Universal Studios Europe is dead and per Universal Leadership will NOT happen end of. Universal will be focusing mainly on expanding in the Asian market.

I think that China would be the first logical opportunity. There is additional opportunity in Japan. Right where we are in Osaka, the government has created a man-made island, more than one, but one called Yumeshima. They bid for and got the World's Fair rights for 2025. So they are going to host the World's Fair there. And we are in discussions with them about how we can perhaps support them in that. They also are likely to be one of three cities in Japan that get awarded the rights to do an integrated resort which would include gaming and the most important part is entertainment. We would not participate in any gaming but we could see how that could be something we could participate in. So I think Asia would be the logical place to look for expansion first. It would not be South America. It would not be North America. And highly unlikely any place in Europe.

Knocks on wood

Been a while since this thread was used. And while I did bring up the Yokohama thread, as it's more of an uncertainty..allow me to..gander, on something.

It's seeming that a mystery studio is in play for operating a park, on a plot of land at Yokohama, Japan. The studio would be a major US studio, and the land would sit at around 242 hectares in total--as the park itself would be situated on former US Military Base land, that has since been reclaimed by Japan. To bring on the subject, it may be..worthwhile in looking into the idea, that Universal may be opting to expand up north of Japan, closer to Tokyo with Yokohama as their next pad.

Now, how can it be so certain? Well..it's easy once things are more put in place--on the main 3. Universal, Disney, and Warner Brothers/Warner Media.

This park would be handled while not in operations, with Sotesu Holdings. Now while that may not be as much of a discussion, it could probably negate the possibility of Disney wanting to expand..because of their ties to Oriental Land Company, otherwise known for most of us, as OLC. It's unlikely they'd expand, especially right now given Disney's financial circumstances, alongside the continuing expansion of Tokyo Disney Resort, thanks in part to projects already underway for that area.

Now then, what about Warner Bros? It'd likely be a similar situation, as Warner Bros. Movie World Abu Dhabi is not operated by them--but is by a third party (the same group responsible for Yas Waterworld and Ferrari World). Not to mention..they are actually kind of working on something already near Tokyo, at a former park, called Toshimaen. That, will be a version of the Warner Bros. Studio Tour in the UK, and will be featuring elements from the Wizarding World series.

...So then, let's come back to Universal and Comcast--shall we?

Osaka, is operated by them. Not to mention, Universal has been seemingly wanting to continue growth and expansion to Asian markets. As-well, we could take into account that Universal is seemingly in the possibility of advancing, on expansions with Universal Orlando (Epic Universe) and Universal Hollywood (SNW, and probably the Evolution Plan in some stage).

And in the case of Universal..they may already have something of their own card. Something, they proposed to a location..of Okinawa.

Okinawa, was planned to of been a park that was more original based, and to celebrate the country of Japan, as opposed to being a normal studio park. And who's to say..they may just reuse what they can, while adding perhaps, some additional ideas from other concepts lying about, to make the R&D of a second park in Japan..remarkably easy.

It's a thought to be had. And there is certainly a lot of potential, if Universal is indeed the one in the holding..

For the link proper, I'd highly recommend checking the Variety report from yesterday--as I'll also be bringing Yahoo Japan's piece on the subject.

Bringing this thread back if people are interested. Made a visual guide as to what I believe are the next key areas for UDE's future growth. Not suggesting that all of these locations will be built/utilized.

Split it between the more traditional park/resort concept, Universal Kids and Horror Unleashed...

Traditional Parks and Resorts - large population capable of supporting the park during slower seasons (aka APs), but also features an existing tourism base
  • The likely two candidates are India or Dubai. This would be a smaller park in scale, mainly indoors and feature a mix of classic Universal properties and 3rd party IPs more familiar in the area. Could be paired with the Unleashed concept as well + CityWalk.
  • Didn't put it on the map since I'm mainly interested in non-existing resorts, but a 2nd gate at Japan is Universal's likely next project after UK.

