That's not new paint. That wall section was always light blue like that and others on X have been chiming in saying so and showing their day 1 pics.
Still hope they add more color to that ride, and ideally not just solid colored walls, though anything would help.

Correct. I was going to say the same.

But to answer @DOOMBOT’s question- two things need done. Painting the concrete- blue would work. Likely will need done during the winter closure as it will need to be an epoxy vs a paint. And the second thing is to fix the landscaping where it is stone and fill it in heavily with plants and (preferably) mulch like some of the other areas.

If that’s done + stained concrete walkways; then I’d say we’re pretty much there while we wait on the (too small planted) trees to grow in.

I've been chronically offline for a good month or so & am just now catching up, so I'm here to finally deliver what everyone has been clamoring for in this thread: even more takes & opinions! /s

My biggest takeaway is they have a branding issue here. I fully recognize as a theme park nerd that it's under the Universal Kids umbrella. I also know what that means in comparison to the "real" Universal Parks.

The general public doesn't. They see "Universal" and that's it. Hell, some people still just think Universal is called Harry Potter World. You can't give the average guest that much credit. Your 58-year-old uncle fully thinks this is just a regular, ugly looking Universal park and it's not a great position for Universal to be in.

However, people have short attention spans and a new mind-blowing Potter ride and Pokemon Land will come to the Orlando in a few years and suddenly everyone remembers that they love Universal and have to go. This isn't some death kneel and the parks will continue to succeed and this may or may not stay open in several years. The dramatics will be short-lived and everyone will have had their social media giggles for a week or two. Things like this or Galactic Starcruiser or Euro Disney don't just magically destroy the brand.

While we're still in that first week or two though, I'm happy to pile on a little and say that it's unacceptable to drop this much money on a kid's park and not commit to basic painting or shade. Just because kids seem unfazed by the sweltering heat doesn't mean they should be bombarded with it for a full day. Stop being cheap and lazy, guys. I'm not asking for dark rides or animatronics. Just the basics.

I also think the dramatics are silly. Let Universal try weird stuff. Stop worrying about their budget like you're in the boardrooms. The Orlando parks are still getting annual additions and nothing appears to be changing there or slowing down. Experimenting can lead to cool stuff. Let's see what sticks when they throw a million things at the wall.

In conclusion, lol I'm not having kids, this isn't for me, and it's pretty damn hideous. Add some color and shade and you've got a spot kids will enjoy and that's all that matters I guess. This park means nothing to me and I didn't keep up with the construction at all, so why should my opinion mean anything to this park.

The paint makes it look much better. It’s amazing how just a touch of color can change perception. Glad they are reacting to criticism . Maybe they will add more “life” to Shrek’s jeep safari next

Figured I'd post this here as I don't believe there are any other photos or video of the added paint to Bello Bay Cruise. Shoutout to @Diservations , of course.

Maybe you should actually click on the tweet. The original poster says it was a joke post, as that area was painted during previews. They do mention that they have heard that more painting is planned.

Oops missed the posts that pointed it out. My bad.

'The Flight Crew' on Youtube has about the best on the ground look under the lens of a local young mom with a child, who is also familiar with Disney/Universal parks. She gave a very fair look at everything, explained her biggest critiques (lack of shade/AC, lack of indoor rides, things needing more paint/color, etc), and ultimately concluded that she'd go back but not in the heat of the summer.

She also mentioned that the surface of a ride vehicle or two were so hot to the point they were painful and TMs were spraying water on them to cool them down. That's shocking to me. Universal never though this through or tested out how hot the seats could get being out in the sun all day? We're not even at the hottest part of the year yet. She also commented on the over-reliance of spinning rides and how it limited what she'd do with her kid but I guess when you think of cheap flat rides, most are spinners of some type.

I also noticed an indoor theater that wasn't open yet (said "coming soon" on the marquee) and I don't recall seeing that pointed out much anywhere else. If they got any kind of short movie in there, that would be a nice indoor attraction for people to escape the heat too.

To be fair... I avoid all theme parks in the heat of summer on principle alone.

Ah, gotcha. Admittedly, I actually had tried to look further into it to find more photos of the paint, but I refuse to make a Twitter account and they make it ridiculously difficult to navigate the site without one, so I missed that specific comment / thread with the full context.

Here's hoping we actually do get some additional paint.

You can't expect people to avoid the park in the middle of the summer though. Shade, covered rides and indoor things seems pretty important and should be a focus, especially in the Texas heat.

Just arrived and apparently they’re only doing the opening ceremony for VIPs.
