Disappointed but not surprised that this will likely be mostly cutouts and a quick retheme of the Boo Blaster infrastructure... but at the same time, this is a welcome improvement over the generic offering.

What makes you say that?

I think if they were installing animated figures, they would say that in the press release. I'm sure there will be a handful, which, again, is a welcome improvement. Maybe I'm just cynical with all the Six Flags nonsense going on lately.

It seems to come from a place of love so I’m hopeful.

Oh, it clearly is. I imagine some of the same people who put together the Encore show a few years ago are working on this. I can only hope that they're given the resources to do this right.

Separately, I hope that they're willing to let this be a little scary (while still plenty goofy, as the original was), but the Count Chocula/Kelloggs-style approach to the character renderings have me anticipating something that resembles an outright cartoon.

Scary for who? I was scared of the OG ride when I was a kid and I hardly call that scary NOW. Remember this is located in Camp Snoopy.

I think there's a fairly big difference between this take on Maestro --

And this one --

Much of the original Phantom Theater ultimately skewed comedic (if morbidly so), but like the Haunted Mansion, it permitted the prologue - and in PT's case, its main character - to be a little more foreboding sinister.

It's located in the parks Planet Snoopy kids area. Unless they are going to completely reconfigure the building and bring the entrance off international street, it's not likely to be anything more than creepy on the scary scale.
