Tonight is the final night of the 2024 season, and with that we also say goodbye to Wax Works and Bloodline 1842.

Let’s chat about the upcoming 2025 season!

My guess is that Origins and Chilling Chambers will be the next 2 mazes to be phased out. Origins is beloved, but it's been around the longest, so it is probably time for something new in its place. Chilling Chambers seems decently well-liked, but it has less purpose to the event when removed from the context of the anniversary. Mesmer is technically the second oldest house now, but I think it will survive to see another year due to its continued popularity, and its thematic connection to the recently improved CarnEVIL scare zone.

I’d also deposit Chambers, but I think Room 13s time is due. I rarely see people talk about that and the area it’s with nowadays.

They aren't going to ditch two generally well-liked houses that are only two years old each. Grimoire feels like the bigger target.

Taking a look at the mazes by the year they debuted... (Not including the couple houses which are on the way out, nor the two newest ones this year since I feel they're staying.)

2019: Origins: The Curse of Calico
2021: Mesmer: Sideshow of the Mind
2022: Grimoire
2023: Cinema Slasher, Chilling Chambers, Room 13

While there can be a plethora of reasons which mazes leave and which ones stay, one has to feel Origins has to be in contention of having its final year as it's clearly the oldest maze right now. It's been very well beloved, which could be a factor on it lasting more than Wax Works which debuted the same year, but I think it's time has come.

As for Mesmer which is the next oldest, it depends. It was very well received in 2021, but the following years have been a tad hit or miss. But for what it's worth, I've been seeing a lot of good reception this year, so I wouldn't be surprised if it stayed a bit longer.

With Grimoire, well it doesn't have the issues that Bloodlines had, hence why it's not having an early exit like Bloodlines. I can see it sticking around a bit more, but that's a prime location for some big concepts/big mazes, so the Grimoire could go if the creative team has something big in mind.

Now for Cinemas Slasher and Chilling Chambers, both have gotten solid reception for the two years they've been here, so I see zero reason they're going anytime soon. Room 13 on the other hand, not quite as well received. If a maze from 2023 were to go, that one feels the most likely.

I completely agree.

Origins is still a hit with guests and regulars, but it is definitely showing it's age. Six years is a great run, and when it does retire it will go down as one of the best. If I had to pick between Grimoire and Mesmer, I'd probably go with Grimoire being next to go. It has great moments but I personally think Mesmer is a stronger story and has at least another two seasons in it.

I see no reason why any of the 2023 mazes would be leaving so soon.

Hot take: Grimoire is overrated and should be the next maze to go. The queue is long but the maze is short. The story isn’t terrible but it’s not executed well enough to stay longer. There’s better stories to tell in that location.

From patterns, it's typically 5 years on average, if you captivated a cult following and are REALLY LIKED, you get an extra year like Paranormal Inc. did.
Bloodlines was a mix of year 1 having issues and its following year cutting the gimmick that made the maze feel redundant, so it went out hella early.
just going off of the oldest mazes it would be Origins (year 6 nxyr) and Mesmer (year 5 nxyr) next.
The curveball would be Grimoire since its partner went out but I don't think Mesmer warrants a 6th year.
Maybe 3 retiring next year \_(ツ)_/¯ , we will see in 10 months

Will KSF keep 10 mazes? It’s been 2 years in a row.

Mesmer seems like a good candidate to go based on length of service, and I don't how much it could be changed up in the future. Origins, given how embedded it is into narrative of haunt could survive for a while, it could do with some change ups. Grimoire has it's good points, but the concept is a bit muddled, if 2025 was the last year I wouldn't be surprised. For me, the nostalgia of Chilling Chambers wore off a bit this year, but there's the scope to change up some of the scenes for something different.

I really didn't see any significant change in the returning mazes in 2024, hopefully they lift their game in 2025. And if they don't do an actual show in the theatre, we should riot lol - I get 2024 was a tribute to Elvira, but it felt like a cop out and cheap.

Already looking for frequent flyer award flights for 2025 lol.

