Perhaps they didn't want to build The Krusty Krab because of the expectations that come with it. Based on the early concept, The Krusty Krab was going to be a counter-service stand with no interior. This park doesn't appear to have any proper sit-down restaurants, and I can't imagine the food on offer is going to be anything special. They may not want to mislead people into thinking there is a "real Krusty Krab" if they have no intention to meaningfully deliver on that premise.

I don't necessarily think it would not to be a proper sit-down restaurant, I think a normal quick service location with indoor seating would be fine

Also...its Texas is there not a burger joint?

The funny thing is as someone who travels to Texas alot...the food should be good. Like I've rarely had bad food in Texas, so hope most the food is leveled up

All details released for this today, and I just have to say...

Universal has to be trolling at this point, right? A dedicated Spongebob land with NO KRUSTY KRAB?

My GUESS is there’s some larger rights issues with Krusty Krab as they’ve done national food promos before. Or Nick wanted too much money from the food sales.

I worded it poorly, but that is what I meant. I believe all the restaurants at the park are outdoor counter-service, which included the Krusty Krab they had originally planned.

Yeah, I don't think there's any reason to believe this is Universal missing an open-goal opportunity.

That said, I do think building the Krusty Krab in a way that actually satisfies fans is a massive challenge. Best of luck to whoever decides to take this on!

It's kind of like the "Pizza Planet" thing for Disney, albeit on a much larger scale I think.

While I fully acknowledge that I am not the target demographic of this park (not a child and do not have any kids), I'm still finding it really difficult to get excited about this park. It just looks like a collection of flats and off-the-shelf coasters to me with very light theming. I dunno.

Agreed. I'll be curious to see what the price point is for this, because it looks very blah to me at this point.

This basically looks like a Universal version of Sesame Place. We have a Sesame Place near me in Philadelphia, and it's essentially what you said. Flats, off-the-shelf coasters, a show, meet and greets, and a small water park.

It's incredibly popular with families and kids lol

I mean, hey, this is clearly a model that works regionally. If they don't charge too high a premium for the marquee IPs being featured, I could see it working here, too.

The scope is a function of the desired admission price.

I mean I hope it works but also a reminder that Sesame Street in San Diego is closed 9 months out of the year now

I'm not going to crap on it but I think there are some things clearly missing.

If you could not get the rights to the Krusty Krab, to me, I'd moved on to another IP. Its just strange its not there its the most iconic part of the IP out side of the house maybe. Its like Simpsons land with no Krusty Burger but in this case I would assume it would have been better because its in Texas

No Dark rides or walkthrough attractions, Universal now is known for its theming and some of the area's do look nice while others feel like if you were not going to have full on rides then you'd make HP/SNW level of themeing to make up for it

Also no Power Up band games? I mean doesn't have to be Nintendo to have some sort of bands that have fun games to play

No big show, the Puss and Boots one might be the biggest show we are getting?

Anyway, I'm not being negative but I was a kid once and thats why I loved Disneyland because it went insane on theremin, I love USH but we can all agree that they are the best when they match theming with the effects they can pull off

I hope it works out and I think pricing will be key, I just went to the HHN in Vegas and I think it was great but for a Saturday was very light on crowds and have to assume the price is the biggest thing holding that back. So I hope they make this park attractive to families price wise because I want these spin off to work but lets not pretend this is some perfect park either. I think some more money could have been pumped into here and given us

1) A Fully themed Restaurant at the level at something at Epic (for the parents if not the kids but the parents are paying give them somewhere nice to relax and get a good meal)
2) A Dinosaur show where they bring out BIG Dinosaurs and tech kids about them and photo op's after the show
3) A family show like the one at Dreamworks land in Florida allowing them to mix and match characters and also be able to update when needed
4) some sort of walthrough attraction that can eat people but is also fully themed
5) All lands should be fully themed and in nooo way feel like a theme park

Anyway, I am going to check it out and hope if kids really do love it, I am not trying to be negative but I dislike using "kids" as your excuse for things being made cheaper. Walt Disney knew kids are smarter then people release and also knew Disneyland would not work if only made for the kids, you need to make sure parents are having fun as well so they can bond and make life long memories and I hope this park can deliver on that

The fact you called him "Walk Disney" really sums up the whole post. As I said before, this is a cheaper park designed for young families, it's not a full blown theme park. Universal says this, the locals knows, why are fans having such a problem with this?

I wish the locals knew. I live 10 miles from Frisco. People know how much I'm into the parks and when they bring up this place, they STILL thinks we're getting a proper Universal with "Harry Potter land." We started getting ads pushed to us on social lately and I've had two people forward them to me with "lame this is a kids park?" Yeah buddy, I told you that from the start...

Anyways, not like it matters. Expectations people have are just funny.

Can't believe I'm going to bat here, but I think it's fair to wonder if there's an opportunity to create the definitive kids park by delivering some more sophisticated and premium attractions on top of the Sesame Street/Peppa Pig park-style offerings... versus basically just mirroring the scope and finishing of those parks with Universal IPs. Legoland arguably goes a bit further than anything I'm seeing here, for example. With that said, it does look like there are some cute shows/character activations here, so that should help differentiate it.

I understand that this is supposed to be a kid's park, but I was hoping for a little more than a bunch of themed flat rides and a couple of kiddie coasters. I was hoping to at least see one small-scale dark ride...but hey, I'm not the target demographic. I'm sure it will do well.

Then you'd have a significantly more expensive day ticket and at that point folks go "well we'll just go to the regular park then". Sesame starts in the $37 price range, Peppa & Legoland FL start around $30. I worked at Sesame Place, it really is a different scale and scope designed for kids.
