Six Flags Fright Fest 2025 (Magic Mountain)

I had totally forgotten about this, but totally agree. Twisted Colossus in particular felt like a throwback to a time when Magic Mountain had not just competent, but enthusiastic ride operators. I'd love if that spoke to a new culture beginning to permeate through the park, but I've been hurt before.

It's apparently been four years since I've visited the park, so I probably missed some peaks and valleys, but my overall takeaway is that while the park has a long, long way to go to become the world-class destination they clearly want it to be, it's moving in the right direction, which is sadly more than I can say for Knott's.

(I realized I visited the park when it initially reopened during the peak pandemic, but that's kind of an outlier and doesn't resemble normal ops at all.)

Just watched a vlog on Fright Fest and apparently there's a maze called Pop's Circus inside of the warehouse where Stranger Things was? Or am I making things up in my head? The website never mentioned it and the interior looks like the warehouse and doesn't match any of the other themes listed?

If there is, that's kind of hilarious their website failed to mention it!

So they just randomly decided to just cut Aftermath? I'm all for quality over quantity but that seems kind of odd to me.

It’s the “new” Carnage maze - Pop’s Circus is just in-universe theming.

I think they cut a few mazes in the same way Knott’s did when their lineup was stretched laughably thin. I do think each house, on average, was better than the last time I went in 2019, for whatever that’s worth.

And certainly better staffed than when I went in 2022. I think it's an upgrade.

I wound up going on Sunday due to lack of Dark Harbor or Haunt being on (already did a lot of HHN). It was Fright Fest or Castle Dark lol.

Props to the maze and street talent, they were great and gave it their all. Mazes were solid, a little spare for personnel in places. It was a Sunday night and felt quite low key. It will be interesting to see what direction Fright Fest does in the future; it will be hard to evolve it into a hard ticket separate gate event. And of course, the Six Flags corporate razor gang is always looking to cut costs.

On a side note, Goliath and Twisted Colossus were running great. X2 on the other hand was beyond brutal, even on an inside seat, haven't been on it for years (not since 2017) - that ride could hurt people lol. And I got caught out by the in-station locker being not for free (it's been a while).

You made a very wise choice. Went to Castle Dark a few years ago and it is by far and large the worst theme park haunt I have been to. Fright Fest is HHN Orlando compared to Castle Park. I'm serious. Don't even bother.

Haven't been to Magic Mountain in a hot minute. I think I saw somewhere that the house wristbands were $25. I may decide to check it out for funsies this year.

If you sit in the front row for X2, it's the least painful. And I was also always irritated at the paid lockers at the station for X2, until I realize that if you're just willing to put your items on the floor near the lockers, the staff is okay with that.

A regular wristband is $40. But you can get the FF equivalent of a HHN FFP for only $69! Though I suspect that does not include park admissions... but if you do have a season pass/AP/membership, that's a pretty great deal!

@Rideguy70 I sat in the from row, right inside seat. I'm a fan of X2 and I was surprised how rough it was since I last rode. I think I heard one of the trains was shipped back to S & S I presume for some refurb.

I have never gotten my head slammed as hard as any ride ever in my life as I did on X2 back row outside seat on Monday. I legit almost saw stars, I could see a person a bit older getting a concussion easy.

@Jerroddragon that does not surprise me with X2 (sympathy for the family), I was fighting not get my head pounded in. And this is coming from someone who plays rugby and fights competitively in martial arts, and has a 750 plus coaster count.

I was there on Friday

Mostly rides, scarezones and shows

Zones were mostly staffed

The lantern works well in a few areas like the day of the dead area, the devils triangle, Carnhell. and Carnage area

One of the Sam's around the park worked once...then after that would not move

The top of the Hill can also have a character who can change the color of your lantern but want to note many of the activation's seem to be bubble machines.

I'll go back and see if more work as the event goes on but for now I would say maybe 1/3ish might be working and from a video I saw none in the houses seem to work and TMs will tell you not to use the latern...so maybe there are none in the houses like knotts

Ninja at night is great, but a note the front row can be hard to get...they kept letting flash lanes just go to the front, ZERO communication and took over 5 cars to get on the front row...with like no one in line. So a heads up

Justice League just stopped worked at the last two screens....the TMs as we exited had no idea, lol

Also got on Gold Rusher, took 10ish mins

Margo Ritas show is continuing to evolve the main hosts are either changing up the joke or how they tell their joke, and glad they are being allowed to go off script a little