Universal Kids - has to be far from an existing large resort property
  • North East - Chicago or Philadelphia
  • Brazil - we know Brazilians love Orlando, a Universal Kids project works nicely as a teaser for the larger resorts
  • Europe - Spain (Madrid) or Germany (Munich/Frankfurt)
  • China - Guangzhou likely, maybe Shanghai (away from Beijing resort, close to Hong Kong)
  • South Korea - large population with lots of potential 3rd party media available
  • Seattle - would benefit from a growing metro area and tourism from cruising
  • Australia - Sydney

Horror Unleashed - works in a region with lots of tourism looking for a few hours of entertainment
  • Likely Abu Dhabi/Dubai if they believe a full scale park can't work here
  • Japan - Not sure

I'm only speculating on the existing concepts UDE have come up with. I'm sure they have some other exciting concepts in the works to surprise us with. (Like a more immersive Meow Wolf/Unleashed experience with non-horror IPs or themed resorts in popular locales like Punta Cana or Cancun).

Let me know what you think!

The Pacific Northwest is ripe to explore the option of a campus that'd have Universal Kids, in the style of a Indoor/Outdoor park.

With the exclusion of Wild Waves in Federal Way, Oaks in Portland and the Vancouver and Washington Fairs; there is no true family park in the Northwest that could contest or get in the way of UDX. No-one would be able to compete when considering what Universal Kids could offer too; especially if Universal tries to make it more robust to allow 365 ops.

Feel like the Northwest is a no brainer, in comparison to how packed the NE Corridor is for NA.

Outside of NA, Australia being a site for a joint of Universal Kids + Horror Unleashed feels like the best play for the East.

Being a midwesterner, I'd love to see something in Chicago, but the need for it to be an entirely indoor experience would probably take it off the list (for something significant).

Agree - not to mention that the Seattle area is home to some of the largest corporations in the world with well paid employees.

Yup. Depending on how they'd approach it, and where it'd be; there could even be a chance to work with Sound-Transit to make sure you have easy accessibility through light rail and/or sounder.

Puyallup comes to mind due to the amount of farmland around it. If UDX was to look anywhere; that area comes to mind first.

Midwest in Chicago would make sense too for Kids; but I think the area that should be first for UDX is that of the Northwest. For as much as it does rain up here; that hasn't stopped Universal before in dealing and being prepared for weather conditions like that (Beijing and Bedford in particular)

I just Love Universal is trying new things and going into new areas

They are also being smart and its not a one size fits all, they are going into each market with something that should work for it

100%

This was Disney's biggest issue a few years back. They didn't want to continue building new parks/resorts because they only wanted to reproduce Disney World's success (aka Paris). They only built the cheaply done Hong Kong resort because it was an introduction to doing business with China.

Disney's other ventures into non-theme parks were done cheap and hastily with the belief that the Disney name/brand alone justified higher prices (Disney Quest being an "upscale" Dave and Busters, ESPN Zone being an upscale sports bar, etc.)

I think there's a market for a Disney version of the Universal Kids project in international locations (mainly Brazil, India, Australia). I'm surprised Disney hasn't expanded on the Aulani concept in the Caribbean though, Punta Cana is a great family destination and would be an instant success if they place a resort there.

Disney I think has soooo many IPs to play with and they just don't

A Star Wars Restaurant outside of CA/FL would do very well. Indiana Jones has great promise as well

Heck even in DTD like where is the Bob's Burger?

But I mean if Disney doesn't add a mini park in the middle of US then its there lost, because Universal will take Disney lunch if they aren't looking

Universal is starting to build its own Nostalgia, How to Train your Dragon remake shows this and unlike the Disney remakes....it was reviewed very well by most people and if they can get things into more states that make people favor the Universal brand it will lead to long time customers and people who want to see your movies, have your app and go to the bigger parks.

Not sure if I'm off but Mexico City might be a good place for a new Universal Horror Unleashed.
