From what I’m seeing here and hearing from SA friends, it seems like some houses are mostly plexi-less and some are fully plexied up. Dropping that subject now but it’s so damn strange

So IP houses have plexiglass and the originals don’t. Maybe that’s a possibility?

I've got scareactors in Brides, Icons, Seek and Destroy, and Puppet saying no plexi as of Wednesday. Haven't heard from any IPs. That's my contribution to the conversation. Take it as you will.

Keep in mind with Jack that he's not a draw to Joe Schmoe flipping through channels...even LESS so for the other Icons. This is a commercial to draw people to the event. Particularly the horror fans. And probably one of the #1 horror tropes is Scary Clowns. So he works. Old Lady in a rocking chair, Roman Polansky, Hot Ginger in a Green Dress, and Tree-Man don't have the same instant recognition and understanding.

You were expecting something else...Fair enough. We have the IP announcement videos that has the happy go lucky / wiseass Beetlejuice you were looking for. It exists, just not in this add because it doesn't fit. Going from Beetlejuice to Leatherface is a huge jump and doesn't make for a very cohesive story.

The fact that it had the Billie thing that wasn't pulled, clearly shows it was shot earlier. It's not cheap to do these and the imagery is still really freaky and spiders crawling out people's mouths is VERY popular. If you weren't uber nerds like us knowing that her house was originally RUMORED to be coming, you wouldn't pick up on it. Officially, Billie has never been announced to ever have anything at the event. That's just another horror trope. Feel like it's been an album cover in the past. Too lazy to look it up. The "Billie Font" could easily be from the movie Zodiac or The Ring (typing off the cuff, might be wrong, but I do visualize a similar font when thinking about it...didn't google anything). It's nothing tied completely to a single entity unless you want it to be. The guy who was carving into the cell wall looked like the blind guy from whatever sequel that just came out or maybe Michael Rooker's character from Suicide Squad, or any crazy babbling freaky homeless guy from countless horror movies. Again, a horror trope for horror fans.

And Beetlejuice is relatively considered to be a family friendly movie. Having him in a prison with bloody bars isn't something that the IP would want associated with it. That's business as usual and probably something negotiated in the contract for using it. There have been IPs that haven't appeared on the "IP group shirt", Beetlejuice wasn't called out for Marathon of Mayhem v2.0 so maybe there's something with that, etc.

I think the commercial is great for what it is and works really well. Throwing 20 different characters into a commercial for the general public would just confuse the hell out of everybody...and they want to SCARE the hell out of everybody with the ad A lot of people, myself included, think Lights, Camera, Hacktion is confusing and throwing too many un-related things into a zones. The Weeblewobble Soap People, Extras from Grease, and Mask-Wearing Chainsaw Dude who isn't Leatherfact? To throw all the icons into an ad for the general public would cause that kind of confusion but exponentially higher.

It's probably my fault since being an anniversary year I was expecting something like the sweet 16 commercial with the icons, but as you say and as we know, what sells the event are not the icons except to fans like us. I've been a fan of the event for over 10 years and at the end, like other years, during the commercial I look for the references to the ip's (or other houses). In this case there are references to Hill House, Texas chainsaw massacre and Billie, right? I haven't found any more, the rest look like random people to me but I could be wrong lol

Sweet 16 was also long before Universal and HHN became a national (let alone international) draw. 2006 was squarely in the “this is a predominantly local event that’s keeping the resort in the black.” The icons were instantly recognizable across Central Florida then. Not so much anymore.

This is the main thing that makes me question the plexiglass rumor: Why have plexiglass in the houses, when they've been gone from the regular parks for months now. Also, why have distancing in the houses meanwhile it looks like scare zones will be normal?

The teaser videos for the individual houses were much better IMO

One thing I did notice is the guy in the cell chipping at the wall kind of reminded me of the mascot from HHN14...idk just thinking out loud

I do kind of like the idea of Jack running an insane asylum underneath USF though, pretty fun concept

Glad you took it that way...in hindsight my reply was kinda jerk-ish, but was playing it out in my head. Didn't mean any offense and glad you took it as such.

My first year was 14 and that was only because of the Travel Channel special. Living over 1000 miles away I NEVER saw a commercial. I think back "in the olden days" they were happy to get repeate local customers and full original commercials was a viable plan. I think now, with how big it's become and how much money they're spending on IPs it's a different beast and they need to put new "butts in seats" to meet their goals.

However, with the vague call outs to IPs, I wonder if the thoughts it would be a more local-centric year (going back to pre-cancellation 2020) had something to do with the tone. Interesting food for thought.

It feels like a music video that would have really benefitted from the Eilish tie-in. I'm not clear on what happened to the alleged footage of the other icons/HHN characters following Jack down the prison hallway...

You're not the only one, I'll admit I'm not really feeling this ad. Feels a tad one note and it lacks a punch at the end.

I think this would've done better as a Sleep Clinic, where all is seemingly well until the patients encounter images of the IP's, Icons etc. which throw them into a serious nightmare. (Maybe with them waking up and finding out those nightmares are very real.) Then you reveal Jack gleefully at the controls and you've got yourself an ad.

Ultimately, an ad is just an ad. It's not gonna' hamper what's inside the event which is looking quite good!

Basically, the parks are almost always more fun when they're doing things to appeal to locals.