Lines were low, Saw looked like 30-40ish and Carnage when I saw it had zero lines and Conjuring look like a walk on. I did not go to Trick R treat/the classic other houses areas so did not see

Trick R Treat now has Halloween lights all lite up pn the building and looks nice and you can see them from Saw...so maybe more people will see the house is back there

Glad to see most people going this year are enjoying it

The only thing I could really call them out on is the Lanterns.....I know its year one but the price is high for something that just doesn't work at most stations yet

I hope they get them all going by the end of the event but thats the one thing that feels kind of last minute or they just didn't give a budget to like everything else

Went to fright fest last night

Saw and Carnage had 20+ mins wait at rope drop

Trick R Treat did not open for almost 25 mins after the event started

Walked on Willoughby, Vault 666 and Condemned and Conjuring within 5 mins

Margo Rita Monster Ball is still adding new lines and trying new things which is nice to see, and got to meet the cast after the 9 PM show they were talking photos with guests

Carnage still had a 30-40 mins line by 9ish PM

Trick R Treat replaced the normal Sam with the Sam without his mask, I think this started with the Media light, There is a cool Jack O Lanterns set up with Sam in the Q for Trick R Treat and the lights have been on Trick R Treat since Media weekend, also they added a static were wolf to the house along with more hanging body parts in the house hanging from the ceiling all over the house

Also just a note because of Scary Farm, Six Flags is fine with photos and videos in the house as long as there is not flash so following HHN and Hall-O-scream Rules and mostly you are just with your group most the time in the mazes shouldn't affect most people

Also more Lanterns area's seem to be working or have signs now, I forgot my Lantern and will try it to bring it Thursday and see how many are working.

Yeah I videoed all the mazes without a problem - though I don't stop or do other obnoxious stuff. Got a doozie behind this couple being absolutely terrorized on every scare in Saw.

I went and had a wonderful time

Some of the activations are still not working around the park the Sam in the Q for the Trick R Treat House is not working and the Sam next to Revolution is also not working yet

But many others did work some of the best ones would include the Ice Store in Thunder Bolt Ally (it was added this week to the scarezone), The Gravestone up near Ninja/Willabeys Maze, The Boat and Canon effects in the front of the park at Devils Triangle, and the Clown on a spinning wheel as you enter Carnihell. The Tower also seems to now light up differently if you actvate it near the Tower in the middle of the park

Lines were light, I think Six Flags needs to open the park earlier on these days to have some crowds in before the event starts, I want Thursdays to come back next year and they need to consider ways to get people in the park and I think more hours could helo, Open at 5 PM or earlier if you can not only should more people come in but also we can get the 7 PM opening show as well, it sucks it doesnt happen on Thursdays and while Carnage is in that area with the firetower at 7 PM the opening show is really great and draws large crowds

Anyway went on all houses by 9 PM before the Margo Rita Show (also hit 3 of the mazes twice as well before 9)

Margo Rita Show was great as always some new jokes here and there, glad I have a reason to watch it everytime they seem to be able to adlive a little and Bloody Mary FINALLY won, the youngest daughter always wins when Ive seen it (this is my 5th time). So happy to see Bloody Mary Win once and hope the older daughter can win once as well. Speaking of the Eldest Daughter her Father is Mr Snow over in Thunderblot ally, so some new lore for you. Mr Snow is also running for President against the Queen of Heart (alice in wonderland scarezone) and also They added 3 cars to Thunderbolt Ally along with Mr Snow's Ice Scream Store which for me is the best activation with the Lateran in the park in my humble opinion, it shots out fake snow from the top of the store very fun

Also the Wizard from the Wizard of Oz is now at the scarezone

Trick R Treat has some new Wolves in the forest section, one is where the tv screen werewolf was last year as you walk down one of the hallways. I wont spoil anything but they have found some fun spots for Sam and friends to hide, so worth it to come back and see what has changed since day one which alot has...the Pumpkins and Sam in the Q, the House now all lite up with lights, more actors then ever before, new hiding spots not used and the Anamtronic events work and one got me a scare...I thought it was a real person. Anyway Love Trick R Treat the atmosphere is pure Halloween and for sure it would be in my top houses even compared to some at HHN this year in my opinion. Also they added a wolf to a bed, making it look like the big bad wolf story...lol

Anyway shout out to all the actors, you make this event so much fun and honestly I have just as much fun here as I do at HHN, HHN is the better event by a mile but doesn't mean Fright Fest isn't fun, the actors find some insanily good spots and when your the only one in your area with no one but the actors and you around on most mazes.......hot dam is that not scary at times. Love the event right now because there is nothing like it
