From my understanding, the Hollywood Backlot & Bus Stop area was selected for Avatar in order to (eventually) save the Simba lot for future hotel use (think of an Fantasy Springs-esque situation). Sort of perfect location for a Toy Story themed hotel next to Pixar Pier, Pixar Place Hotel and a new dark ride themed to Disney*Pixar's Coco. I think Toy Story is the perfect IP to base Disneyland's first large resort hotel on (assuming they're interesting in offering value/moderate-style hotels).

Random thought that popped into my mind: They announced a surprise ride at D23 with the Jetpack lab at Avengers Campus. You think they could pull another surprise here by saying Flight of Passage is also coming? The big theater sitting empty right next to the land would be the perfect space for that ride.

Maybe but I think we are years off from more being announced for DCA

We have 4 attractions coming, and none are even coming this year...so feels like it would be like telling us about a ride 6 years into the future

If they ever did want to bring over the Flight of Passage ride, they should just tweak it to fit this water-based version of the land: Instead of "flying," they could have the experience be about exploring exclusively underwater. Similar themes/story in the queue about conservation, same ride system, and so forth, but it could be tied into the Tulkun or something. Not a big Avatar fan, but I'd hate to see a one-to-one clone plopped into what's otherwise going to be a completely distinct land.

I wouldn't mind a fifth ride.

My dark horse blue sky dream for a fifth Avengers Campus ride would be a Doctor Strange attraction using Efteling's Danse Macabre ride system. Given that ride's compact size, there could be enough room to replace the abandoned Sanctum with an actual Sanctum experience.

Guardians of the Galaxy should've been a Doctor Strange attraction. Have the base be the Sanctum Santorum and the "high rise" portion of the building be malice or dark energy escaping the Santorum. Would've been a great successor to ToT.

Dr Strange would’ve been a stellar Vekoma Madhouse. Imagine Disney being able to do something like that.

I’m more upset they didn’t take the opportunity to name the ride Guardians of the Galaxy: Tower of Terra. Come on. Name was right. There.

I'm actually pretty content with where Avengers Campus will end up. It certainly helps that Mission Breakout is a great experience on its own rather than a downgrade from Terror of Terror. I'm also a fool who likes Web Slingers (good arm workout!) and hopefully a few people will come around on that when it's not the newest ride at the park.

However, the way this land was rolled out was terrible and should never happen again. At least all the dregs of the DCA 3.0 era (Pixar Pier, Avengers Campus) are finally getting fixed to make them more cohesive.

Also, yes, I am defining the new slate of rides as DCA 4.0, with the eras being defined as follows.

DCA 1.0 (2001-2006): The California Postcard Era, spanning from the park's opening to the removal/addition of various rides that "quickly" fixed some of the park's weak points.

Illustrative Rides: Superstar Limo, Soarin', Tower of Terror, Mike and Sulley

DCA 2.0 (2007-2015): Rework Era, spanning from the announcement of the rework to the Grizzly Airfield expansion. An era that aimed to comprehensively address issues with the original resort while making the overall park more thematically cohesive and in line with the quality expected of Disney resorts.

Illustrative Rides: Toy Story Midway Mania, World of Color, Radiator Springs Racers, Grizzly Airfield Retheme of Condor Flats

DCA 3.0 (2015-2025): Chapek Era, exemplified by unnecessary rethemes of existing attractions to better integrate with popular intellectual properties as well as botched reworks or additions that undid a lot of the positive steps made in the previous era.

Illustrative (uh) Things: Mission Breakout, Incredicoaster, Web-Slingers, San Fransokyo Square.

DCA 4.0 (2025-?) Healing Era, where (hopefully) the park improves upon the deficiencies of the 3.0 era without explicitly rejecting them as happened in the 1.0 Era.

Illustrative Rides: Infinity Defense, Coco Boat Ride, ??

I'm team Simba lot becomes more DCA park expansion. Some of the recent prep work being done in conjunction with Coco points to a bridge being built eventually at least Per Fresh Baked Disney and other WDWMagic posters.

I've long held the belief of Avengers Campus getting a 5th attraction, but I don't see it being in the D23 2026 slate because Disney probably wants to see what sticks in the post Secret Wars MCU before committing. People widely believe Stark flight lab is actually the underlying R&D from the quinjet ride since they sunk a lot of money into it and didnt want it to go to waste once they hit a wall with the capacity problems. As for what the ride system the hypothetical ride system the 5th AC would use will probably be something we haven't even thought of yet.

We stumbled upon the Mack version of this in the Greece area of Europa Park last summer...literally, we were walking along and saw this doorway and had no idea what was inside (in typical Europa Park fashion) and sat down. We had no idea what was going to happen. Wow. It was so fun. Just a bonkers surprise we never expected. I haven't been on Danse Macabre, but those two are examples of a class of attractions which are essentially mechanical/flat rides that are "dressed up" in dark ride theming and effects that are really great. Not hugely expensive or space-wasters, and great fun. Would love to see more of that at Disney or Universal.
