I wonder what the cultural relevance of Dr. Seuss is these days (not implying they should replace it at all, just wondering)

Seussical Jr. is one of the most frequently produced shows in America (15th in 2025) and the Grinch is an omnipresent character during the holidays. In 2020, the Seuss estate made $33 million (the second most of any dead celebrity, behind Michael Jackson). And new book, “Sing the 50 States” - a recently discovered manuscript from the ACTUAL Theodor Geisel - is getting released this June. Seuss is still very relevant.

I don't expect you to have the answer so throwing this out there: Do parks that are owned by an IP holder have free access to other department's IPs? Does Disney have to pay some sort of fee for the use of movies properites to the studio, for example? Is it actually "free" to the parks?

This has been answered better already, but yes.

Universal the theme park actually had to get approval from Universal Pictures for all of the Universal Monsters haunts, for example.

There are several Suess movies planned over the next few years, including Cat in the Hat this fall. Hopefully that helps Suess Land remain relevant.

The Carey Grinch movie and the original animated TV show will probably keep Seuss Landing relevant for a long time. The other stuff is icing on the cake. Even our grandkids, who are not fans of the non Christmas books, love those films.

Don’t underestimate the Illumination Grinch, it was fantastic as well.

It was different, but it was decent. It gets a lot of play during the Holiday season, so kids get to see repeat performances.

Touching Toon Lagoon anytime in the near future* would be a solution in search of a problem, especially when USF still has problems in search of solutions, and a whole other land in IOA is about to be redeveloped.

Saw the video yesterday, he makes a compelling case.

Tl;dw Main Factors:
1) When Comcast renewed the deal in 2019, they owned the Jay Ward IPs, so there was potential corporate synergy with new projects. That's gone now.
2) Assuming LC work begins this year or next, should be done around 29-30. Right when the TL contracts are up. And it doesn't seem likely we'll see major overhauls to Potter, JP, Marvel, Kong or Seuss anytime soon. That basically means IoA would remain stagnant throughout the 2030s. Possible, but probably not desirable given you could give the Hogsmeade treatment to a new IP (maybe even two) in that space.

If it happens, I do hope the rides are just re-skinned. And maybe USO and EU need so much help they can afford to let IoA ride after LC's replacement. But I'm sure it's something corporate is looking at closely between now and 2029.

Yes, they can.

IOA is arguably one of the two best, most complete parks in Orlando right now, even before whatever happens with Lost Continent. USF... is not.

I agree. Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls is an embarrassment in its current state, but Popeye's Bilge Rat Barges is a world-class raft ride even with lacking show maintenance. Even so, the other parks need help so much more. We can deal with Dudley for another decade.

They should give Dudley a lengthy refurb once there's additional capacity back in the park.
