Great tip I'll for sure keep that in mind when I go on Saturday. Will they let you in early if you show them your scary farm pass/ ticket or will you need regular park admission?

They’ll only let you in when the gates for Haunt open. I’m only here early since I’m a regular Knotts pass holder.

You need a regular day ticket to get in the park. They also clear the whole park before opening, so no stay and scream/early entry like HHN. The Boo-fet does get you early access to specific mazes with that ticket package.

$25 for a platter and $5 for a drink? I can walk down to Portillo’s and go out out for less than that!

But seriously Portillo’s is good. Just ate there. Amazing roast beef dip. T minus an hour and 45 min!

porto's is where the party's at for cheap food on beach, in my opinion!

(but my Chicago-born-and-raised partner would strongly disagree, naturally)

I think we're gonna hit Claim Jumper on Sunday for drinks. I'm saving my food stomach for all the funnel cake I'm gonna eat when I get into the park.

All Season Dining FTW! I already broke even on it and then some so everything until the end of 2024 is free.

BTW, just found out the Prestige Pass gives you 15% off merch. Not as good as 20% for Platinum but better than 10% for Gold.

One more hour. LFG!

My friend who runs a YouTube channel had an extra media pass tonight so, against my better judgment, I am here.

Won't be there until Friday the 13th next month so have been watching live streams. I really like the look of the new mazes. Watched a bit of the hanging, definitely not for the PC crowd.

Gotta say, from the perspective of a monster, even though everyone assumed the lanterns would be an obstruction, they actually work very well to give away when someones coming and make timing their scare extremely easy. I am now all in favor

Wow! Can't wait to go! Glad everyone's enjoying it. One if the rare times I won't watch POV videos because I get so excited for what they bring. Can't wait to go through cinema slasher and I'm glad it's getting great reviews!

I only did the mazes that were new to me (Bloodline 182, The Grimoire, Room 13, Chilling Chambers, and Cinema Slasher) and Mesmer, because I did like it in 2021. Liked it again this time, too.

For the rest, the only one really worth talking about is Cinema Slasher. It’s a smash. Total home run. It has lots of meta elements but also has plenty of originality, too, which isn’t easy to balance. But they pull it off. There’s a scene at the very end (won’t spoil) that’s just phenomenal. 10/10 material.

Second favorite was probably Chilling Chambers. I liked the character (shout out Monte Revolta) but the concept was a bit lost on me. This is one where you just kinda sit back and enjoy the ride.

Room 13 borrows a lot — and I mean A LOT — from HHN’s Weeknd maze. Very derivative. Grimoire was disjointed. Apparently there’s supposed to be a pre-show and then some other narrative interludes, but we didn’t get any of that, so I had no idea what was happening. Bloodline was dull. Steampunk is such a tired aesthetic, and we went full stretches without seeing any actors, which struck me as extremely strange given it was media night and there were cameras out.

Speaking of scare actors, the KSF philosophy is one of the things that turns me off the most here. At HHN, the actors don’t vocalize or engage in conservation with you, but here, they’re screaming, taking pictures with people, etc. The thing is, whenever a monster or ghost or whatever vocalizes in a movie or show, there’s usually something done on the actor’s voice to create an effect that makes it sound otherworldly and, ya know, scary.

But at KSF, it’s just dudes screaming, which isn’t even remotely scary — it’s just annoying. And they try to cover that up by saying spooky things, or growling or something, but it just does not work. I can only take so many bearded clowns following me and screaming stuff like “I wanna eat your brains” in a dorky voice before I’ve had enough. It’s like being trapped in a flash mob.

Ghost Town and the sliders are always cool and there was a guy in The Gauntlet who was crab-walking like a pro. But other than that, the scare zones are mostly dumb.

The crowd was pretty small, which was good. When we did Bloodline, every house in that area was a walk-on, including Bloodline, and it was only 10:30pm. That probably won’t stick, but it was nice. If I had any interest in doing those houses, I would have been stoked.

All in all a very mid evening that I’m glad I got to experience for free.

this has always been my biggest beef with scary farm. the scaring philosophy both in the scare zones and the mazes is just not very scary.

Couldn’t agree more. Scare actors are great when their presence does the scaring — the way they occupy a space and use costuming and non-verbal cues to generate atmosphere. The experience is 100% ruined when scare actors opens their mouths and sound like they’re screaming at a Taco Bell employee for getting their order wrong.

And honestly, some of them take it too far. It’s no coincide that this event has a long history of so many instances of altercations between guests and actors. And obviously a lot of that can be blamed on the guests and their lack of sobriety, and it’s also not like that kinda thing is exclusive to KSF, but I think the reason it seems to happen so frequently there has a lot to do with actors crossing lines they shouldn’t.

this was what I found so revolutionary about horror nights' scaring technique (in houses) back in the late 2000s. blocking simple, repeatable scares (yes, even boo holes!) makes the performer's job simpler and generates more reliable scares. while philosophically I like that knott's scary farm performers have the ability to make characters their own, I think that runs up against their own acting ability.

I watched video's of the new houses. The Slash house looks so much fun

I doubt I make it this year but looking at the prices, I think next year I might go. The express pass isn't the bad on Sundays like 145 for all the houses/rides with a Fast lane...sounds like a great deal

From some of these reviews, sounds like another regular ol year of Scary Farm. Dark Entities being in anyone's top 5 is astounding, which says a lot lol I've always said, the person directly behind you or in front of you could have a vastly different experience in a single maze depending on cast performance. This could be both great or bad. IMO, it's mostly bad. Especially when a brand new maze has no staff in it and then randomly the event's oldest maze is overflowing with talent. These idiosyncrasies make or break the experience as a whole.

I was debating Fast Lane for this year, but considering the quality sounds same as usual, maybe I'll fare better just paying as little as possible. Speaking of which...

That price is JUST for the Fast Lane and does not include park admission. The best deal is the All Inclusive, which includes admission, Fast Lane, parking and a meal, and for whatever reason, is cheaper than just having Admission+Fast Lane.
