TLOU video game has a big presence on the 18-30 demographic; it was huge when it released and still is…

That’s an excellent point, and that’s just how it is. 80$ maybe for a deluxe edition though.

Also, anyone with some form of education on how to make games can sit down and do just that. With a film you need a literal swarm of people now a days to make it happen. Might take a bit but it’s easier for someone with education and experience on said subject to sit down and make a game by themselves rather than a film. Which makes the market bigger, its works itself out that way.

That’s why it’s so powerful.

that’s just … not true. to make a movie all you need is an iPhone — it’s never been more accessible for a content creator to do their thing. not saying that isn’t true about making games! but it’s the same picture.

What will follow will be accessibility issues. Sure you’re right, you could make a film with an IPHONE by yourself, but trying to get it out there will be hard. Also movies that make money aren’t shot on a IPHONE. Could get lucky at a film festival maybe, and that is a big maybe.

If I made a game, it isn’t super difficult to get it on Steam or Gamejolt (for the time being).
Now I think of it, maybe it is weird that it is this way.

I’ll lay this conversation to rest to avoid beating a dead horse, but it’s much easier to make a game alone of “industry standard” than a film.

After replaying the game this weekend, and revisiting Descendants of Destruction, I can kind of see how they are going to do this house, but I’m still curious. I feel like there may be more hunters than infected and a bloater at the end. I’m a little bummed out that it’s only focusing on Pittsburgh because there are so many cool scenes that they could’ve done, but they have to do the sewers and the hotel basement. I just would’ve loved to see the tunnels in Salt Lake City. That level gave me ptsd and still gives me chills.

If successful, I could see TLOU returning next year to explore more locations.

New horror video game comes out the same time as a new horror movie. Scan the general public and find out which they are more aware of and I would be shocked if it wasn't the film.

I'm not saying it's an underground medium, it's just less engrossed in general pop culture than mainstream films. And I don't think that will ever change.

Genuine question that I don't have the answer to: I agree that the HBO show pushed this house into existence. But what makes a film like Killer Klowns, which is more of a niche B-movie, or Crypt TV, which is a literal YouTube channel, appropriate for modern HHN whereas (pre-HBO show) TLOU, a horror video game series that grossed $1 billion as of 2020, is not?

Killer Klownz was sort of like AWIL and Trick ‘r Treat among others. Simply put, they were IPs that A&D had been fighting for for awhile or thought would fit the vibe of the year well (in the case of Klownz).

I’m with you… video gaming is a huge market, but you also have to consider how it’s apples and oranges comparing how much a movie makes and how much a game makes when the average ticket price for a movie is $10 and a video game will run you $70 now. That’s an extra $60 per person for every single person who buys a game.

And I'll always maintain that as much as I love horror video games, they will always face that uphill battle in terms of content length. There's a world of difference between condensing a 90 minute movie into a few key scenes as opposed to an 8, 10 or even 15 hour video game. Just look at the upcoming TLoU house: it's supposedly featuring a single part of the game (Pittsburgh). I can see the team finding it a lot easier to digest a single section of a YT walk through for that part as opposed to having to digest the entire game in some format.

Sure, you could put the most iconic scenes from a particular game solely into the house one room after the other, but does the design team WANT to do that, especially if they're going out of their way for an IP. Then they're less adaptating a game's visuals and story and more-so just giving you a best of collection. Yes, they've done houses exactly like that but they might feel like they're doing the IP a disservice to boil it down to that.

By focusing on one section of the huge game with TLoU, they're absolutely going to design a much more cohesive, story driven experience as opposed to a collection of scenes with less rhyme and reason.

Gaming has pulled in more money (grossed) then films have for a long time.
Not to mention the industry is estimated five times as big as the film industry.

Cory had the correct answer.

Killer clowns/ trick r treat comes to universal,
Then you can easily show normies the movie. You can show your friends or family the movie
Very easy. Killer clowns was even free to watch on Tubi and Pluto. Literally free on your tv or phone. Extremely easy to watch, to show people. You can even watch it right before coming to the park. The same day.

A game? Even if you watch a YouTube walkthrough ( which I do sometimes) it's like 15 hours and you are watching someone else play the game and make their choices. People don't have to play the game and they can just search on YouTube for the game footage ( or twitch)
But that will still be like 10 hours of footage to see.

So I get why niche movies are easier to have. I get why killer clowns is easy to show people.

If anything it should be Blumhouse that gets more into game movies. Blumhouse making more games movies would help those games come to hhn. A 3 way synergy. Game company- to blumhouse - to HHN

While I agree for some games it's fine (FNAF is easy to do a movie on for example), but for many games, I think TLOU found the answer in doing a series. Because of the extended length of games, the only way to properly tell some of these stories is to do it in a show rather than a movie. TLOU was originally planned to be a movie and Neil backed out multiple times because he didn't like that they were having to leave key story parts out to fit the run time Sony wanted.

I think with most games that people really want to see, a 1.5-2 hour movie is never going to be the ideal way to tell the story of a game that's 8 hours at a minimum in all likelihood with many games far exceeding that. With a 9 episode season, TLOU had about 10+ hours of show and there was STILL parts of the game that had to be left out.

Definitely is easier to show your HHN party a film they haven’t seen rather than making them sit down and play a whole game.

My whole point only was proving that gaming is not as niche as it once was. Though after I have thought about it, it maybe close to but not at this livable moment.

Two properties that could easily come right away are mortal Kombat and Doom.
It just depends on what universal and marketing and creative wants, but doing a mortal Kombat house in the style of RUN: Blood Sweat and Fears could work well and it is extremely famous. The story is simple, it has had movies. Tv shows. Everyone already recognizes it. RUN in 2015 already had elements of it. ( My point being that something like mortal Kombat is easy and recognizable)
I'm not mentioning MK as a favorite property of mine or a wish house of mine, but realistically and practically it would be easy if Uni wanted.

I disagree. Just because there is blood, guts, and gore doesn't mean it's horror or horror adjacent.

MK has some horror elements. My only issue is that the story for the games is all over the place and now they're rebooting the MK universe in-game with MK 1.

It would just be too hard to properly translate.

I’m pretty sure there will be one for both. Last year they really got me cause I only buy one, but bought 3. It’s not an anniversary year, so I’m trying to keep the spending on merch to a minimum lol.

I just remembered that last year we had a Halloween lanyard AND a Studio Screamers lanyard. Fairly certain Monsters will be a part of the Screamers this year.

So my guess is we get a TLOU lanyard and a Studio Screamers lanyard this year.
