Mexican/Spanish Themes of HHN

What do you think about Hollywood’s use of legends from Mexican/Spanish folklore repeatedly starting from 2010. I’ve seen some comments saying HHN Hollywood is overusing them, while some others are concerned about how these legends are “exploited for a “white audience” (never mind that Murdy wouldn’t have done them in the first place if it wasn’t for LA’s Latino presence).

Overused? Most definitely.

Murdy has always seemed sincere about trying to bring new cultures to HHN and I'm glad he's still doing it at a time when other companies have run screaming from the concept. Anyway, I think it's smart because it differentiates the event and helps situate the event in local LA culture (which is also why I think they should try a Korean folk horror house).

I'd still love to see La Catrina get a house and El Chupacabra.. also, I kind of think Noche De Brujas and El Terror De Los Momias would make good houses (You could easily do Momias now that we're not doing Universal Monsters houses anymore, so you don't run the risk of overlapping with a Universal Monsters Mummy house)

Has this been discussed? I'm sure everyone has a take these days, but I haven't seen or heard this debate take much hold on the socials.

Either way, it seems Murdy has been respectful of the culture, considering it's been done for so many years, and even admitted at this past Midsummer Scream that he works closely with colleagues with all sorts of ethnic backgrounds to help create, especially the Latin American-inspired stuff.

I think it's as exploitative as any other horror concept being featured at a for-profit mass-market theme park event, but Murdy seems genuinely interested in the culture and doing it for Angelenos specifically since we make up since a large chunk of the fanbase. I just wish we could get something less generic than doing Monstrous year after year.

I think its cool to learn about other countries legends, but feels like we have been focused on just one for a little long

I would loveee something inspired from Japan, China, Russia...just something not being done

If they want to make money with a Latin area then keep the plaza the same
