When I saw it last year it seemed they hardly used the ship area at all, whereas it was used a lot the other years I went. Is that one of the sets that wasn't working?

The boat they float in on is out of commission every so often.

What happened with the floor fire effect that was replaced with a silly invisible wall mime? And wow, I was told that the sound system was in tatters but geeez, I couldn't understand a ton of dialog... it was all distant and echoey.

They used the ship area on the final day, as in the video

Yup, the audio is horrible. The sound in the video is pretty much how it sounds at the show, can hardly understand the script at all, and no one knows what's going on

I could see Universal "hanging on" to this area until the next three HP-world movies come out (sometime in '17-'18, I think?), the Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them movies, then retheming it to the movies and connecting it to Hogsmeade. Diagon Alley's expansion (whenever that happens) will be the Ministry, which obviously fits best there, while the Beasts world (which takes place some decades before the HP books) would fit best around Hogwarts/Hogsmeade. Wasn't The Lost Continent originally meant to be based around legendary mythical beasts in the beginning? I know many wouldn't be happy with HP taking over the whole island, but financially, this seems the most logical way to utilize this really great, overlooked area of IOA without completely ripping it apart, and the Fantastic Beasts might be less in-your-face-hp-themed enough to draw non-HP folks into the land. :) From what I remember when I was working at the bookstore, the little book the movies are to be based on was full of commonly known mythological beasts and HP-related fantasy creatures and stories, which would translate well to the area even without the Wizarding World tie-in.

I think they'll pull the trigger after the first movie is a success...so much they can do with it..

Or, even way more when they do Fear Factor...LOL

Too true!

I'm honestly surprised at how long Fear Factor has been hanging in there. Such a huge space, so many possibilities... Is the show even on TV anymore? I've never experienced this attraction, so I have no idea what kind of draw it has. I know I've read rumors that this is the area Universal is planning to use for DA expansion at some point in the future, but who knows how long that will be.

From what I'm hearing, don't expect too much to change. It seems the basic story and script are staying with a few fixes here and there. All new fight choreography and effects will be the major enhancements of the show.

I was given a May 20th date last week. That could have changed a little.

Very interesting, thanks NJB!

I have chosen wisely to never see Sinbad and can barely watch videos of it. It seems the boat deck is a major piece, does this mean we'll get a changed show? Or will they replace it with another boat deck?

It seems as the boat deck wasn't working much lately. The first times I saw the show they used the boat deck for a fairly significant part of the show. When we saw it in May & Sept. of 2014 it was barely being used and they shifted most of the show to the other side of the stage. Sounds like they were having major problems with it. The show's dialogue is extremely corny, but the set is pretty decent, and the rest of the show wasn't nearly as bad as Fear Factor. But we generally only watched it once for each vacation or two.
