Regarding Bill & Ted, I thought it got tired towards the end...but mostly because I was 40-something and 75% of the references flew over my head the last few years of the show. The "internet fails" video was more entertaining than the show one year for me. Some of the earlier years, it was my favorite part of the event. Guess from others comments it wasn't solely me aging out of the show, but that it lost some of it's magic.

I know this is definitely veering offtopic, but my two cents about Bill and Ted toward the end is that, for better or for worse, how we consume pop culture and culture in general changed radically over the course of the decades long run. In the current day and age, the collective attention span of the internet is only so long, and with a constant stream of new stuff to consume and replace the old, what would have been something relevant for months in the past may only occupy the zeitgeist for a couple weeks.

I'll use Tiger King as an example. Back in, heck I'd even say 2009/2010, I'd argue the show would have still been roughly as topical in October as it was in April. But if they had used Joe Exotic or Carole Baskin (which you know they would have) in a show last year, it probably would have gotten a laugh or two, but kind of felt played out, because the internet pop culture machine had already milked all the content from it and left the husk, haha.

There will never be another pop culture parody show. Legal killed it.

But B&T lived and died on its writing and there were several years it just simply bombed

I never saw a year where it didn't draw significant crowds throughout the event, usually filling FFL to capacity for its mid-evening shows. Maybe not your personal cup of tea, but it never "bombed."

Honestly the event needs an popular attraction in that venue; it pulls guests off the streets (and out of house lines) for a significant chunk of the night. And HHN has no singular identity. Rated R gore, creepy gothic vibes, sophomoric dark humor. sexy people dancing--the houses and streets have always been a hodge-podge. But at the end of the night, it's a party, and B&T fit that party vibe to a tee.

The “jokes” are what bombed (there’s a reason AoV was higher rated), it survived in the later years because of the necessity of a sit down, off your feet, crowd eating show at HHN.

Whether it’s agreed upon or not, the Bill & Ted show is dead and buried where it belongs.

I really enjoyed the original version of Bill and Ted’s final show at HHN 27, but the fact it had to be altered due to its subject matter being too similar to a mass shooting shows the flaw in having a pop culture parody show. A current event can easily make it seem insensitive and that takes the fun out of it.

Although I didn’t like Jack’s persona at HHN25 (too “WWE heel-ish” IMO) a horror “magic” show works better for these characters than a pop culture parody show. I also really enjoyed the Voodoo Queen sacrifice show in Bayou of Blood. IMO I want more intense and graphic performances that add to the atmosphere.

Yes but even the Voodoo Queen brought controversy. Tho wasn't that more over the voodoo aspect than the violence?

Never received a clear answer on it, but it was rumored to be over complaints regarding race. I saw it twice and both times it gave me chills. The whole cast’s participation was amazing and the actors on stage were really into their roles. When it was gone my final visit, I was legit sad.

The rumor was that churchgoers complained, which sounds ridiculous at a horror event, but given some of my experiences, I wouldn't rule it out.

I think @Brian G. can comment more but I always heard it was a little of column a, a little of column b. Plus the show took away scare actors on the street so they probably just moved them there to fill it out more.

People will always find something to complain about - it's just that something like B&T is opening itself up to those complaints pretty easily.

Re that second point, EVERY show in a zone pulls scareactors off a street. Not saying you're wrong, but that doesn't track in my brain as a reason to kill it.

BnT was frequently out of pocket though - the most glaring example being that mincing stereotype Superman.

The last AoV (probably last one however) was the best show ever conceived for HHN in my opinion. Marathon was a close 2nd.

also quick side note.. this is what the “new filming take of jack” seems to look like. Wonder if they are recreating his old looks, or maybe simply a new look overall?

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t know if that’s one of the new shoots. I actually didn’t see the leaked video but I’m pretty sure it cuts through a ton of old Jack footage, but also they could have just put him in the old costume for some new shoots as a cute little thing

He just looks a little different. Could see them putting him in old fits as a nod to Jack’s past all together

The Bill and Ted slander in this thread is ridiculous and I won’t stand for it.

The show was designed to be the opposite of timeless. It was a new show every year for that exact reason. Did they always hit? No, but they were always fun, high energy, and everyone involved looked like they were having a blast. The event has been lesser without them

I agree, there were some years that were downright hilarious.

I miss a funny type show at HHN would be welcomed, but I'd be interested to see a non pop culture funny show

I started going back to HHN for the last shows of Bill and Ted because I had never seen. I thought the show was great, couldn’t quit talking about it. I understood some things only because my friends have kids but still great.

B&T had the Simpsons effect for me where I had some of the best laughs/memories from it at times, but it was obvious near the end that it needed to be put out of its misery. I don't hate B&T and I don't necessarily think it needed to be canned, but a major change of guard for it could have been awesome.

A really popular narrative is that "people thought it was too offensive!!!!", when I'm sure that was in the minority. Legal just wanted a pop culture show dead. I think just an actually funny B&T show that didn't force pop culture references that were already dated by the second night of the event could have been incredible, I wonder why they just didn't change how the show worked.

Will they even attempt to do Terra Queen's sacrifices or will she just be there as an actor?

I never actually saw it, but is there a reason RHPS was never brought back for HHN? Its a fairly popular property that they can use, and while it's not the same style show as B&T or what you're describing, I'm sure it could eat some significant amount of crowd.