Everyone is on a completely different page about the quality of these mazes and that's always been my issue with the mazes at KSF -- everyone has a VASTLY different experience with each of these mazes. Some are saying Mesmer is strong, while I think it's easily the worst of the batch. Some are saying Chilling Chambers has no purpose, while I think it's still freakin' fantastic and has zero reason to go -- it could easily last 6 years and is the EASIEST maze to change up (next to Cinema Slasher). Grimoire still feels fairly fresh and is linked to the story of the event (Grimoire, short? Are you kidding me? It's in the BIGGEST venue of the entire event!). Room 13 is brand freakin new and nowhere near the garbage that was Dark Entities which lasted for far too long, plus people still love Goreing 20s, what are we even going on about?!

Folks, it's between Origins and Mesmer. If we're lucky, they're both gone. I feel like they'd announce a final year for Origins though. Grimoire I wouldn't be totally shocked, but everything else is beyond safe.

Anyway, I'm excited to see what KSF has in store for 2025.

It's absolutely between Origins and Mesmer, and I would not be shocked if it was both. Selfishly, I like Mesmer and how it ties into Carnevil. It's nowhere near my favorite maze of the event, so I'm not married to the idea of it being replaced either. My opinion above was only referring to it being up against Grimoire. I'm sure I'm in the minority there anyway, ha.

As a Halloween Haunt history fan, I would love it if The Chilling Chambers got an update. When they were planning it I wonder if they had some other maze ideas they could plug into those spots, or if they will just run out the clock on the current layout.

I don't think I'd be sad to see Mesmer go. I "get" the concept and the storytelling is solid, but I just don't necessarily love it. There's nothing really scary or unnerving about it to me. I will say that I love the outside actors, though!

I'm actually genuinely surprised to hear there are detractors of Room 13; I think it's a great concept with great theming and a wonderful spooky atmosphere. It's the kind of maze I really enjoy.

I can't speak for the quality of it this year, as I wasn't able to attend the event, but it was easily one of my favorite mazes back in 2023 when it premiered.

Room 13 is easily one of the best mazes KSF has done, definitely at least in the top 20 (at least in 2023).

Yeah, Room 13 feels like a maze where Knott's looked at the location and said, "How can we use this space to its strengths?" There's also undeniable storytelling continuity with Goring 20's and Room 13 and it just works for me on every level.

That's something that they absolutely don't achieve with every maze (and Universal is quite guilty of this as well). To me, there's a massive gulf between designed to fit/utilize a space versus designed to maximize/complement a space. You can almost always tell the difference between the two and this feels like the latter. Granted, Knott's has more of a challenge with this because half of their mazes don't have true dedicated spaces, but sometimes they commit unforced errors. (Hello, Bloodlines.)

Just a heads up. GRIMOIRE is getting active work done to it. Freshly painted support beams & roof work. Along with other random interior things. Doubt it'll improve, but hey at least it's being worked on a month after KSF ended

Also was told the top half of "Widows" facade was covered in black tarp to protect it from the elements. Not sure if they plan to cover all of it though.

And here's the current state of Chilling Chambers
20241211_111546.jpg
Both this & Cinema Slasher can easily stick around for several years if they put in the effort to change up the scenes. It'd be a great way to honor a recently retired maze or one not featured yet. I'd rather see singular mazes get the axe before either of these two "mash-up" mazes

@Wesker69 I really like that idea Cinema Slasher and Chilling Chambers being open palettes to sub in new scenes.

I really liked the sets on Bloodline (the cast did a great job in the maze's last year too), maybe they could tweak the sets for a really cool Gothic maze. The last couple of years the new mazes (2023, 2024) have been great IMO, it will be interesting to see if they can hit another home run with the Waxworks replacement.

Waxworks facade is gone & demolition continues to make way for the 2025 replacement

Was able to notice NEW wood framing on both Widows & Grimoire rooftop ...sorry, no pic due to GhostRider lol

Last but not least, the destruction of Bloodline has commenced. You could hear the saws & drills over by the bathroom in "Gingerbread Lane"
1000037934.jpg
^all the black walls on the side are gone exposing the naked plywood. Facade still stands (for now)
