The idea of being an HHN house in attraction form sounded exciting at first, but I think eventually re-rideability would suffer because you’d know where the scares are. Creative probably came to the same realization, and I think the way the ride is presented is pretty much perfect when you think about the potential pitfalls they could’ve easily fell in to with this ride.

Mummy-level scary is about what I expected, personally. A few scares but mostly action-packed + a bit of comic relief seems like a good combo for the ride.

I am being EXTRAORDINARILY careful to not read or even get a glimpse of any of these comments. I just have one question, for anyone whose been lucky enough to experience both:

Is this on the same level of Alien Encounter in terms of genuine scariness/intensity, or close to it? No spoilers, just a yes or no please.

We really do need an attraction on the level of Alien Encounter to exist. I want to be close to tears. Then afterwards... be like..

If we ever get something like that again it would have to be in its own venue space (not a theme park) or an up charge in a park and possibly with a waiver. I don't see it ever being something a guest could casually queue up for.

Sadly I think that was a lightning in a bottle situation we're unlikely to see again anytime soon. :(

small tangent, but if down the road DU gets an expansion and it is a Creature ride; then I would not mind at all if it was treated to be a "Alien Encounter" experience. Not asking for it as part of base DU, but that's fine by me.

The overall tone of the ride is not what I was expecting. It is not a horror ride. It is an action/adventure ride that at times is a bit cartoony.

This is unironically the best case scenario. I'd rather have "Baby's first horrors" be in ways that would be enticing for everyone. Not going out of it's way to frighten toddlers, but something that gives a really nice bark and with a little bit of a bite.

Really hoping this comes to other parks; really think having a permament celebration of Universal Monsters is a fantastic choice in the long-game.

It's loooooonnngg overdue. Considering Universal wouldn't exist without the Monsters.

House of Horrors at USH was a step in the right direction (and so was Graveyard Revue/Monster Rock in a way as well). This land & ride(s) should've existed years ago (even if the tech wasn't there yet lol).

If this ride & land would've existed sooner, maybe the Studio wouldn't have fumbled the big screen comeback attempts so badly.

tbh the more I hear of the ride it reminds me of the Van Helsing concepts from pre-Hogsmeade. The difference is in the obvious changes from then to now; but I think a bigger play is that in contrast to Forbidden Journey using the screen based domes as "Transitionaries"; Monsters Unchained doesn't really seem to be relying on that element of transitionaries.

It reminds me more of a mix of Revenge of The Mummy, Forbidden Journey, and Haunted Mansion; especially with what seems to be much more accomodating seating configuration and restraint setups. Hopefully once videos come out we see how that is done properly; but I would love to see Monsters Unchained in Hollywood as it could be somewhat different than what we typically expect from Forbidden Journey.

It pretty much is the Van Helsing ride concept lol.. only with modern day tech & not 2004 animatronics.

This going for an original concept/story was for the best... although i would be curious to know if any Van Helsing is left in this universe (or if Saskia was truly... "THE LAST OF THE VAN HELSINGS!") admit it, you heard the quote in your head lol

Unfortunately my first ride-through broke down in the beginning and ended up being lights-on with the animatronics off. But even then I was blown away and had to try again. When I rode the second time only a few were down.

That said, the ride is absolutely incredible. I think it hits the perfect blend of scariness and fun. It’s kind of unbelievable that this ride, let alone whole land, exists. We’re very lucky to have this. I can go on but most everything I want to say has been said here. I just hope for those that haven’t been on to get the intended experience on their first ride.

And two quick spoilery comments:

There is one in the queue if you try to open the cooler with the body parts in it.

Why isn’t there a plushie of the vampire bat!?

1. You know, I never thought to try opening it but I will next time I go through, thanks!
2. The one in the queue? That's one of my favorite things in the ride because of the nearly flawless 3D effect. I like how they pulled it off to be very convincing.

1. I didn’t do it myself but some people in the queue were messing with it and it got one guy good.
2. Yes! I like his evil laugh.

I want an HHN house (played completely straight unlike Bugs) predominantly featuring the same sort of sensory effects. Might get me to go.

The ride was up and down all day today— when it reopened this afternoon we got on line and it broke down for about a half hour, but we waited it out and got to ride and all the animatronics were working!

I forgot to add— when we rode I noticed we could see the track and other RVs quite clearly when we exited the station. I’ve heard people mention they thought it was “too bright” in the ride, and I have to wonder if that’s a side effect of the downtime with maintenance leaving work lights on at times when they’ve been tinkering and trying to keep things running consistently.

Also, it felt like you spend a LOT of time on your back looking up at things— a little disconcerting, but overall the ride was less nauseating than Forbidden Journey.

Seeing the RV'S is part of the story. Egor sets it up in the preshow. He takes control of your vehicle in the first scene. I did catch this on my first couple times and it made more sense after I did.
