My guess is the issue is lag. Processing power. Too many variables for the computing power to handle. They will fix it, but I want to say—as surprising as it may be to some—the moving walkway is working perfectly. The issues are probably just computing power/real-time graphics rendering related, and will be fine tuned with more testing.

Anyone thinking the issue is the moving walkway just isn't paying attention or doesn't care.

I don't believe anybody ever thought the walkway wouldn't physically function.

The blaster stops working if you move off your dot. A message comes over the speakers if you continue moving. Team Members can help escort you off without even stopping the ride if you don't listen. If you cause too much problems, the belt can come to a slowly progressing stop so no one gets hurt or falls. They have thought of all of this, I am sure.

The lag issue happens to me on Smugglers Run all the time. Especially in moments where a lot of sprites/particles are being rendered. With over 100 people's blasters blowing up and interacting with screen media all at once in real time on this one, it's going to take some tweaking for the machines to be able to keep track of it all.

The reality of these things are often not as interesting as we probably think in our minds when we hear they're "having issues," but it's a relatively simple problem that will require people smarter than me to work out, and time. But it's not the end of the world.

Also, this attraction is likely going to be cloned for other parks, so they must have faith in it.

Honestly feels perfect for the kids park concept. No height requirements, easy to maintain, etc.

I was about to bring up Smugglers Run. The clips of its development/race to the finish line in The Imagineering Story doc series were telling - the computing power/polish/dependability required for the real time rendering wasn’t there until it was. And this requires Illumination-level graphics projected on an enormous screen, presumably with actual characters (which Smugglers lacks). This isn’t as simple as Midway Mania.

They would have to swap out the IP, because I think the Texas park is DreamWorks. But I'm sure they could come up with something for Trolls. The major costs are in R&D which is being covered by VC now.

Yeah, I'm thinking in terms of "interactive shooter dark ride on a moving walkway" could easily fit several IPs. Splatoon, obviously, but they could probably find some ways to make it work with DreamWorks.

They’re no longer locking themselves into only DreamWorks. Hence the “Universal Kids” park name. I bet you anything Minions will open with the Frisco park, (but not this attraction).

I'm sure the ride will be fun, but I'm not sure how much faith I'd put in the "plan to clone" quality assurance. After all, Smuggler's Run was cloned a lot, and it's awful. Fast n' Furious is more or less a clone (standard I like it but most don't stipulation). I believe Frozen Ever After is being cloned and it's... not great, and certainly not what you'd build from the ground up in an ideal world. And so on, and so forth. Cloning is often as much about saving development costs as it is about attraction quality.

I apologize profusely for ever questioning the moving sidewalk. If the segments are large enough for most guests to have both feet on the same piece of sidewalk, I'm sure it will be fine. I'm sure they will accommodate guests with balance issues.

Good to know that everyone that thought it was just a cheap band-aid addition are being proven wrong. Sounds like there's some serious tech going into this.

I think more of less the track will stay the same and tech but have new themes....could Minions come to USH. Sure but I think its just as likely another IP uses it, same with over in Texas(if it comes to that park)

But SLOP is a clone of the Yoshi ride and many love it, so I would not worry about it becoming a bad cloned ride.

Is it replacing any of the speculated lands? (Cretaceous, Shrek, Madagascar, Trolls)

SLOP is clone of the ride system not the ride. That would be like saying Pirates of the Caribbean is a clone of It's A Small World

I guess my question to those in here worrying about when it opens, marketing, etc… does Universal even see this as an attraction that would pull guests to visit (in a meaningful way), and why would they? This isn’t Hagrid’s or Velocicoaster.

I mean, it will be marketed, but I just can’t imagine the concern for them is bringing in visitors. If anything this is a step in fleshing out the park, adding something family friendly, and it will drive locals to come check out something new.

Guests out of state or out of country aren’t booking a trip for it.

I could see Uni opening it with relatively short notice.

I would guess Madagascar. That IP has fallen out of relevancy for a while now.

Sorry if I worded it wrong, my point being that this ride will most likely be cloned and use similar tech/tracks

At the end of the day, this is a C-Ticket-ish ride. It was never meant to be the driver of Summer traffic, say like a VelociCoaster or Hagrid.

They've soft-opened Minion Cafe to much success so far, and they'll get around to this when it's good and ready - so that should whet any appetites for the time being.

It's no Velocicoaster/Hagrid... but the Minion IP is a very powerful brand that can pull people into visiting, or at the least pull people from WDW for a day. When you have 9,000+ hotel rooms to fill and attendance dropping this year, ideally maybe you'd like to pull the Minions promotional lever?

None of us are attacking the ride's quality, we're just questioning Universal's decision to stay mute on what is a very popular IP when their attendance is down this year.

Also, this is more of a D-ticket since it'll probably get a similar draw to Minion Mayhem (but lower waits since it has decent capacity)
