Guests manage to find Diagon Alley (most of the time) so I think VelociCoaster will be fine. Maybe they put a big dino at the entrance with a sign, that will be noticeable.

Regarding Tron vs VelociCoaster, that is a unfair fight. He better put Tron vs Hagrid's next to each other, both are themed family coasters. I still think Hagrid's would win as Tron is, as a coaster, very underwhelming.

On top of the orange part of the building with the watchtower, there are 3, possibly 4, shipping crates. I wonder if those are the super bright lights shooting into the sky behind the top hat in the night concept art?

That roof space would have made one sweet location for a bar.

It will be very easy for guests who are going counter-clockwise to get to JWVC like you guys have said. There's probably going to be a significant sign next to FireEaters Grill/the bypass bridge.

As far as the guests that go around the Islands clockwise (from Toon Lagoon), couldn't they just put signs in front of the paddock walls that show the actual directions to the entrance? I mean like a themed map with arrows and such. It could be blocky/industrial looking graphics to fit in with the rest of the aesthetic. Even if you simplified it to that extent, some guests will still have trouble finding it.

It's certainly going to be a challenge for the ops TMs.

So Will capacity be pretty good on this ? Or similar to Hagrid? I’m hoping it’s a people eater.

Considering that there’s a single load/unload for this thing and that it runs 24 passenger trains, this is completely dependent on number of dispatches per hour.

The design of the trains will be helpful for quick boarding as well as the uncomplicated hydraulic pull down lap bar. Variables will include large guests, ADA’s, and random guest instances that you’d find at any attraction.

Given these factors I’d imagine there won’t be much difference in running three trains on this vs five trains. If we assume that on a given day that they’re running four trains on this, the theoretical hourly capacity is lower than any other major coaster at the resort.

You know, it just occurred to me: VelociCoaster will be America's very first highly-themed thrill coaster. Heck, it's actually the first highly-themed thrill coaster in the entire Western Hemisphere!

Now, you may argue that coasters like Hulk or Hagrid's or some of Cedar Fair's more recent creations are highly themed, but think about it. Name one coaster in North or South America that has the level of theming that Hagrid's or the coasters in Phantasialand (FLY, Taron, Baron 1898) has that involves inversions. Okay, Mystery Mine at Dollywood, but that's a terrible ride  I can't think of any major *good* coaster with inversions that has any dark ride scenes or intricate theming that this has or some of the European parks have. VelociCoaster might be bigger for the American coaster industry than we realize.

I could very easily be wrong, but I wonder if they wanted to see how successful Hagrid's would be before they would greenlight a coaster with that level of theming but with more thrills? I guess they saw Hagrid's success as feeling more comfortable to build something in that calibur with bigger thrills.

If VelociCoaster is successful and is at least fairly reliable, I wonder if more parks like Cedar Fair will be open to investing in rides like this; I wonder if Universal will be open to investing in more coasters like this. I know USH has a lot of restrictions, but if it's successful enough, they can probably find some way to pull it off at USH in some way (Of course not like VelociCoaster). That is, of course, assuming things turn around next year.

I think the decision to build was made before DD came down

You know what's crazy, is that 5+ years ago when a new attraction was back on the table for Jurassic Park, they actually considered bringing the HelicopTours idea back from the dead. I think a big part of why they went with this instead, is that the show building would've been too much of an eyesore being placed in the Triceratops Encounter area... That, and clearly someone at Universal REALLY wanted to get a thrill coaster into that land over the last twenty years, and finally succeeded.

Yea, and I'm VERY glad we got this and Kong instead of a B&M Hypercoaster.

It would have started on the kong plot and (I believe) gone over towards the Trike plot and done similar things that Veloci will, IE go over the lagoon and come back.

Wow. And people complain about JWVC being an eyesore. I'm definitely glad we got Mako at SW instead of that. Even for someone who doesn't like Kong, this is a much better situation.

I mean, yeah? It's pretty easy see how the addition of metal detectors and WB's objection to them lead to the removal of DD which caused Uni to be down an attraction that put nearly 4k theoretical people an hour through. So you need to replace an attraction like that with two new rides.

HelicopTours -- especially at that time -- would have also just reinforced the "All Universal does is screens" criticism.

In hindsight, I'd probably prefer they still went with HelicopTours, but I don't think it would have really done anything for the park or the resort.
