Universal Brand Development jumps four spots from No. 11 in 2016 to No. 7 this year, following its acquisition of DreamWorks Animation in 2016. The group also saw growth within its other divisions including Universal Pictures, Illumination Entertainment and NBCUniversal. Universal Brand Development is responsible for licensing out Universal properties to toy companies, etc. What does this mean? We most likely are going to see DreamWorks Animaton in the future park as its a merchandise giant as well as more TV properties as NBCUniversal IPs were selling well in the market. Exactly what is unknown for now but at the Licensing expo May 23-25 we should more clarification for what IPs Universal is pursuing and looking to push hard into the market.

As I look at the hulk refurb forum, I was wondering if u guys think Uni will build another large outdoor thrill coaster. Any opinions on this?

There is an appropriate thread for this, as of here.

Wasnt sure what thread to put this in but the film rights to James Bond are up for grabs and Universal is in the running. Wonder what they could do with that IP in the parks

They had plans for Bond that later changed into Waterworld.

Maybe something to revisit in the near future? Given of course they acquire the rights. Would be interested in seeing a 007 themed park project with Comcast level funding.

Be interesting to know what the Theme Park rights situation is worldwide. Paramount Park in the UK is being touted having 007 too.

problem with this is pretty much all theme parks are getting away from stunt shows.Even water world which has won many awards is on its final countdown.

Man, I hope that happens now because that'd be perfect. Recognizable IP, fitting location (heck, it'd fit into London AND World Expo), replacing what is basically pure crap, different type of the attraction that USF doesn't currently have...

Waterworld just recieved a massive renovation in 2014, and upgraded some of the attraction for Hollywood in it's 3 month refurbishment.

It's also something that is incredibly successful. Even with the film tanked, the show itself has spawned two extra versions in Singapore and Osaka, and is one of the highest ranked things for Hollywood.

Plus, there have been a good amount of people that I have seen, wanting WW to come to Orlando, and that it isn't impossible.

The bidding is for just 1 movie. The rights stay where they are. That said, Universal could obtain the James Bond license for their theme parks if they aren't anywhere else. I'd love to see that stunt show.

The rights are for 1 movie to begin with, then if they do a good job on the movie they will then be given an option to take on the franchise.

Things to look out for if you watch NBC shows/Universal produced shows, you can also tell IPs they are about to push by the amount of advertising for certain IPs in the background. Example in the latest episode of NBC's show "Superstore", they kept putting Curious George merchandise in the background throughout the entire episode along with minions. It was extremely subtle but something to look out for.
