Why doesn't Uni do something like Extra Magic Hours for late nights?

Because historically they’ve been around residential areas.

How does HHN fit into that?

Mazes/Houses don’t generate noise like an outdoor rollercoaster, would be my guess.

I actually don’t know for sure about the HHN protocol, but if you go to an Orlando Informer meet-up, many rides close early due to noise ordinances.

I'm pretty sure most rides were open during HHN.

Hulk and Dueling Dragons had to close early when the event ran in Islands of Adventure.

Always found it odd that UOR is required to shut things down early when the Orlando Starflyer operates to 2AM on a nightly basis and is roughly the same distance away from residential areas/apartments.

Maybe Manta is pushing it lol, but it's a similar ride with ups and downs

Are you thinking Mako, the B&M hyper? Manta is the flying coaster.

Yeah, I always mess those 2 up. Mantas unload sucks but love the ride.
Also, some hype i was hearing upped my expectations. Solid coater, just not tops. I rode Velocicoaster this morning, then green and yellow in the afternoon, all front row. I stand by Velocicoaster being better. Also listening and talking to fellow rides it's about 3 to 1 Velocicoaster.
I also agree with Alicia about audio, if Velocicoaster had music it would be very very hard to top

I was surprised to see IOA open longer than EU, but it makes me wonder:

Is capacity limited at EU to the extent that they expect more guests at IOA (at least in this first block, where single-day tickets were not available)?

Does operations need a 12-hour turnaround for rides like Monsters and Ministry to give them a chance at operating?

Might be different zoning permits, despite the distance similarities

I recall that Universal pulled a trick play to get around much of the noise ordinances when they opened USF, and now they're grandfathered in at the main resort area . (from Jay Stein's interview in JayBangs) . They probably can get away with more noise and times than they attempt, but may just be trying to keep good community relations, and keep down the costs of staying open late.

Perhaps they close at 9 because it’s the first week(s) the park is open to GP and they’re planning for late night tweaks/fixes?

I have an awful time believing they’d make this park as pretty as it is at night and then never have it open at night… I mean..Cedar Point is not very pretty and it consistently is open until 10 or later. Uni can do it

USF and IOA are very pretty nighttime parks as well. IOA especially, shines at night.

I agree that it should be open until 10pm. I'm wondering if they're worried about uptime/nightly maintenance for the top rides.

The best part about OI meetups is being able to explore the parks at night. Food & short lines is cool and all, but late night hours are what gets me to buy the tickets. Also being able to do Pteranodon Flyers.

Typically the coasters & some indoor rides have to be "clear of guests" by midnight or 12:30 (per OI). That said, this past February meetup had Hagrid's & Velocicoaster extended for a bit. Maybe 1 AM IIRC? I think OI got a lot of feedback about Hagrid's closing early into the event (sometimes at 11, depending on the line) and was able to keep it open a smidge more. Worked out really well.

I can't tell you how many people in the OI facebook group ask (and ask...and ask) about an Epic meetup. I'm sure as soon as they're able to do it, they'll try for one. Dunno how far into the future that'd be.

Hopefully as time passes and things get more ironed out, EU can stay open to 10PM.

I actually wouldn't mind if they only left Celestial Park open after 9pm. Do the nighttime fountain show at that time and keep the restaurants and shops open until at least 10pm.

They could have opened the park at 10am like Volcano Bay and push back closing to 10pm. I was expecting that to be the case when previews first started at that time and it seemed it was going that way when they began extending hours later in the day every week.

Seeing IOA close at 10pm and not Epic when it's specifically built for nighttime views is strange.
