Woke up to an amazing speculation map!

• Krampus Original - YES! HHN doesn't do nearly enough Christmas-themed haunts, and the Krampus house at 26 was very well-done! Now having that in a soundstage and it's their own take on it? Hell yeah.
  
  
• Dead Man's Pier 2? - ...eh? The house was great but we definitely don't need a sequel this year, unless this is just another sea-themed original, which in that case, sounds good!
  
  
• Lair of the Banshees - Meh. Wasn't a fan of the scare zone.
  
  
• Devil Dogs - As someone who loved Slaughter Sinema, YES! This scene and Swamp Yeti were the ones I was surprised had been rejected as houses before, and it's nice to see both of them now possibly getting their chance in the spotlight!
  
  
• Japanese Creature - While we don't know the creature yet, this house is near the top for me simply because of the setting. So much potential for beautiful and haunting sets.
  
  
• Metallica - RIDE THE LIGHTNING BABY!

But in all seriousness, I think it can literally be anything. I wouldn't be surprised if it is Dawn FM, but since last year was pop music, they may try to appeal to the rock/metal crowds.

Nightmares spec map is back, it's a wonderful day!

For me, the main thing of note and something that can certainly be speculated is...so the parade house portals are at the Simpson gate. If that is the case, so we'd be approaching the warehouses from Backlot Dr and most likely exiting down to E.T. which is still possible. That's all fine and dandy for the newer parade warehouse...but I'll be intrigued to see how they handle the old parade warehouse as the entrance and exit paths would cross in that layout.

Not really gonna' get into discussion of any non-clue'd houses since as with every year, things are subject to change. Nature of the beast with spec season, and the event itself. After all, Scream and Evil Dead Rise were happening...until they weren't. Us wasn't happening, until it was. Always a good thing to keep in mind for every year.

And on that note, should be interesting to see if Evil Dead Rise pops back up in spec. Since if the rumors were true, it was offered last year due to The Last of Us getting delayed...but with TLoU now back on spec, I can see them sticking with the hotter property they wanted from the get-go.

Would love to see a Dawn FM house. But even a rock house would be awesome to go through, i'm just hoping the music is great.

Overall the Spec Map is pretty interesting, and i'm curious what ideas are going to stay or leave.

Last year Hollowed out Horror was extremely wrong and by the time their map was outHNN already had their last map out. However, this year they released there’s earlier and before HNN and got 5/6 of the same or similar.

Another thing of note which just hit me.

For those wondering "Why didn't Nightmares just say X?", there's a multitude of reasons, but one of them which I feel is pretty darn important for spec season is...you never give away everything all at once. The moment you do that, spec season is DEAD, and so are the forums. I've seen it happen in the past where someone leaked the official lineup, and the discussion on the forums just died...which led to an incredibly ironic moment where the one who leaked the lineup was wondering why no one was talking about the lineup. And then you have the unique case of 2021 where we knew all but one house, that was not a good time in the forums leading up to the event as there really wasn't anywhere to go but in circles. The only exception being Nightmares who used the opportunity to throw everyone off on what the last house was gonna' be.

By and large, by not giving everything away, you keep speculation going as folks try to figure out the vaguer titles. After all, why is E. an Anchor? Is it a sequel to Dead Man's Pier? Or is it literally an Anchor of an original property? Food for thought to keep things going until the lineup becomes clearer.

Maybe all the Youkai anime shows like Demon Slayer and Inuyasha made everyone request Universal to do a Japanese themed house. If it weren’t for them, we wouldn’t have Shadowsland at Knott’s

Kinda surprised that they're not leveraging the IP of Krampus, but also understand that the house was only okay because it couldn't dream up it's own haunted house-friendly characters. I'd rather have an
"original" Giant Gingerbread Creature rather than static, tiny ones from the IP. But still, shocked that the synergy was outright ignored!

I think this would be the year to do an "icon" show if there ever was one. A M3GAN and Chucky roast battle or something similar would be popular, I imagine. This would also be a very easy year to overlay a phrase like "Playtime Is Over", and a sort of twisted childhood theme. Between the M3GAN, Chucky, TLOU, and Krampus, this feels like a year ripe for a return of Cindy, Treaks & Foons, etc. Even Banshees and Yokai could have a "come little children" aspect! Frankly, I'm surprised there is no Scary Tales here, it would be a very easily marketable theme to throw over the whole event, and a really easy theme for Marketing and Merch to throw onto things - because Chucky merch apparently sells really well? Of course, not everything would fit perfectly, but they never have. And Creative tends to do a good job writing around that sort of stuff.
