I certainly agree that Imagineering as of late has been prone to over-explaining and demystifying certain things that are best left alone.

I do think that DCA over the last 15 years has been pretty consistently following a “celebration of [insert CA thing here] by way of [insert IP here].” Avengers Campus, Pixar Pier, San Fransokyo, and even Cars Land all do this to some extent.

I’m just trying to think of what an Avatar Land would celebrate. The movies? CA Futurism (a kind of Discoveryland West)? CA’s coastline?

I mean, I can see this potentially being the nail that finally makes them change the parks name... especially with Disneyland Forward expansions potentially in the future.

Lol

I don’t get it so 2032+

DCA needs work still even after the later new rudes, so confused on this because of that just started it we’d have it done before work on TL does

Until Disneyland is starting TL soon but I doubt they are going to be working there other rides, the parking garage and TL at the same time but would love to be wrong

2031 is when the final Avatar film is coming out FWIW. Micechat thinks Avatar could be at a more real risk of being canned for something else. If Disney is still serious about Avatar coming to DCA, work on it in parallel with new TL.

If I were a betting man, I'd say doing both in tandem is likely what will happen. Any large scale construction in Tomorrowland will very likely require he closure of the monorail, just as the Avatar construction will. I bet it's likely the monorail will go down once while any construction around it in both locations happens.

Man, some people will just never be happy.

My totally out of left field take on this is we may not see this Avatar project happen. If they move over to Disneyland to focus on Tomorrowland after Coco and the Avengers Campus additions open, I could see them pivoting away from this project entirely. It wouldn't be the first time.

There is a ton of speculation around James Cameron and the future of the Avatar franchise and I truly think that if he is even lukewarm on this, it simply won't happen.

I don’t think this ride happens either , despite how cool that model is. There is a reason this wasn’t part of the presentation yesterday. Im actually surprised the model even showed up at d23.

The current Disney leadership seems to be focused on appeasing their fans, and I just don’t think the Disney fans or the GP are clamoring for more avatar in the parks. If the last movie was a huge hit … then maybe , but it wasn’t .

I’m one of the few people (it seems) that actually enjoys the movies and the rides. So I think it’s a bummer that there is lack of interest for more.

That being said … I don’t really need anymore Avatar movies either…

But you know what parks fans really hate?

Announcing a big new expansion to your park then quietly forgetting it didn't exist a few years later.

Listen, I’m rooting for Avatar land to happen, but if they have lost interest in doing it…they have the opportunity to do something great.

You have the Muppet Vision theater sitting there that could be used for used for the Monsters Inc show, and you could use that Eastern Gateway plot and the Monsters Inc ride space that could easily be used for the Door Coaster. DCA REALLY needs another coaster. Oh, and you could put Harryhausen’s in that empty dining building.

I’m just saying

Like I want TL and I happen but

1) zero details on that, this was exciting because it’s based on an amazing E ticket system

2) why announce it 4 years ago to be like can’t be done until we finish those other projects. It just feels unprofessional
Like how did they not know this world happen, as far as I know the parking garage is on schedule from when it was announced. So confusing how they can now redo an entire land then get to one ride

Anyway, I’ll be more excited about the TL redo when we get any details. It’s literally blue shy right now, it’s a promise more then anything I can get excited for

Two-thirds of TSL's rides functionally exist at California Adventure, as does TOT (in altered form)!

This would honestly be my preferred outcome, while allowing for a big Avatar land in the future and keeping the (funny to me) tradition alive of Disneyland just getting everything Hollywood Studios already has.
