Star Tours is better for sure. But these parks need c-ticket rides. So, GE did it, but at the expense of other attractions!

Primeval Whirl killing people and getting shut down did not help.

Mary Poppins, I'm looking at you. We need you now more than ever.

Had they paired it down to an outdoor tea cup ride behind the Cherry Tree Land facade then sure. But if it was going to be enclosed, have a preshow, and be a whole thing, there's much better things that space can be used for. You can easily do a fairly decent sized busbar type ride in that space. I'd hate to see them spend close to $100M only for it to be an enclosed indoor teacup ride with a preshow. How pointless.

Exactly and yet people were going up for this attraction like it was so innovative. Just because people are desperate for rides doesn’t mean it has to be the lowest common denominator.

You can give it a name, doesn't mean I know who he is. To me it's a weirdo with weird stubbles.

I never seen this R3X character before, and now he’s my Star Tours pilot? Attraction failure.

It's coming out the same day as the Mando movie so it makes sense. Sucks it won't be this year tho

The new mission is opening the same day as the movie, so likely contains locations, characters or situations that tie into the film, (which I suppose could be considered spoilers but more likely just “synergy”).

What’s embarrassing is that this ride opened six years ago with only one mission, and that it took all the way until now for them to develop a single new one, themed around a show that will be almost 7 years old by the time it debuts and hasn’t been popular or well liked since around 2020.

There’s a Mandalorian movie coming out the day this debuts.

This was never a ride that was going to get updates every three years. This isn’t Star Tours — video game development is time consuming and expensive. I’d be shocked if we ever get a third mission, honestly.

Then that's a fault of the ride's design. SR is fun, but doesn't have anywhere near as fun and intense of a motion profile as Star Tours. The game element is cool, but the replayability just isn't there after a few runs. It's pretty repetitive and drab. Star Tours 2.0 added the countless different scenes and endings that all work to keep it fresh and interesting, incorporating all kinds of locations and characters. If they couldn't invest in at least 3 missions from the start, or even 3 over the course of 4-5 years, then they should have chosen a better ride to build to begin with.

Star Tours ran for over 20 years before it was updated with extra scenes.

It was also arguably a significantly better ride than the current iteration of Smugglers Run.

I think all of the video game rides eventually run into that issue, but I’m glad parks have at least made the attempt. It does seem at this point that the only video game ride that has 100% worked out for people is Toy Story Mania.

For what it’s worth, I greatly prefer Smuggler’s Run to Star Tours 2, which I basically never want to ride. I also think that opinion is true for the GP. Two of my friends prefer Smuggler’s Run to Rise, which is INSANE, but I’ll begrudgingly allow them to have that opinion lol.

Hot take but... I prefer this ride over Star Tours imo. Even though it's still screens I think the actual experience is more enjoyable
