It was bought in 2002, Vivendi was the owner of Universal Studios. Is this the same time they were buying up the Epic Land the first time around??
a multitude of bad decisions were made at that time, like selling EpicIt was bought in 2002, Vivendi was the owner of Universal Studios.
In 2004 NBC completed its $5.4 billion purchase of Vivendi Universal Entertainment. I guess the start of this transition was earlier and Vivendi didn't want to start the investment in Germany. NBC didn't want to continue to project and sold the land.
Current situation in GB is (thankfully) very different.

I had a great recent trip to discovery cove and seaworld christmas/aquatica. Blackstone invested a lot and then just bailed when things didnt go how they wanted. Such a weird time for the parks. Harry potter being its own piece of history. Had they not got cold feet on everything they may have made a ton of money. In any case it was still a great weekend that prob would have never happened without blackstone making investments.I think that was Blackstone who sold the land. I’m sure they still had control at the time.
Weird it’s not listed under NBCUniversal like the others, and the dns is only running through a domain selling company not NBC servers, at least not currently. So… it seems like Universal Studios Great Britain wasn’t the only one out there. NBCU revived a domain from those years you’re just talking about: “Universal Studios España”.

I grew up going to this park every year during the 00's through early 10's. I then started travelling to Orlando each year so missed around 10 years, returning in Oct of 2021 - and it was definitely a shock going back. I adore this park, I love the layout and theming of the different lands, however it's become very run down and deffo needs a lot of TLC. Food was abysmal to the point of being inedible. The whole park would need a facelift and standards raised exponentially, but I would love if Universal were to take over and do exactly that. I think it's one of the most beautiful parks in the world ( Mediterrania is just stunning) and I personally love the rides there, so would love to see it to return to how it was 10-20 years ago.I think I visited PortAventura in possibly 2002/2003. I can’t find any old photos to confirm which year, so I’m not sure but I think it was still Universal owned at the time.
I remember that other than the obvious language barrier it was a superb park. My at the time girlfriend had never been to Orlando or LA Universal Parks or any Disney Parks and was blown away by the attention to detail compared to some UK parks at the time like Thorpe Park or Alton Towers.
That being said it was 20 years ago. I don’t know if anyone on here has been recently? Could it be as good inside as current Universal Parks if they reinvested?

No, but Margariteville really likes UniversalSorry, I don’t get it. Is Margaritaville buying Portaventura? It could be a great resolution.
