I think it's fair to say a significant amount of the general public is flummoxed by this ride, at best.

I'm not sure if that is entirely true. The reception seems to lean a lot more positive with the general public than within the theme park community.

The GA reception seems like: a slightly confused, somewhat tepid thumbs up (from what Ive seen online in non-theme park groups and some some irl testimonies). Kind of a, “Ah uh, okay, what’s the next ride?” Some (like my mother and wife) boderline hate it (wife sees it as poor man’s TS Mania and mother found it overwhelming and cluttered).

Ok that I can definitely agree with, if you’re not paying attention (which it’s really not drilled in your head to) you could be lost lol.

It could use better info in the videos before the ride. Really doesn't tell you much, especially if you're not a Nintendo gamer.

A slow-moving Mario Kart ride never made sense imo. They should've went with the classic "Mario saves Peach from Bowser" or a Super Mario Galaxy dark ride if they didn't have the space to build a proper Mario Kart ride (something closer to Test Track/RSR).

Ironically, it seems that Disney is about to build another ride that will be even closer to what most people were expecting from Mario Kart with the new Cars ride in Magic Kingdom.

Luigi’s Mansion should be gamified the same way and anyone who’s played the arcade game will agree with me on this. Reuse the tech from Mario Kart for AR ghosts but everything else is sets and animatronics.

I disagree with elements of this. We are in total agreement that the Luigi's Mansion arcade game, with its' unique controller and immersive haptic feedback when sucking in coins and ghosts is literally perfect for a theme park attraction and should be brought over 1 to 1.

However, that game itself already exists, and can be played for like, $5 at an arcade? I don't want to see digital versions of these characters in a Luigi's Mansion E-ticket Universal ride. Give me some practical effects, some well put-together vignettes and show scenes, an animatronic Luigi.

If they don't go that direction, I don't think it's too much to ask that the sets feel alive and full without the AR goggles. Throw in some interactable physical props. Make a side table rumble slightly if you point at it for a few seconds. A floating plate that spins faster if you try to suck it in. The absolute minimum is making it feel at least as engaging as the Cat in the Hat dark ride, which currently I don't think Mario Kart without gameplay / AR actually ends up that much better than.

A Luigi's Mansion ride, IMO, should be Universal's equivalent to Haunted Mansion. I know we have Unchained, but I mean as in a ride experience for anyone, with almost exclusively animatronics and Pepper's Ghost effects.

Also, please have it adapt at least some of the 1st game's more ambient/scary atmosphere, not just the more cartoonish style of the 2nd and 3rd game!

i always assumed a Luigi's Mansion ride would be using the Monster's Inc: Ride n Go Seek system where it's about shining a flashlight on lit-up sensors cause...
Awesome Season 3 GIF by The Lonely Island

I don't think the story should be that we have our own poltergust systems, but that we're helping Luigi catch them with his; All we're doing is stunning them for him to suck up. This way we get a ride chock-full of practical effects and animatronics that light up when active, their sensors get shot with a flashlight, and they dim upon being "caught" by Luigi (who is either shown in animatronic form or implied to be with us on the ride itself).

No AR, please. Give us an interactive Haunted Mansion full of practical effects like MiB.
