I had to get plane tickets
So either its open when I go in June or I just find things to do in Dallas
But its mid march and no Hotel dates, so thats fun.
As others mentioned- the original Six Flags over Texas was here and has some fun rides with the new Giga coaster being here as well. In the greater area (if part of a larger trip)- the Fort Worth stockyards are a must as well.
But locally in Frisco and its surrounding areas, there are some great spots as well.
Frisco- The Star (if you’re a Dallas Cowboys fan) is really cool- that’s their practice facility. A really nice Omni overlooks it.
If you like golf, PGA headquarters is also right down the road from Universal which will host the PGA Championship annually at its Fields East course starting in 2027. It will only get harder to play at afterwards.
I’m not sure where you’re from but shopping is obviously a huge part of Dallas culture. Whereas every other mall in DFW and America at large is dead or dying- Stonebriar mall in Frisco is still killing it with people and kids galore inside. Gotta love rich kids and their love for the 80s keeping it alive. Theres an IKEA also if you’ve never been to one and ever wanted to see one.
One city over- in McKinney (maybe 20 mins) is downtown McKinney which is the best “small town Texas” downtown feel you will find in our area. Great and walkable.
Food-wise- can’t come to Texas without eating BBQ. Most BBQ will be the best you’ve had anywhere else outside of Texas or Tennessee- but Hutchins BBQ is my recommendation. It’s the best in our area and pretty much all of DFW. Outside of San Antonio or Austin (3-5 hrs away) it’s going to be your best bet. One in Frisco and one in McKinney. You’re welcome in advance.
Also we have some good Tex Mex places. Mi Cocina is a DFW staple too and if you like margs they are known for their Mambo Taxis which have been copied all over the country (a frozen marg with sangria swirl). There are better Tex Mex spots but this is always consistent and a staple so I always recommend it.
Wet salsa (not just pico) and smoked brisket are both Texas creations. So make sure to eat one of each.
And if you’ve never been to Texas; we’re super friendly down here. For example- when you go to Hutchins, even though it’ll be packed, they’ll be over the top nice like you’re part of their family. You’ll find that in most places you go.
