respect.

Overall, it's still the great coaster we've all come to love, but considering what was promised, I felt a little cheated at the end.

No lawsuits. No hatred. Everyone knows exactly what they can use and quite frankly on the Disney side, they're more than happy about the free money.

I almost wonder if Marvel (Disney) specifically didn't or wouldn't approve more/better upgrades for the queue experience. While they have to abide by the contract, they also don't want to have the competition outshine them, especially when they are about to embark on Marvel themed attractions in their California parks. When you look at in comparison for the theme elements of ToT as GotG, they may have wanted to keep it simpler so their own creation looks better.

Despite being owned by Disney, Marvel still operates as an independent company with their own separate licensing deals. I'm sure there's some mucking around going on as they do share legal teams now but overall it's a friendly relationship between Marvel and UO, as it always has been.

As long as Perlmutter is CEO of Marvel then the relationship with Universal is in good standing. He's incredibly grateful to Universal for taking a chance on Marvel back when they were owned by Toy Biz and in the were in the throes of bankruptcy. Marvel (and Perlmutter & Arad) wouldn't be where they are now without those mid-late 90s licensing agreements that are still biting them in the ass today (Fox).

I don't think Universal has to get anything approved by Disney unless its related to the movies. Universal does have to get things approved by Marvel (yes, owned by Disney but still operates separately) under the following provisions taken directly from the Universal/Marvel contract:

VI. MISCELLANEOUS LEGAL
B. Marvel will reasonably cooperate in making information, artwork, archive material, key personnel, etc. available to MCA in order that MCA can creatively develop THE MARVEL UNIVERSE and exploit its rights hereunder. MCA will reimburse Marvel for its reasonable costs in this regard, including time of non-executive personnel and their reasonable travel expense.

C. Whenever Marvel has “reasonable” rights for rejection of approval hereunder, the basic criteria to be used by Marvel may include inconsistency with (i) basic story line, (ii) the powers, (iii) basic personality traits, (iv) physical appearance (including clothing or costume), and/or (v) living habitat or environment relating to such character as portrayed in Marvel’s exploitation of such character in comic books or other products for the particular time period being depicted by MCA.

I think the queue was designed just Universal wanted it to be under their budget. Whether the queue lived up to one's expectations is their own opinion. It did for me, others it did not.

BTW - I highly suggest for all those interested in the Marvel/Universal relationship to read the full contract filed under the SEC website: Marvel Agreement between MCA Inc. and Marvel Entertainment Group

I've read it over a few times, it's pretty fascinating what you have to think of (from both sides) to put in the contract so either side doesn't get screwed.
