Interested to see how the ride experience will actually be. One of the reports I heard said $18 per ride  and then another said that's for a day pass.

The Orlando Eye people have to be freaking out. I mean why pay money to ride a ferris wheel to 400' when you can just go up to the observation tower in this thing and look down at the ferris wheel.

Id still ride both and im sure there will be a ton of people who will be more terrified to ride the coaster than the wheel. I love that I Drive is staring to turn into a mini Vegas with all these attraction starting to pop up

Skyscraper2-jpg.jpg

World's tallest roller coaster 'Skyscraper' officially coming to I-Drive, will open in 2016

ORLANDO, Fla. —It's official! The world's tallest roller coaster is coming to central Florida.

Michael and Bill Kitchen, of US Thrill Rides, made it official on Thursday morning at a news conference on International Drive.

Last week, WESH 2 News reporter Greg Fox broke the news that the coaster was coming to Orange County.

During the announcement, it was revealed that the ride will be known as Skyscraper and will sit inside a $200 million entertainment complex called the SkyPlex.

The ride will last three minutes and reach a maximum speed of 65 mph. Guests will have to be 48 inches tall to ride.

It will accommodate 1,000 riders per hour.

The Skyscraper, which will be 570 feet tall, will have a 55-story glass elevator that will take guests to an observation deck.

It would also be roughly 150 feet taller than the Orlando Eye observation wheel, now under construction along I-Drive just south of Sand Lake Road.

Officials also said there will be retail on property that will be different than what can be found in a traditional mall. A restaurant will also be located on the top of the Skyscraper.

The new attraction is expected to break ground next year and open for guests in 2016.

Hi guys! Just got back from the press conference and have photos & video to process. Look for a post on Orlando Weekly's blog shortly for details, or check my twitter feed @skubersky.

This thing is going to be massive! Don't know how they will handle the extra traffic on Idrive...

I think they will complement each other. People could well spend time and money at both.

I'm still willing to bet this never happens.

I hope your wrong as I really like the look of this, it is certainly something different.

Score another one for Orlando. For some reason when I saw the concept art, I thought this was going in that abandoned mall where the Universal outlet store is/was.

The same thought crossed my mind but the coaster fan in me really hopes this happens.

I also think I read somewhere they are trying to get investors from overseas to help both causes, one to help funding for the project and two if they invest so much into a business with it creating so and so amount of jobs they will legally become USA Citizens (Reel might know the exact law?)

I keep saying the same thing! It's a LOT of money they need to raise to make this happen. I just see them starting and then grinding to a halt before the actual coaster tower goes vertical.

Or the tower gets built and the coaster is never installed.

That'd be a shame. I will book a plane ticket for opening weekend once we get confirmation about an opening date.

Also, here's to hoping this project is successful and convinces the Stratophere in Vegas to build one around their tower.

They're definitely trying to class up I-Drive and I can't blame the city at all. Everything seems to be moving in the direction of 3-4 hour entertainment venues.

Most definitely looking forward to this entire project. Can't wait to ride!

I only wished the coaster had a 500+ ft. drop...
