Pirates did just fine.. but it's not Cars. Sorry. No boy is sleeping in their Pirates bed in their Pirates sheets and playing with their Pirates toys and eating off a Pirates plate and drinking out of their Pirates sippy. Cars is just on another level. Cars' merchandise sales dictated the sequel and the land and whatever more there is to come of Cars. Not the story.

The problem with pirates is that it's a fad. Boys are always fickle. One year they may want to be ninjas, the next pirates, and the year after astronauts. There is, however, several constants. Superpowers & cars.

Even though I'm not a big fan of the franchise (I did enjoy the first movie), the fact at the end of the day, is that it's a car that so happens to have a eyes.

I will never understand the hatred for the first movie. It's entertaining. It's not a fine work of art, like Up. But it's a fun movie. You can crap on the second one all you want, it deserves it. But the money and popularity is there.

The Cars characters will fade eventually, but the ride will thrive because as BriMan said, little boys have always and will always love cars. Cars are pretty much the Hot Wheels of this generation. Boys don't love them because Cars is a good movie, they love it because it's cars.

And at least they did this one right, unlike the new Toy Story land.

As the Cars movies fade it would be very easy for the cars area to also get a simple makeover and become more of the idea of what it is supposed to represent anyway. The old Route 66 of California Americana. With family operated gas stations and tourist traps.

Cars reminds me that at the end of the day Pixar is a company, and occasionally companies need franchises that pay the bills and what is beautiful, genius, and timeless always isn't the most profitable.

I was under the impression that Buena Vista street was already semi-open? Also: I believe the restaurant inside Carthay is already taking reservations.

I don't see why it wouldn't. I think these pictures are a couple of days old though.

Oh it will be ready alright, what your seeing in those photos is a LARGE amount of money being thrown down to complete this very soon so they can have a couple more "final walks" before the media gets in there.

This is pretty much correct. The most endearing thing about the film was that it focused on Route 66, which fits perfect in California Adventure theme park. The movie was definitely the waekest Pixar film, but that doesnt make a lick of difference to most kids. Go watch some of those straight to video Disney sequel releases if you want to see real garbage. Cars biggest failure was that it basically copied the story of Doc Hollywood. Most kids have never seen that film.

Like everyone else said..the merchandise is ridiculous. It's everywhere. They needed a whole new land just to hold it all.

Here's a roundup of recent Disney Parks Blog posts pertaining to DCA:

Beginning June 18, Disneyland Resort Hotel Guests Get More Time to Play

i8WEnggQKPsWf.jpg

The Happiest Place on Earth is about to get happier – and beginning with arrivals on June 18, 2012, guests staying at a Disneyland Resort hotel can take advantage of Extra Magic Hour* – early admission to either Disneyland park or Disney California Adventure park – every day of their stay (with valid theme park admission and active hotel room key card).

Extra Magic Hour will allow registered Disneyland Resort hotel guests admission into select attractions at Disneyland park on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and Disney California Adventure park on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, before that park opens to the general public.

This is just one of the many benefits of staying at a Disneyland Resort hotel. Explore the others here, and book your stay now here, and see for yourself why the “Happiest Place on Earth Just Got Happier!”

*Check disneyland.com for schedule of when each park offers Extra Magic Hour. Each registered hotel guest (ages 3 and older) must have a valid theme park ticket and active hotel room key card. To enhance the Extra Magic Hour experience, it is strongly recommended that guests arrive at least one hour and 15 minutes prior to regular park opening. Applicable Theme Park, days and times of operation and all other elements including, but not limited to, operation of attractions, entertainment, stores, restaurants and appearances of characters may vary and are subject to change without notice. Subject to capacity, cancellation and other restrictions.

First Look: Carthay Circle Theatre at Disney California Adventure Park

i0VNP3q1rbTDG.jpg

This morning, Disney California Adventure park guests were greeted with a long-awaited sight: the walls that have surrounded Carthay Circle Theatre as it has risen from the south end of Buena Vista Street have finally come down! Paul Hiffmeyer was there, and has brought us the image above, showing the new park icon as guests saw it this morning. Beautiful, right?

Keep checking the Disney Parks Blog to see what else will be revealed at Disney California Adventure park as we get closer to the June 15 Grand Reopening!

Disney California Adventure Park Will Have Plenty of Character This Summer

When it’s officially reopened on June 15, Disney California Adventure park will feature even more Disney than ever before, with our famous cast of characters making special appearances in delightful new entertainment offerings.

iS2riYBiNGweV.jpg

Down on Buena Vista Street, it’s the 1920s and 1930s, and you may run into those young upstarts, Chip ‘n’ Dale, who are looking pretty snazzy in spiffy period outfits. Goofy’s got a plaid suit that’s the “cat’s pajamas,” while a new fella named Mickey Mouse has just arrived in town, hoping to make his dreams come true just like his pal, Walt Disney. He might even join the Red Car News Boys for a song and get discovered in the process.

