I see we don’t have a proper thread for listing your favorite years, mazes, shows and scarezones at HHN Hollywood, so here goes…

With 2023’s event up and running it felt natural.

Whether this is your first, fifth or fifteenth year attending in Hollywood, feel free to chime in on your favorite years, mazes scarezones and shows of the event, rankings or even your least favorite(s).

for me 2010 was my first year so it holds a special place

I loved the Nope Part of last year's event

2019 was the last year, I have super strong memories of the event being just amazing all around.
Us, Ghostbusters, Killer Clowns, creepshow. It was a fun and overall great year

Freakenstein talked about 2010 and that was also another strong year I remember. Freddy and I think the last if not one of the last time we see a Jason House.

I don’t know why it’s never talked about but Freddy vs Jason is so high on my all times list. The original Exorcist. Hell 2016 could have been the greatest year ever probably.

AvP in its first year was spectacular too.

yeah, 2016 is an absolute benchmark year. The Exorcist, Freddy vs. Jason, Halloween (imo the best they've ever done it) and Krampus were all stellar mazes.

I think 2016 was the turning point for sure. the exorcist maze would be like 4 hours everynight. thats when the GA started showing up to HHN more. and when we started to get BIG IPs

Universal monsters remix was that bad for you? Was it just the music you hate? Because overall the maze was pretty good imo

I'll state of the four years I've been in, it always comes tot his as my rankings in general for houses:

1: Scarecrow The Reaping (a defining house in art direction, scare intensity/quality, and how immersive it truly felt. There was nothing else like it at all for HHN from all I've been able to go into)
2: La Llorona 2012/2022 (An incredibly rich, haunting, and rewarding house to go into and to experience. Both versions perfectly tell and show the horrors of the story; alongside just being genuinely terrifying to go into)
3: The Weeknd: After Hours Nightmare (the best IP house I have ever been in. More "Walkthrough" than anything, but the sound design, lighting, and set design is nothing short of spectacular. It is everything I wanted with The Weeknd in so many ways--and makes me clamor for more.)
4: Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2012 (while not my favorite IP house, it is easily the most intense HHN house I have ever done. Shook me to my core in a way no other house has ever done).
5: The Walking Dead: Dead Inside (an incredibly immersive, highly detailed and intense house; it captures the feeling and sense of following with the group in a way that is nothing short of incredible. Also my favorite IP facade in general; because of how close-quartered it gets).

In the four years, I would say 2022 holds that special element. It was me finally being able to experience it on the individual level, and to see how much Murdy and the Hollywood team put it in. There are issues to be sure, but the houses when they hit (Weeknd, Scarecrow, La Llorona, oddly Blumhouse even); they *really* hit.

I haven't been to that many HHN Hollywood seasons (I avoided the black wallz era like a hawk), but 2016 was my first year and has been my favorite season sense. On paper, it was an insane lineup for just 6 houses, bringing 4 slashers, two massive white whales, and comedy, and still, all had their moments. Not one bad maze that year.
