It shouldn't be surprising they were going all out for this. They were supposed to be up against a bunch of new attractions as part of the 50th celebration at Disney in 2021. They needed big guns for their shot to be heard and not lose market share. Competition is good for spurring growth and innovation. That's also why SeaWorld was going all out with the surf coaster a year after receiving Ice Breaker. Now Universal will have to come up with something for 2022 when the competition is ready with new capex again...

Don't forget this was also part of the strategy to keep people coming while EU was under construction as well.

Universal's treatment of their own IPs has been lacklustre for a while. F&F was the boot up the arse to get them to aim higher.

Up until a few months ago, Tron was the ride I was most looking forward to ever since seeing it in Shanghai. This is now number 1.

I still view this coaster as Big Thunder Mountain on steroids and here's how I imagine the two would go in a fight.

2020: MMRR, Bourne....meh.

2021: Ice Breaker, Rat, Iron Gwazi, Tron, GotG:CR, Velocicoaster!

It would be smart if all the parks could put together one ad for up north featuring all the new stuff in CentFL.

Wasn't there something called "Visit Florida" whose job was to do things like that? Gee would be nice if we had something like that

If I was Disney, I would open Rat in 2021, GotG in 2022 and Tron in 2023--something new each year to tide people over until tourism recovers.

Guardians I beleive would be 2023 there, and Tron 2022.

Velocicoaster just seems like it has SO much going on I hope it isn’t too overwhelming I literally can’t catch a breathe.

But at the same time I want that in a way so...

For me, Velocicoaster has already won as it is bringing life back to an arguably lifeless area of the park

It is also adding another must ride thrill coaster to IOA (which I am partial too)

Guardians will hopefully help transition Epcot and open some new doors

Tron is...fine..

But back to Velocicoaster, I love how the entrance is designed in a way to where they are breathing some life into an area that was basically a smoking section

I’m like trying to not be hyperbolic (not unlike me) but I might be more excited for this one than Hagrid’s. Hagrid’s is a blast and this seems like an utter blast like 30-40 (?) mph faster and far more thrilling.

Hagrid will always make me smile, and it's also proof of concept that Universal can still do a ride with no screens

But a crazy launched Intamin with tight inversions and some air time has me giddy

Side note: I hope the raptor statues are actually noticeable and don't just blend in with the rockwork/backround haha

I think on a thrill ride like this having the rumored 1 or 2 show scenes are total cherries on top things that put it in a league just above everyone else, no screens here either I’d bet. It’ll be interesting, I think there could be a legit debate to be had but we gotta see how it rides first

I think you have it a bit off and TRON will be 2021 and GotG may be 2022. Tron only really has the canopy to go up and the ride is mostly done.

Velocicoaster will easily be better than both of these. Definitely better than Tron and GotG sounds like RNRC too much for me to even get that excited.
