I fully understand, but it's not like this first anniversary of his death was a secret. It's not a movie release or the end of a tv show, for god's sake. Thought this would've been an easy layup, but ok.

Unless the Osbourne family specifically asked for it to NOT be announced on this day I see no other reason to not do it. Uni makes some strange decisions.

Solution is from last year: put a lot of stuff in the animal actors courtyard area. Isn’t there a big set up the size of a bus there already?

You would think that the family had to be involved in some of the decisions around announcing his presence. I have to imagine if they really wanted it announced today, Universal would have obliged, right?

Unless there is another party (idk if labels have any play here or who owns the masters) that is dictating timeline. But regardless, I imagine these things are stipulated in contract as part of a partnership with the counterparty(ies).

Plus, the point around marketing appearing callous already called out here.

Tbh im indifferent on fortnite coming either way. I think its funny all of these people I've seen in other places acting like they are too good to walk through it. I also think people severely underestimate the amount of adults that play fortnite. They've done horror stuff in game basically since the start even having zombie jumpscares and stuff. Definitely a weird pick but I think it could seriously be a really good zone this year and people need to be more open minded.

Well, to start, they've removed the scantily clad blood bag girls. They also significantly changed how they do scare zones to stop bad guest behavior. And the properties started to skew more general audience over mostly hardcore fans. Plus the removal of B&T helped too.

Ironically Fortnite just added scantily clad characters in a reversal of a long standing policy against them. They're debating on the InsideFortnite forums whether or not adding HHN to the game will make it too much for children

I'm struggling to see how something as huge (in terms of sheer popularity) as Fortnite is going to work in an area as narrow as Central Park. As much as I really dig the Mel's Die-In recurring zone, I can't help but wonder if it would've made sense for Fortnightmares to take over the Mel's plaza, too.

Totally agree, they put it in the worst spot possible. Too narrow, too many people, you can't actually enjoy it like you can in other places. It's more of just a walk by area.

Last Friday, a gaggle of people waited at Mel's for an announcement, since they assumed something was coming. There were a few times I would walk by the 5 and Dime throughout this year and see people waiting when nothing was coming, let alone hinted at.

And when it comes to IP announcements, it's easy to forget that Universal isn't the only one calling the shots. Those marketing plans and announcement dates are usually worked out with the IP holder in advance. It takes two to tango.

I don’t mind them stuffing it there. If it ends up falling flat or being a nuisance it’s out of the way and won’t detract too much from the event and spooky vibes.

I completely understand why they would want to bring it to HHN and the mass appeal. However, I suspect there may have been some reluctance to have it take up too much space even if it comes at the expense of the overall execution of the zone.

I’m probably in the minority on this, but i will check it out on my way for pizza fries and am glad it’s not in one of the larger areas or a blight on my beloved Mel’s.

Well, they were waiting in the shade by Mel's, especially since there wasn't even a queue set up at the store... which probably should've been the telltale sign that nothing was coming, but I digress.

Really disappointed that both Mel’s Zombies and Club Horror are returning as repeats with no changes. Wish they would have given us something new, or at least change things up a bit…

I get being excited about expected announcements. Most of us were sitting around our phones/computers waiting for news, whether at work or school or home.

What is unique about doing so at Mel’s? That’s the question. What store is there where there might be a related queue? A queue into a press conference or mini event where the announcement is made? Why is it worth mentioning randos sitting at Mel’s instead of other randos sitting at a coffee shop in Poughkeepsie or other randos riding bespoke tricycles on the moon, all of whom are awaiting HHN announcements?
