I think the black square on the left is a screen and I think there will have to be a fair amount of screens regardless, as you can’t really do the elevator concept without it.

Looks to me like they're in the process of applying the (faux?) tile pattern seen on the other walls.

From what I've seen from Epic Universe screens are only used for:
- extending scene's/backgrounds
- if practical isn't an option

I mean, not really? The majority of the screens are extending backgrounds amid predominantly practical sets and animatronics. The major characters that aren’t practical (primarily the Bowser finale) logically make sense as projections/screens because 1) it ensures the character will never go down or be inoperable, and 2) likely aligns with Nintendo’s desire to interact with these characters through screens because that’s how people have ALWAYS interacted with them.

The AR aspect is not the same as passively watching screens, regardless of how many fans want to categorize them as such.

That would be a very strange way for Nintendo to see things.

To me, that's all the more reason to do the absolute maximum amount physically as possible.

Totally disagree, actually. How fun does the DK animatronic look on Mine Cart? It’s not bad by any means, but these are FAST moving characters. Many people have used them in Smash bros, you can’t make an AA replicate that. Potter should offer perfect mix here.
