All these comments are making me feel better and better booking this for my HHN trip this year. Also helps that even now, it is cheaper for Sapphire then all the other resorts if I made a booking right now. I am paying $189 a night, and even with AP rates, Dockside is at $196, Surfside is $214, Cabana is $242, and Aventura is $270! Even for a new reservation, Sapphire is at $215 for my dates. Pricing this year is really weird for HHN.

You can't lose at that price. Probably no conventions booked for your dates.

I recall walking back to Cabana from the parks the month before Sapphire opened. The landscaping was a vast mud pit and the pool wasn't installed yet. I thought, no way this opens on time. Well, it did open on time but they had problems registering people and things like that, but that was fairly brief. We were booked into the hotel a couple of months later and by then everything was just about perfect. I remember a nice opening review on Strongwater by @Brian G. that applauded the bar/restaurant. So we went there, I believe three times, and it was just pure perfection. Carlos, the food chef/manager sat down with us and explained his vision for the restaurant, and the most excellent server Maggie gave us the best restaurant service we ever had anywhere. They are both still there. Food was excellent then and still is. We also had the breakfast buffet, sitting on the terrace, at Amatista and it was a very good experience. So, they recuperated from that tough opening month pretty quickly. I still regard it as superior to Royal Pacific, with the exception of not having the Express hotel pass. I've booked there three or four vacations, and even when not staying there we eat at Strongwater and Amatista. Sapphire is the jewel it's named for.

That really was a golden age expansion time. 2016-19 was such a fun time.

I remember just laughing when they decided to retrack Hulk as if they weren't throwing out enough new things for the resort all at once. It really is amazing seeing the 2014 HP give the capital to truly invest resort-wide as a means to bring it to a true contender which lead us to Epic.

I also reserved here as it was cheapest out of the hotels, I was shocked! And that is for two different stays! (Both weekends) Have both stays here for under $200!

Yes, that's an absolute steal. You won't be disappointed!

and I agree with @HHN Maddux - there's just a vibe to it that I can't really explain. Cabana will always be my favorite, but that has more of a "fun" vibe. Sapphire has more of a calming, relaxing vibe.

I spend way too much time on the USO website checking passholder rates - for a 2 Queen room, anything under $200 is a steal that you need to book immediately. Universal is great about cancelling, so at least hold the rate. $240 and above is where I start checking Aventura, or WDW resorts (depending on our itinerary). The $240 doesn't include the crazy parking prices for Loews resorts

Note: This is obviously dependent on when you're going // We usually go in late September and/or late Spring