In Hollywood Land, you can kick it Disney-style as “Dancin’ with Disney” takes over Stage 17, inviting you to join some of your favorite characters in a fun-filled, interactive party. From 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. each day this summer, you can step inside for music videos, trivia and surprise character appearances. You never know who might show up!

Over at Paradise Park, the inimitable Goofy becomes maestro extraordinaire, as he dons his topcoat and tails to lead an invisible orchestra during several daily mini-concerts. As he conducts, the fountains of Paradise Bay begin to “dance” to the music, providing dramatic – and often comic – interpretations of the compositions.

iZh0MgJm2lG6o.jpg

Of course, on a visit to the all-new Cars Land, you may just cross paths with two of Radiator Springs’ most famous residents, Lightning McQueen and Mater. Throughout the day, these best pals will be driving through town to the Cozy Cone Motel to make a few new friends.

With all this, plus the return of the Pixar Play Parade and continuing favorites like “Phineas & Ferb’s Rockin’ Rollin’ Dance Party,” “Minnie’s Fly Girls Charter Airline” and Wilderness Explorers Dug and Russell at Redwood Creek Challenge Trail, Disney California Adventure park is shaping up to be a Disney character fan’s paradise!

Lightning McQueen and Mater Come Home to Cars Land at Disney California Adventure Park

If you were photographing two of the most famous residents of Radiator Springs, what location in Cars Land would you choose? What if you didn’t have to choose only one?

For the next few days, I’ll be sharing new photos of Lightning McQueen and Mater inside Cars Land – assuming I can keep up on foot.

imGFTrnrZJoT2.jpg

These two seemed to know their way around, so I followed them right to the center of it all, on Route 66. This sure looks familiar, doesn’t it?

Remember, you’ll be able to meet them in person at the Cozy Cone Motel beginning June 15. Until then, check back here for more photos of these two pals inside Cars Land.

More of Lightning McQueen and Mater In Cars Land at Disney California Adventure Park

iS4dU2wgd9IKc.jpg

Continuing my Cars Land road trip with Lightning and Mater, I caught up with them over by Radiator Springs Racers. This stretch of road has one of the best views of Ornament Valley – and it’s a great place to set a spell and watch some racing.

ibanda5YO48FA8.jpg

Then I caught up with Mater outside Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree where I think he had hoped to find a hidden Mickey, but apparently he never saw one. Oh well. Keep looking, Mater.

Lastly, this is a bit about ticket price increases :

Disneyland Resort Ticket Price Update

iEKFLZxz0RUgO.jpg

As we have done in the past, we wanted to give our loyal Disney Parks Blog readers a heads-up that ticket prices at the Disneyland Resort will be increasing, starting on May 20. This summer is one of the most anticipated times in the resort’s history, and a visit to the Disneyland Resort has never been a better value. In the past few years alone, we’ve added new world-class attractions, such as The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure, “World of Color” and Star Tours: The Adventures Continue. Now, with the expansion of Disney California Adventure park, including the 12-acre Cars Land, Buena Vista Street and the Carthay Circle Restaurant, almost complete, there are even more reasons to visit.

And this summer, both parks will open each day at 8 a.m. and offer increased entertainment, giving you and your family more time to stay and play. At Disney California Adventure park, we’re adding an additional showing of “Aladdin – a Musical Spectacular” and Pixar Play Parade will be presented up to twice daily. At Disneyland park, you’ll find more shows and characters at Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree and increased performances at the Tomorrowland Terrace every day of the week, and the singing sensation “Voices of Liberty” performing at the Main Street Opera House.

We’re sharing the details here on the ticket prices, which also include increases to Disneyland Resort Annual Passports. Annual Passholders recognize that their investment pays for itself after just a few visits. Our California-based Annual Passholders have the added benefit and flexibility of a monthly payment program. This year, we’ll continue to offer unique passholder-exclusive entertainment and experiences, along with 10-20% discounts on select food and merchandise. As an example, you already know that Annual Passholders were invited to special viewings to celebrate the 20th anniversary of “Fantasmic!” And later this summer, Passholders also will have early access to the parks through a new Annual Passholder Early Entry program – just for them. Details on this program were announced earlier this week here.

There are other ways to save when you visit. The popular 1-Day Park Hopper Ticket gives guests access to both parks on the same day, or if you are planning on playing with us longer, multi-day tickets also offer a variety of options for you to save on your California vacation. All updated pricing can be found here. The information will also be available at http://disneyland.disney.go.com/tickets on May 20.

And MiceChat made this easy to understand table comparing the resort's old and new prices:

NEW FOUNTAIN PICS from Buena Vista Street

"The walls around the now fountain Centerpiece on Buena Vista Street in front of the Carthay Circle Theater restaurant came down today. What was revealed was a bold, very details preview of what the rest of Buena Vista Street will look like once the park relaunches on June 15th."

Fountain is great. I'm still "meh" on the Carthay Circle, but the rest of Buena Vista Street is great.

it's a backdrop. kinda like the one at universal. It looks bad because the weather was bad when these pictures were taken.
