Dark Universe - General Discussion Thread

When I first rode it two years ago, that was all it felt like to me. I didn't feel any real motion.

On Magic, some pixie dusters were saying that Darkmoor was a flop and that Monsters Unchained had low wait times as a result. They refuse to admit that Darkmoor is just well done. Could it have used another ride or one with better capacity than the Werewolf coaster? Probably but it is still visually stunning and Unchained is awesome. The discussion was whether or not the Villains land would be creepy or not.

I would *not* describe Magic as being a “pixie duster” site lol.

That said, I'm enough of a jaded cynic to assume that the more original and fan-appealing any attraction (or any piece of enteratinment) is, the less GP-appealing it will be. But if it does actually get the most riders, that's great to hear.

They never said it was a full-on site, just said they exist over there, and for a site that had several of said pixie dusters accuse me of faking my Disney honeymoon as a Universal plant, I'm inclined to agree.

While I hesitate to mention it, Screamscape is saying that permits have been filed for building 1570. They are saying that it could be a new attraction for Dark Universe. Has anyone heard anything or is this just smoke?

The first thing I thought was that this is Curse of the Werewolf should have been. I just don't know if they had the space for it.

Not sure if anyone else feels this way, but given I have yet to have a ride through on MU that had all AAs working (been on it 6 times over 3 trips), I really do worry about the long term state of the ride. It’s something where the smoothness of the AA movements is paramount to making it effective overall IMO. Like when you’re engrossed in the visuals of the Wolfman chasing you and then the reveal is just a static Wolfman figure, it really takes you out of the moment given it’s the center of attention in that show scene.

Even though the ride will always be excellent from a theming and layout perspective, I do worry as the years pass us by that we will look back on the attraction and it will be one of those “dang, remember when those AAs used to be so lifelike?” Really hope I’m wrong though.

All that said, I’m guessing this may be a hot take and I’m definitely not trying to paint a target on my back here….

I've expressed similar sentiments here before. It's an incredible ride on a perfect run, but even the best maintained animatronics and screens fade with time, and we're already seeing a good bit of strain. I just hope it can keep up with its' own ambition.

I think it's a very valid concern to have - I think at some point they'll have to adjust the movement on the AAs to extend their lives.

It'll still be a fan favorite, but it will become kind of a new generation of Jaws.
