Honest question because I’m genuinely curious…

Has anyone here NOT gone to HHN solely because they were disappointed in the house/IP lineup? I understand people miss for travel, budget, etc. and maybe a “down year” helps justify some decisions not to go, but has anyone sat out strictly because they’re not into the content?

Personally I think the event has earned the benefit of the doubt when it comes to house quality regardless of theme.

Few people appreciate just how cool 2004’s HHN looked.

No one has been trashed as my post was about Universal's delay in announcements and its full slate of ticket options. Because some posters can't stop themselves from jumping to a billion dollar multimedia company's defense is what, I believe however, has changed this from HHN speculation to Universal propaganda. It's quite obvious to me that the company is having issues with the event and this thread has become a place where there has been a lot of covering for them about it so it's unfair that posters are siccing mods on anyone who dare not agree with these delays since some of us are trying to decide whether to a book a vacation or not. I get it that a lot of the posters are local and probably employees so jerking everyone around is fun for them, because they're going either way, but I'm 1000 miles away and it's disrespectful for the company to not have officially announced much of anything by now. If they want it to revert to a local Halloween event again then that's their prerogative but it's also disrespectful on the part of the provincial locals, who know what's happening because they work there, to say anything to the rest of us as we legitimately need info to make an informed decision. Additionally, it's pretty hypocritical for the 'scare-actors' to be able to constantly complain about employee black-out dates but if anyone says anything about the company waiting until two weeks before it opens to give us some names or repeating ideas to cut corners those posters get attacked. If it's such a problem that they can't clog up the queues for free then they should go back to working at Sonic where they belong and the mods should disallow them from voicing any displeasure with company policies as well.

I missed 2010, 2011 and 2012 for those exact reasons. I regret missing 2011 as that looked like an awesome year. I honestly was seriously considering missing out this year because of the lineup. Specifically all the IP's are of no interest to me. (Except the Universal Monsters. Love those houses and forgot that is considered an IP) The only reason I'm going is becuase I want to use my AP before it expires and have SW flight credit that expires this year also.

I think lack of house interest has stopped very few people on HERE, but I could see a bigger than usual percentage of the GP who may not be willing to spend the money and travel to the event because of a lackluster lineup. It's been a rough two years for a lot of people and they're being more selective about where they put their money, methinks. Especially when everything we've seen so far can be interpreted as something you've already seen before (Blumhouse, Universal Monsters, Halloween).

That may good thing if the GP quit thinking it’s a version of mickeys party and there aren’t screaming toddlers and babies! Especially with no ST or GB.

*cough* TERRA QUEEN *cough*

The good one. Not 2021. :puke:

Serious question- why do fans love the Terra Queen so much? Yeah 2005’s story is one of the more interesting aspects of HHN’s lore and I agree 2021 screwed her over, but like. First of all, even if she was featured in all the adverts, there’s still her role in the event itself. She only appears in one part of the event, which is the Terra Throne show, which looks okay. It’s still really weird that they didn’t give her a proper house (which is what fans complained about Fear or Luck). Granted Bloody Mary and the Usher seemed to be the only icons with a “real” presence but still. As a character she herself is arguably less fleshed out than even Fear or Luck, partially due to the fact that for some reason she was not allowed to speak in any language. I don’t think a “silent”-ish (sorta) icon is effective. There’s no real backstory as to HOW the Queen came to power.

I do think the Storyteller has a lot of potential and is slightly more interesting than the Queen, it’s just that the creative team never gave a ham to develop her character in a meaningful way.

I’ve been the past three years and I decided to sit this one out. I agree the quality of houses and event will be epic because the creatives and production teams know what they're doing. It’s more of the lineup for me personally. It came across as repetitive. And although I enjoyed Black Phone, I’m concerned about some tonal dissonance being paired with Freaky. I’ll be back in the future. But you know, you make these decisons with what Universal has released and what people chose to share through spec which we can all appreciate.

From a professional stand point I disagree and I point to the cruise industry as proof. That industry is roaring in ways it wasn’t even performing in 2019. Average Spend & REVPar are way up.

I think HHN will display similar metrics. Average Spend way up, ancillary products being purchased more, ARPar/REVPar up at resorts. I think there could be some changing market conditions next year, but this year, consumer spending is still moving forward and the event is attractive.

Additionally I think this demographic really underestimates the 15-21 crowd. They will more than likely attend regardless of lineup, but a strong lineup helps those numbers amplify. The 25-49 crowd definitely spends more at the event, but the economy of scale that the 15-21 crowd brings in makes them a really enticing demographic, especially when they’re dropping serious money on Merch & food.

Unrelated to civil conversation, please don’t feed the troll. Us interacting with him validates his platform

Oh yay story time... come sit with pizza fries, twisted tator & blinky drink!

*deep breathe for long-winded ramble*

Everything was interconnected throughout the entire event, whether the GP knew it or not (even if it was all handed to them on a blood-soaked silver platter, they still wouldn't understand no matter how dumbed down). The Terra Queen didn't need to be everywhere to be the icon & main focus. She was a hell dimension god with a great rack & motorcycle- The Terra Beast. It's not necessary to know how she ended up ruling the Terra Cruentus dimension, just look at every scary fearsome female Queen/ruler that embodies terror & sex appeal in horror media.

She didn't need a house because her entire backstory is tied into every house was tied into her existence, same for scarezones. The reason why fans didn't complain about it back then is because the entire event was literally for the fans that year. It introduced the beta-test version of Legendary Truth that we'd get in 2008, which the creative team of HHN paid for with their own money. It was a gamble that paid off & got LT approved 2 years later.

The Storyteller was never meant to exist at all. That was all marketing being too incapable of promoting a demon Queen that wants to sacrifice humans for their blood so she can return in 15 years. Hence why The Storyteller was practically non-existent at the event. They threw her into a "childhood fears" house (Where Evil Hides) & called it a day. (Michael Myers had a hallway scare. Vampire bungee in the attic. Redneck chainsaw basement finale) Her scene was the bed of nails victim (dummy) from the commercial with a her threatening to cut the rope & drop the anvil on him.

Jump to 2006, The Arrival show has her ripping out tongues to tell stories (which became her gimmick until 2021 randomly made her a demon) & she was once again thrown into a house, this time Dungeon of Terror (only appeared in the first scene)

Anyway back to our beloved Queen. She didn't need to speak, that was why Eelmouth existed to speak (and heckle/harass guests) for her. Although if she did speak, it'd probably be like Gozer from Ghostbusters only scarier.

The only time we had another event/icon on this level was 2008. And this has been your Tale of Terror

NOTE: I might've forgot something but i just got off work, so I'm tired lol

(I'd say 2011 was also close to being on that level, what with all the houses tying back to Lady Luck.)

of the past 12 years, i personally, in my opinion feel that 2012 was my least liked. i wasnt too crazy about that year, something changed from before, the houses felt different, felt like the event had a big major shift from 2012 . something felt very off.
it wasnt even the lineup, but the houses and the scares felt off somehow,

Here I am thinking that an HHN event where they announced nothing and you wouldn’t know any of the content until the first day of the event would be fun.

Surprises are few and far between these days.
Yeah I wouldn't travel from Germany for that. There is just to much cost involved for me to even risk that. Yes HHN is a lot of fun but I can skip a year here and there if the originals don't really speak to me and I am kinda indifferent about the IPs that year (see 27 as an example). Its just the reality that HHN is now so big that it gains the attention of an international audience that kinda needs to know partially what is coming so they can see if it is worth it to even fly out or if they plan an Orlando vacation next year instead and make it a bit bigger
